We have had this discussion before . But to me , UZR is not science , it is just some anonymous guy watching the games and giving his opinion . Which , allegedly , is better than ours. I just don't put much stock in it .
Baseball is a funny game . Calvin gave up three straight two out singles . Any one of them could have been hit a little harder and been caught . His whole legacy would be different. Sometimes you can catch a break , sometimes you can't.
I think the best way to make sure centerfield is taken care of is to re-sign JBJ . But I'm not sure he wants to come back. From what I can see , his defense has not regressed all that much. I do think people put too much faith in some of these advanced metrics.
Roenicke's firing seemed inevitable . He was in a tough situation and , quite frankly , did not impress . I would say that Cora is the morning line favorite to get his old job back.
Okay . To me , the thing is ; on any tough play , the scorer has the discretion whether to charge an error. But on a double play attempt, it is automatic that you can't assume it will be made . End of story.
Off topic , but here is a question for the official scorers. Why can't you " assume the double play " ? The outs are made separately. Once the first out is recorded, you should be able to assume that , if correctly played , the second out should be made as well.
In an abbreviated, crazy season like this one , the stats are going to be skewed , both pro and con . They may or may not be an indication of anything.
That is is little disingenuous. In addition to what we have on the field today , D.D. also left Mookie , Price , Workman , Porcello , Moreland , a healthy E-Rod and a healthy Benintendi.
To me , that is too many teams . Anyway, I think the Dodgers will be awfully tough to beat . The Yankees don't look like the powerhouse they seemed to be not too long ago . Personally, I am glad and surprised that the season made it this far. I will be pulling for the Cubbies.
If you can get a good one cheap , that is wonderful. That also applies to every other position in baseball . As well as many things in life . But , like closing , it's not easy to do.
It's not just who he traded , but who he kept. He kept Devers , who has turned out to be better than any of those traded . ( Maybe the jury is still out on Moncada )
The Sox are a much , much , much better team than the Orioles . It is kind of crazy that we are battling them to escape the cellar . But the whole season has been crazy in general.
