  1. I didn't think of Cordero there, but I suppose he is an option.
  2. The whole premise of this string has now been blown up, with most of those mentioned signing with other clubs. It appears now to come down to a choice between Kike, Verdugo and Duran. I think it will come from those already in the system, as taking a so-so player from outside to fill the void when we have better internally makes no sense to me.
  3. Cora wants to put speedy players in the first couple of spots so the thumpers can bring them in. Kike is one of those. I suppose Verdugo would also fit. Got to be a decent hitter to be batting up front as it doesn't help to be fast if your OBP is low.
  4. I think we expected it to be too much and this is even more than we expected. Good for JBJ, he deserved it, but beyond what the Sox should pay.
  5. You don't have to defend yourself. The course of action we took was bound to lead to a turn down, by whatever name. It was heightened by the loss of Sale and E-Rod and the diminished farm system. Now we are on the road to recovery with an opening of the purse strings in order for the 2022 season.
  6. I watched today's game and noticed Devers does look like he is in much better shape, which is good news for the club. The way they did the show it was hard to tell who was pitching and who was playing what position and who was at bat. The managers seem to say Spring Training is aimed at getting the regulars ready to play and the pitchers a few innings. Generally, the others are playing for an opportunity to impress enough to get a roster spot.
  7. Duran is 24 years old and a terrific athlete. Time to give him an opportunity. I agree that the team doesn't look fully competitive at the highest level so experimenting with Duran will not tank our season. If he can't cut it, we will find out, but give him time enough to show what he can do. The possible upside outweighs the other arguments in my view.
  8. I doubt we sign JBJ strictly based on the cost. JBJ would be a nice asset but I don't see the Sox taking on a multi-year commitment while rebuilding.
  9. I've been hoping Duran will pan out better than some defense only CF in his declining years. We shall soon see whether he becomes the regular CF coming out of ST.
  10. The team will get a look at talent bubbling up from the minors and better know what the real needs of the team will be. They will have some resources to use and can make good decisions and spend the money wisely. Lets hope that we don't lay out huge money on long term contracts for marginal players. Some questions that should be answered during this season: 1. Will JDM return to form or will he show himself to be losing capability? 2. Will Dever's defense at 3rd show he belongs there? 3. Will Dalbec demonstrate he is capable of hitting in the majors? 3. Will Downs and/or Duran become solid pieces of the team? 4. Wii Houck and or Pivetta become useful starters? 5. How far away is Casas from the majors? Insight on these and other questions should be gained during the 2021 season and allow for targeting our resources in the offseason.
  11. I would take A as a better starting lineup and maybe platoon Gonsales at 1st if Dalbec shows weakness. That makes 2nd base iffy but Arroyo is still worth a shot. Verdugo has shown he can handle leadoff.
  12. Whoever we pick up, the general response seems to be negative on the site. I prefer to wait and see. They picked him up for a reason and they are reasonable baseball people. It could be a shot in the dark, it could be depth. I don't know and doubt if others here do either.
  13. Also Verdugo who is a real player.
  14. My view is Bloom has the Sox on an upward trend and is following the plan exactly the way he said. The pitching staff has some intriguing pieces and we have some younger players in the wings who could represent a big improvement going forward. I expect 2021 to be a growth year and 2022 to be a year where we will have additional resources available to fill our holes. Let's hope our draft coupled with Bloom's effort to improve our minor league program will start to feed into the team's success.
  15. We are in the area but probably won't go under the circumstances. Day games are too hot anyway.
  16. Everyone has an opinion!
  17. I don't see it either and can't see signing a has been or never was just to say we have a CF. Pillar was a possibility but he is gone. We will and should fill CF from within in 2021. We have Verdugo, we could switch our new acquisition or could bring up Duran. That would keep us below the CBT threshold and open the door for rethinking for 2022 when there will be additional resources. Hope your cold weather snap will break soon. We lived in upstate NY for years and even experienced major ice storms and sewer drains freezing when buried 4 feet. That took a week of 20 below but it happened.
  18. Still most likely Sawamura will sign with the club and that will be the last move before spring training. I really doubt there is a serious chance of getting JBJ back due to his desire for a 4 year contract.
  19. Duran may well be in the plan as the Sox CF of the future. Why invest in a has been or never was instead of giving Duran the chance now.
  20. We used the $3 mil from the Beni deal to pick up another leftfielder and backup for Dalbec at 1st base. It is a bridge deal but makes sense to me.
  21. Maybe they bring up Duran and/or move E/Hern to CF. Bloom isn't trying to be popular with these moves but instead is trying to build an organization that can compete year by year. Climbing the cliff left by DD, the Sox need to build the farm while improving the winning percent. I was for the Beni move and the Sawamura move (has it become official?)
  22. I believe the Sox felt that Beni was becoming an average defensive outfielder with a declining hit tool and meager power. They are moving forward and got what they could. There is a risk that they have this wrong, but if they were right, the move was necessary. JBJ is also probably gone, especially if he is looking for 4 years. The Sox may well believe they need to rebuild the outfield and have candidates in house. I don't think the Sox are being cheap but are being smart and building for the future.
  23. There are still rumors floating around about a Japanese pitcher who might be suitable as a closer and it looks like we are seriously in the running. the person is Hirokazu Sawamura who is 32 but could represent an improvement in our BP. I have been high on Jarren Duran for some time and wouldn't be surprised if he is on the team right out of Spring Training. He might well be as good or better than any alternative with the exception of JBJ. I don't think JBJ is going to be with the Sox this year.
