  1. The good thing about vast and ever growing alphabet soup of stats , both real and manufactured , that we have today is that you can usually rummage through them and find one that backs up your opinion.
  2. Very good , exciting ball game. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. Sometimes it does . Just win tonight. Tomorrow looks very good with the Yankees pitching ham and egger Heaney. Easier schedule coming . Keep the faith.
  3. Our lead on the Yankees is entirely due to the head to head record. They have actually been slightly better against everyone else.
  4. Two of the biggest games of year tomorrow. And they are going to be seven inning games. Thanks Manfred , you clod.
  5. It's questionable if most post season stats are a large enough sample to form any conclusions.
  6. In another example of just how stupid and tone deaf MLB and ESPN are , they rescheduled the Dodgers vs Mets day game in New York to the Sunday night game of the week tonight. This despite the fact that both teams are playing on the west coast tomorrow night. I guess they figured that this would be the game that got the highest ratings. What a way to alienate the players involved . What a way to show how greedy and dumb you can be. It served them right that the game turned out to be a blowout that people no doubt turned off early on.
  7. I do know the rule. They did make it seem that the deadline was it, though. No waiver trades. This is just a way of getting around it by not including some obscure player to be named later. I used the term loophole loosely.
  8. One thing for sure: It's more fun to believe in clutch than it is to read the Bill James baseball handbook. And baseball is supposed to be fun.
  9. I think the Jays have too many shortcomings to do it. They have talent , but they look like a team that is not quite ready just yet.
  10. The Yankees have certainly played a lot of high drama games this year. With mixed results.
  11. I am surprised Barnes was used today. He could have used a couple more days off. Not just Barnes , but I think a lot of guys in MLB are showing some fatigue at this point. For a closer , even a slight drop in velocity or sharpness can make a big difference. There was no need to use Matt today.
  12. Obviously , there are loopholes in the trade deadline rule. As for Shaw , why not ? Nothing to lose and he might help.
  13. A lot of the ups and downs of a season are schedule related. The Sox presently are in a soft spot in the schedule .
  14. I would be very surprised if J.D. opted out. The smart move is to go with the security instead of rolling the dice on what figures to be an iffy free agent market. A bird in the hand, etc.
  15. Anyways , happy days are here again. Even the naysayers are somewhat satisfied. And all it took was three games against the woefully inept Orioles . Now it's all seashells and balloons .
  16. At some point , John Henry , as well as many other owners , decided that salaries were getting out of hand and it was time to start reining in the payroll a bit. Henry , himself, said as much. The Sox still have a relatively high payroll compared to some others , but they are clearly being more budget conscious. None of this is Dombrowski's fault. He did what he needed to do . If what we have seen the last couple of years was the dreaded "cliff" , then it was a small price to pay for the good times in 2016,2017 and 2018.
  17. What I am saying is that he got rid of mostly trash. What you and Kimmi are saying is , " Yeah, but he got rid of too much trash." The prospects he traded were easily replaced and long forgotten. It didn't hurt our future one iota.
  18. Top 3 to bottom 3 according to who's official rankings? If the bunch of nobodies that D.D. traded caused that shift , then the ratings are meaningless. More importantly, the Red Sox ( the parent club) went from last place to first . And that's a fact , not the opinion of some dork with a website.
  19. I know I'm a dinosaur and have been around too long, but I do like to form my own opinions. I do not swear by some geek website giving their " official rankings" of MLB farm systems or telling me the trade value of players , etc. ,etc., etc. Unfortunately , that seems to be the trend. I think it is a turn off to a lot of fans, but it looks like it is becoming more prevalent all the time. We can try to ignore it and enjoy the games , but that is getting increasingly hard to do. It's just too bad.
  20. If you thought the O's scraped the bottom of the barrel with Gomez today, think again. Sunday's starter, Akin , is 0-6 with an ERA of 8.23 . Baltimore is exploring new frontiers of incompetence.
  21. Long list of names, but not a very impressive one other than Moncada and Kopech. And we got Sale for them. Overall , what we got back for them was more than they really were worth. And those kind of prospects are easily replaced. And indeed , they have been replaced.
  22. This is a fact of baseball life. The better teams are the teams with the higher payrolls. The lousy teams are the teams with the low payrolls. Obviously , there are and always will be a couple of exceptions to this. But it is generally true. And the owners are all extremely wealthy people. And some of them are more willing to spend money on the team than others.
  23. Nobody is calling him a bum in so many words. But a few are always taking shots at him . To me , he was very successful . And I do hope Bloom can be successful as well.
  24. What extremes? The 2018 team was a juggernaut . But anything might just as easily not work out. In 2004 , Dave Roberts could have been picked off first base. And history would have changed. You roll the dice and you take your chances. And flags fly forever.
  25. As a Sox fan , I'm looking forward to watching Chris Sale pitch again today. And watching the Red Sox pummel the O's. But as a baseball fan , I don't have much interest in watching it. It is a shame and embarrassment to the game to see a once proud franchise like Baltimore put such a shoddy product on display. Outside of a couple of guys , this is not a major league team. Please Baltimore , either spend some money or sell the team to someone who cares.
