  1. Whoever we pick up, the general response seems to be negative on the site. I prefer to wait and see. They picked him up for a reason and they are reasonable baseball people. It could be a shot in the dark, it could be depth. I don't know and doubt if others here do either.
  2. Also Verdugo who is a real player.
  3. My view is Bloom has the Sox on an upward trend and is following the plan exactly the way he said. The pitching staff has some intriguing pieces and we have some younger players in the wings who could represent a big improvement going forward. I expect 2021 to be a growth year and 2022 to be a year where we will have additional resources available to fill our holes. Let's hope our draft coupled with Bloom's effort to improve our minor league program will start to feed into the team's success.
  4. We are in the area but probably won't go under the circumstances. Day games are too hot anyway.
  5. Everyone has an opinion!
  6. I don't see it either and can't see signing a has been or never was just to say we have a CF. Pillar was a possibility but he is gone. We will and should fill CF from within in 2021. We have Verdugo, we could switch our new acquisition or could bring up Duran. That would keep us below the CBT threshold and open the door for rethinking for 2022 when there will be additional resources. Hope your cold weather snap will break soon. We lived in upstate NY for years and even experienced major ice storms and sewer drains freezing when buried 4 feet. That took a week of 20 below but it happened.
  7. Still most likely Sawamura will sign with the club and that will be the last move before spring training. I really doubt there is a serious chance of getting JBJ back due to his desire for a 4 year contract.
  8. Duran may well be in the plan as the Sox CF of the future. Why invest in a has been or never was instead of giving Duran the chance now.
  9. We used the $3 mil from the Beni deal to pick up another leftfielder and backup for Dalbec at 1st base. It is a bridge deal but makes sense to me.
  10. Maybe they bring up Duran and/or move E/Hern to CF. Bloom isn't trying to be popular with these moves but instead is trying to build an organization that can compete year by year. Climbing the cliff left by DD, the Sox need to build the farm while improving the winning percent. I was for the Beni move and the Sawamura move (has it become official?)
  11. I believe the Sox felt that Beni was becoming an average defensive outfielder with a declining hit tool and meager power. They are moving forward and got what they could. There is a risk that they have this wrong, but if they were right, the move was necessary. JBJ is also probably gone, especially if he is looking for 4 years. The Sox may well believe they need to rebuild the outfield and have candidates in house. I don't think the Sox are being cheap but are being smart and building for the future.
  12. There are still rumors floating around about a Japanese pitcher who might be suitable as a closer and it looks like we are seriously in the running. the person is Hirokazu Sawamura who is 32 but could represent an improvement in our BP. I have been high on Jarren Duran for some time and wouldn't be surprised if he is on the team right out of Spring Training. He might well be as good or better than any alternative with the exception of JBJ. I don't think JBJ is going to be with the Sox this year.
  13. They were probably stealing signs along the highway.
  14. It's also possible they will pan out and even be better than average. They may well be better than what we could bring in for the few Mil we have left to spend.
  15. Other than Houck and Dalbec, you don't have any prospects listed. I believe Bloom is considering at least a few as joining the team this year and becoming part of our roster for 2022. If he is thinking that way, it likely would effect how many moves he wants to make before ST. I have been high on Duran for some time and Downs will probably be on the roster before the year is out along with Mata. Why bring in players to block them now?
  16. Really, if we don't make the playoffs but win a few more games by going over the CBT first level, is it worth it. I would say no. Leave the spending until we are positioned to make a run.
  17. I hope so too but seriously doubt it.
  18. You could be right about that. Maybe the plan is to play this year and begin to integrate players from the minors as a way to rebuilt the team for 2022. We have Downs, Casas and Duran in the wings and any number of pitchers. If we then can bring in a few top FA's, 2022 could be a year we are back in contention.
  19. I'm in the camp that believes that contract demands of 10 years at $300 mil is already very high when considering the risk of injury or a downturn in performance. Going 12 years for $365 is even a higher risk. Based on the CBT, that kind of contract hampers putting the rest of a competitive roster on the field. What the Dodgers did will have to be looked at after the contract continues for a few years. Mookie helped them win a WS but he did that along with other outstanding players. There is no way the Sox were going anywhere last season with him. Better to get value and start to rebuild the farm and the team.
  20. With a million a day being vaccinated, that's roughly 30 million more people vaccinated per month. By April 1 there could be 70 million and a delay to May would see 100 million unless the vaccination rate rate picks up, which is likely. Not enough for herd immunity but with precautions, a significant number, particularly those of us who are older. My wife and I were finally able to get our first this morning so there is light at the end of this pandemic tunnel.
  21. I don't see us having a legitimate chance of going deep into the playoffs even if we are so fortunate to make them by winning 87 to 89 games. Under that assumption, I would definitely want to stay below the CBT and even leave some financial flexibility for a mid season move. Adding a single player won't change our chances to give us a significantly better chance. I believe Bloom expects to bring Downs up during the season so doesn't want to invest in second base, except for a place holder.
  22. Maybe LA can trade him and pay part of his existing contract to clear some financial space. I don't want him back but maybe someone would risk it at $10 million a year. Or they could throw in a prospect and take part of his contract. We are still stuck for $16 mil for 2.
  23. I seldom like your suggested trades and would rather wait for Bloom to make moves. I don't want to lose Vaz and he doesn't want to go. I also want to keep our top outfield prospect. If we could get value for Beni or Chavis then that is worth considering. Value can come in $ savings, prospects or a filling of needs such as relief pitching or CF.
  24. So when does the 40 man roster have to be adjusted for the new acquisitions?
