  1. " Realistically " the Sox have dug quite a hole for themselves. The first goal now should be to get back to .500. But can they do that ? The offense certainly will improve. They cannot possibly be as bad as they have looked. But when they do take a lead late into the game , they have to close it out. They cannot keep blowing those kind of games.
  2. You certainly can have as much or as little respect for a player as you want. But they have every right to try and maximize their earnings. It is not fair to hold that against them.
  3. The Amazing Randi explained that there is no such a thing as "magic. "However, there is such a thing as " tricks."
  4. Houck has gone from " can't face a lineup three times " to " can't face more than three hitters ."
  5. Do you see any " hot commodities " in the Sox bullpen? The Dodgers might be interested in Xander . Turner could play second. And the Dodgers don't seem to mind spending a buck or two. I don't think Xander would object to that deal either.
  6. That could be a new thread. How many words can you find in coaches names?
  7. Folks would probably cut Fatse a little more slack if he had a better name.
  8. Some fans deny the existence of things like momentum. The Sox right now are in losing mode. Reverse momentum , if you will. They will find a way to lose. Almost like they expect to lose. They need a big breakout game , a walk off win or something like that to change the losing atmosphere. I do believe that they can start a winning streak if that happens. They have some weak areas , but they are not nearly as bad as they have looked. At any rate , don't give up the ship at this early stage.
  9. Somebody has to be the fall guy for this mess. Might as well be Fatse.
  10. It actually boggles the mind how willing some fans are to let Bogaerts and Devers get away.
  11. The thinking of the analytics crowd is that you don't spend money on a closer , or the bullpen in general. We have heard it expressed here many times. No matter what happens, they stay with that. I don't think Cora agrees with it , but he has no choice except to try and make the best of it. The problem is that you don't get a Liam Hendricks with Hansel Robles money.
  12. . That might not be a bad idea.
  13. I have always pulled for the Cubs in the N.L. I have never been to Chicago , but have watched them on T.V. many , many times. It seems like a great atmosphere at Wrigley, with the singing , banners and such. Happy, loyal fans having fun. It's a shame what the owner did to them at the deadline last year. It's going to take a while to rebuild.
  14. To watch the #RedSox game on Apple TV+ tonight: * Launch the Apple TV app and select the game. * Or go to https://tv.apple.com and log in with your Apple ID. If you don't have one, you can create one. It's free.
  15. Are they going to get this game in tonight ?
  16. For some reason, folks seem to get hung up on the terms "saves " and "blown saves". The object is simply to win the game. A " save" is good because it means you did win. A " blown save" is not good because it lowers your chances of winning. Simple as that. But no matter what you want to call it or how you slice it , the Sox bullpen so far this season has been a hot mess. There is no denying that.
  17. Always possible to find an exception to the rule. You do that well. Doesn't change the idea that this is not a good way to run a ballclub.
  18. Not silly at all. When the bullpen is handed a lead late in the game , it is their job to hold it. A " blown save" just indicates that they did not do that.
  19. One thing that has gone unnoticed: The Angels are a pretty good team. A lot of talent there.
  20. I would put it mostly on Bloom . He put the roster together. Cora has to try and make it work.
  21. Houck has good stuff , but that doesn't necessarily mean he can be an effective closer. His shortcomings were in evidence today. They can try him there and hope for the best. Personally , I would give the job to Robles at this point. But this is not how you run a team that hopes to compete for a title.
  22. We really shouldn't be having closer tryouts at this point . That is a lack of planning. Not a good way to operate.
  23. Last night , I think Cora should have stuck with Robles. If you want the guy to be the closer , you have to have faith that he can get it done. You can't yank him every time he gets in a jam. It's not as if Diekman is Josh Hader or Billy Wagner. And it's pretty clear that Whitlock is going to be a starter. I don't know what the plan is for Houck.
  24. The lion was real , according to the book " The Gang that couldn't shoot straight."
