  1. The walk drawn by Devers and the single by Vaz for 2 RBI are big for the team. We don't need a lot of that but they have to keep producing something and consistently. Leon has done more of late and Devers runs into one now and then. The top of the order is killer. Mookie with 3 hits, Benni with 4 consecutive walks, JBJ with hits and RBI, Moreland got his fly ball for an RBI (good hitting), their afraid of Bogie so walked him, Holt at least hit the ball. Then it was up to the bottom of the order and they came through. Now for solid relief pitching.
  2. That's 18 errors for Devers in just over 1/2 the season. Kid hasn't learned to make the throw. He does look more competent fielding these days.
  3. Hate to see relief pitchers come in and create their own issues by issuing walks.
  4. He is our pitcher and will be for a long while unless he is injured. He takes more than 10% of our total payroll and we need him to get his act together. No one else will take him so he is here for the duration of his contract. Whatever is troubling him at this point needs to be resolved, even if he needs to miss a turn or two.
  5. Bottom of the order is 0 for 9 now with 4 strikeouts. When we get something from them it makes us hard to beat. With only 4 contributing, we have more of a struggle.
  6. Maybe he lost his feel on the ball. If so he should have said so. I would have pulled him after the second hit batsman but now they have to. Keep this to one run please.
  7. Tough when the team gave him the lead and he comes back out like this. Anyone can give up a hit but two hit batsmen in a row is hard to fathom. Now he is in a terrible predicament. He should be pulled but won't be.
  8. Not such a good AB for him. Took two fastballs on the plate, fouled some off and chased a slider. Hate to see a young hitter putting himself into a pitchers count like that. Maybe the bench gave him the first take sign, but I doubt they gave him 2 takes. This game can be tough on young hitters.
  9. Misleading though as this kid they have pitching has had two very good outings and has an ERA of around 2.0. Can say that about Price.
  10. I really think his way of doing Yankee home runs is embarrassing. Sounds like something a child would do.
  11. Haven't heard anymore about Pedroia. That is one area to keep our eye on. Holt aand Nunez have to fill in there every game and are also the backup and third and short. Maybe Phillips is coming along but have heard nothing about him. Could be we won't ever see a fully healthy and performing Pedroia again.
  12. I agree totally with that approach. I expect his cost next year will be above $8 mil and we should definitely look to see if we can do better. No sense in doing it unless there is a player that we think surpasses JBJ and is of equal or less money. I don't see anyone in our minors that is ready to take the role.
  13. Do you think he would handle the inside pitch better?
  14. We need to givee him pointers on how to pitch?
  15. Is he getting the run support he needs tonight?
  16. The yankees are in the market for Happ. Gray is reason enough for that. Glad we didn't go after Gray.
  17. My dad, bless his soul, went from 1918 (22 yrs old) to his demise in 1978 and hungered for a WS win all that time. He would have had a long wait to 2004 to see one. When you have a chance, you have to jump on it. As fans of the Sox, part of the fun is being able to speculate on ways to improve our chances. This is a different age and time, but we have a real chance this year so there is that excitement.
  18. Probably be Eovaldi against DeGrom.
  19. So far DD hasn't gone over and picked up a pretty good insurance player in Pearse. I believe you also raised the possibility of us trading an existing resource (were you thinking Pomeranz?) to clear some luxury cap space and perhaps pick up a reliever. The idea of getting Gennett is a dream but with the Reds back in it, they will not want to go in that direction. Our need other than possibly 2nd base is another reliever, probably a lefty. I don't believe DD wants to go over the limit so we will soon see how he intends to strengthen the team. The Yankees will probably look for a starter so they will also be trying to strengthen.
  20. Thornburg is on the roster. Will he join the team Friday in KC?
  21. Having 3 regulars out made me nervous, but we still won. Onward we go!
  22. If it is a spasm as reported, it is not a serious injury. We have Pearse to fill in.
  23. Advanced metrics are like past performances in horse racing. They tell what the player/horse did in the past but ar only partially reliable in predicting future performance. That's the best data the FO's have to make their judgment, but I hope they throw in the observations of solid baseball people as an experience factor to avoid repeating the blunders that we have seen the Sox make.
  24. Nice to see some of the top of the order guys have good nights. JD and Bogaerts with HR's and hitting by Mookie and Beni with one hit also hiit the ball hard tonight on more than one AB. Keep it up boys. Holt will be in the lineup tomorrow with Nunez getting a rest.
  25. As Moon has said, the only way we could pay another even modest salary and stay under the luxury tax limit would be to unload one of our existing contracts. Who would that be? As far as trade bait for a guy of Gennett's ability we would no doubt have to throw in young pitchers and other prospects. No doubt he would help us with Pedroia's health remaining questionable. Even more, it would lower the concern about a cliff looking forward. I'm for improving the team but I suspect the real move with involve one or more relief pitchers.
