  1. He has an MLB career record of 3-7 , with an ERA of 6.50 . That's not too good.
  2. It was a three team deal. I think Cleveland got six or seven players for Bauer . Logan Allen stinks. And he has for the whole five and a half years . You thought he was going to be good . But he wasn't . Dombrowski knew . It's okay .
  3. Relief pitching should be on everyone's radar. So many games come down to a battle of the bullpens these days.
  4. MLB has what is shaping up to be several really good divisional pennant races. But what is the big story? " Sticky stuff." I guess that is how to best promote the game and bring out the fans ?
  5. Based on what we got for them, of course. What do you suppose they are worth today?
  6. The general feeling is that many , if not most , pitchers were using something. Let's not all pile on Richards.
  7. Baseball Musings Lineup Tool ? Ooofah!! The end is near.
  8. Absolutely give Cordero another shot. There is no good reason not to.
  9. The results indicate that it was a good deal for the Sox. We won the A.L. East in 2016 , 2017 and 2018. You may debate just how important the acquisition of Kimbrel was to that success , but the fact is that it has not happened before or since. Meanwhile, Margot has established himself as a decent MLB player , but the other three have shown next to nothing. Their stock and trade value was maximized in this deal . It would not have grown any by keeping them. And their departure did very little to decimate the farm. I understand why some did not like this trade when it happened , but given how it turned out, I cannot understand how you can still question it.
  10. It is way too soon to be scoreboard watching .
  11. It's the way of the world. So many people trying to bend the rules a bit to get an edge. How many totally honest people are there ? What we are seeing in MLB now however is a travesty, an embarrassment to the game. Yesterday you had umpires running their fingers through Max Scherzers' hair . You had Sergio Romo dropping his pants for an inspection. I really don't blame the umps. They are being forced to make themselves look like idiots ( not that some of them need to be forced ) by the idiot commissioner. It's really ridiculous. How is any of this crap helping the sport ? Make a baseball that is easier to grip. Is that really so hard to do?
  12. To me , the most obvious, the most glaring difference between this year's team and last year's team is the manager. I think the lion's share of the credit should go to Alex Cora.
  13. Watched the umps patting down DeGrom before the Met's game yesterday. I only hope they felt as stupid as they looked. An absolute travesty . Even DeGrom had to laugh .
  14. You were , and are , absolutely wrong about this . It was far from an overpay ; in fact it was a great deal for the Sox. We got three All Star seasons from one of the all time great closers in return for an average outfielder and table scraps. Definitely not an overpay. You really should give Dombrowski credit on this one.
  15. Of all the Sox prospects, I get the sense that Duran could be something special. Maybe superstar potential. I would not hesitate to bring him up.
  16. By the way , how is future Hall of Famer Logan Allen doing these days ? What a massive " overpay " by Dombrowski back in 2016.
  17. They have one for pitchers now called , " Game score. " There is no end in sight.
  18. As long as hitters swing for the fences , even with two strikes, there will be lots of strikeouts. Spin rates notwithstanding, the basics of hitting are to meet the ball ( don't try to kill it) , shorten up with two strikes and use the whole field. But the home run rules right now.
  19. On base and slugging percentages are two stats that have been around for a while. I have no idea whose idea it was to add them together to create OPS. Why would you do that ? The problem is that it gives exactly equal weight to both stats, not to mention the redundancy involved. Another problem with it is that it gives no credit at all to stolen bases.I will agree that it is useful for a quick look at a player's offensive production. But in many cases , a hit is preferable to a walk. And a double is preferable to a single and so forth.
  20. The owners created the luxury tax to serve as a de facto salary cap. I wouldn't say it bothers them. They use it as a tool to keep the payroll down and maximize profits. I'm not necessarily condemning them for that , just saying it as a fact.
  21. The Royals were pretending to actually be a good team for a while there. But that is over now. They are not a good team at all. This should be relatively easy.
  22. This spin rate thing is relatively new. A product of the analytics craze. I am pretty sure that most of the great pitchers of the past used something to enhance their grip. As do the batters. MLB needs to stop meddling with things.
  23. MLB could write the book: " How to alienate your employees, your supporters and the general public ".
  24. Now we are going to keep seeing this predictable reaction : Every time a pitcher gets hit hard , we will hear " He must have been using something before ."
  25. I think Glasnow may have a point. And I think a lot of pitchers would agree with him. Apparently, many , if not most pitchers, use some combination of rosin and sunscreen to help their grip. ( I don't know about that spider tack stuff). MLB is now telling them to make the change in mid season. It should have been done in spring training or else wait until next year. To say that it has always been the rule is a bit disingenuous. It was rarely enforced before this . The commissioner is just causing confusion and controversy with this seemingly panic - like move. If more pitchers start getting hurt , or batters get hit with pitches , things will get worse. A little common sense is needed here , but that seems to be in short supply.
