  1. I'm just your average barstool fan . No expert by any means . I admit that I know nothing about these two jabronis we got for Mitch . Never heard of them . I do know that Moreland had some great moments with the Sox . Wish him well .
  2. Spin number one . When you don't like the present , talk about the past . But it doesn't change today's bottom line .
  3. 22 short ( long ? ) months ago , the Sox dominated the Dodgers to win the World Series , only one untimely error preventing a sweep . Today , the Dodgers have the best record in baseball . The Sox have the second worst . You can provide all the spin and all the excuses you can think of , but that is the all important bottom line .
  4. You can see it on e-bay all the time . If people really want something , they are willing to pay more than it is realistically worth . Sometimes money is no object. And MLB owners certainly have plenty of it . Sometimes they will end up rueing it , sometimes they won't. But it will happen again.
  5. Latest rumor is that the Astros have interest in Matt Barnes.
  6. The more good players you get rid of , the bigger the rebuild job becomes. And the longer it will take .
  7. Pitchers continue to drop like flies in this strangest of seasons . Disproves the idea that spring training is overrated.
  8. No stat or system is perfect. ERA in a small sample size is not reliable . But for a career stat , ERA will give you a very good idea of a pitcher's effectiveness.
  9. Roenicke is getting the same instructions, I mean " suggestions " from the pencil neck geeks in the front office that Cora got . But he just doesn't have the horses to get it done . And the barn gets emptier all the time .
  10. When the Sox are like this it takes much of the excitement out of the season. The Rays have a good team and a certain " underdog " appeal . In the N.L. , I always root for the Cubs . I see them as the N.L. version of the Sox , right down to the finally broken "curse " .
  11. When a trade happens , folks will give their opinion as to whether it was a good or bad deal . The funny thing is , no matter whether it works out well or not , they won't change that opinion. They will insist they were right all along . Human nature .
  12. The Yankees were disturbed about all of the injuries they had last year , so they brought in a new training and conditioning crew this year . That is working out really well .
  13. Welcome back , Kimmi.
  14. Wake up Ron. Wake up Chaim. We lose again .
  15. It seems like eons ago since the Sox whipped the Dodgers in the World Series, coming within a hair of sweeping them . Actually, it has only been 22 months. We had , arguably , the best Red Sox team ever assembled. Certainly one of the best at the very least . The team that slinked out of the Bronx last night looked like a bedraggled, dispirited group of losers .
  16. Dear John H , Where are you ?
  17. When Bloom was questioned about the state of the Red Sox ; he said ( and I quote ) " There is a lot of work to do ." Brilliant analysis by the " Magic Man " . But Jimmy Schmidlap , down at the pub , could have told you that for a lot less money .
  18. I am not taking questions or assignments today . I have expressed what I think many times already. What did the Dodger's GM say to the owner ?
  19. Trading away your best player and signaling that you are pretty much giving up on the season can have a demoralizing effect on the team . In addition to the shortage of talent, there looks to be a general malaise on this ballclub.
  20. Unfortunately for a lot of players , by the time they reach free agency, their best years are behind them .
  21. Obviously, fan interest is important. More important than anything else . After all , MLB is a part of the entertainment industry. Nothing generates more fan interest than an outstanding, championship caliber team . And that costs money.
  22. Well , you are the advocate for signing a bunch of jabronis to minor league contracts , hoping it works out . This is how it works out .
  23. It's not that complicated. The teams with the best players are more successful. The best players make more money . The teams that spend more money have a better shot at pennants and championships. I know we all love the occasional small market , small time Cinderella success story , but there is still a harsh reality to face . And I don't think there is a single owner who cannot afford to spend more .
  24. Method 3 would be best , in an ideal world. But it is tough to do . Acquiring top talent often requires parting with prospects. And continued success results in worse draft picks .
  25. Throughout MLB, pitchers are dropping like flies. More hitting the I.L. every day . Insufficient preparation.
