  1. The bottom line is still winning. Bloom has got to win something to get recognition. So far in his career, he hasn't. We can make all the excuses we want, but he still needs to win it all at least once. Otherwise, all the other stuff doesn't much matter. Here's hoping he can do it.
  2. Here is the thing. We won the A.L. East an unprecedented three straight years . When has that ever happened ? But Dombrowski was a bum because some kid started a website and gave his " official rankings " of the MLB farm systems. Maybe this kid thought Anderson Espinosa really was the next Pedro and Logan Allen was the next John Lester , etc. Dombrowski thought otherwise . Who was right? Did " Bleacher Boy " know more about our farm system than Dombrowski and his staff ? And Bloom inherited our five 2021 All Stars , the core of this club. He inherited Chris Sale . He inherited an outfield that was considered one of the finest in the game , and a player who was considered second only to Trout. He inherited prospects like Duran , Houck , Casas , Dalbec and more. The cupboard was not bare . Far from it. That is the reality .
  3. The prospects that Dombrowski traded were simply not very good. Why do we keep insisting that they were? He left Bloom plenty of talent.
  4. Actually, my point was that Dombrowski and Theo both left talented rosters to their successors. The problem came when the ultra wealthy owners decided to rein in the spending. It was much worse with the Cubs because Hoyer totally dismantled the team . But it was not Theo's fault. And what happened with the Sox was not as bad , and it was not Dombrowski's fault either.
  5. I was talking about what Theo left Hoyer in Chicago. I thought that was perfectly clear.
  6. For some unfathomable reason , we are eagerly anticipating the return of Ryan Brasier. I guess your average ham and egger is better than some of the jabronis we have been watching.
  7. What is the difference? You make a statement like that and throw in a sarcastic " nice try." Please explain the difference.
  8. Theo is generally revered by Sox fans. And for good reason. He also ended the Cubs curse. But did he destroy them financially and decimate their farm? Did he leave poor Jed Hoyer such a shambles that Hoyer had to literally tear down the roster completely in order to keep the poor Ricketts family off the Chicago welfare rolls? No, he didn't. And neither did Dombrowski. The problem is that many of the billionaire owners got together and decided to cut the payroll. And they use the Luxury Tax , that they created, as an excuse. It is surprising that so many ticket purchasing, concession stand visiting, merchandise buying , baseball package subscribing fans don't see this .
  9. Have to sweep this series. Nothing else is okay. Baltimore is not just a bad team. They are truly atrocious.
  10. Very little rehab for Schwarber. Desperate times , etc.
  11. Winning the Division three straight years seems like sustainable success. It doesn't happen too often. How long are we supposed to look into the future? How long a leash does any G.M. have? Five year plans can fail too . And there is nothing to enjoy in the meantime.
  12. The Giants have been perhaps the biggest surprise of the year.
  13. Has there been a John Henry sighting lately? is he in Boston? Is he in the country?
  14. That's not insignificant. Trea Turner is a very good ballplayer.
  15. They are in the same division as the Astros. How could they not have faced them?
  16. You were also so happy with Downs and Wong. A last place team gets a top draft pick. Mayer still has to show something. A couple of anonymous PTBNLs. This " rebuilding the farm" thing is dubious. You keep giving Bloom credit for things that he has not yet accomplished.
  17. Dombrowski left the team a mess? Bloom turned things around quickly ? The players most responsible for this year's success were J.D. , Bogaerts , Devers . Eovaldi and Barnes . Our five All Stars . The guy we are looking to come back and save the day is Sale. The young guys we are hoping will help now and in the future are Houck , Duran , Dalbec and Casas. None of the aforementioned are Bloom guys. He did make a couple of pretty nice additions , but he also got rid of an outfield that was considered one of the best. Bloom did not turn things around. Bloom did not inherit a mess. Bloom inherited a lot of talent.
  18. The Field of Dreams looks like a hitter's dream and a pitcher's nightmare.
  19. Theo wannabe , Jed Hoyer , announced today that the Cubs have traded the Ivy from the outfield wall for a 12 year old shortstop prospect from Aruba. The kids Grandma says he is the next Xander Bogaerts. Sounds like a good deal.
  20. The only fair way to evaluate a catcher is xCERA+ , while adding in the WHIP, FIP , ZIP , ZIPplus4 , DIP and BLIP. .
  21. Cash does a fine job of utilizing them, but the Rays bullpen and pitching in general is like the proverbial old gray mare. Not what it used to be.
  22. Tonight it's " Build it and they will come." With the Yankees it's " Build it and they will get injured."
  23. Busted. You can't get away with anything any more. Everything is recorded or filmed.
  24. I fully understand the reluctance to spend a buck to bolster this roster for the stretch run. After all , this is only a 3.5 billion dollar empire.
  25. For want of a nail, a shoe was lost , etc. You might wind up losing the battle, but look at the money you saved on the nail.
