  1. Any other explanation?
  2. He leads all infielders with 15 errors. Several have 10 though, like Lindor. On the other hand Shaw has 6 as does the Moose.
  3. Maybe the Twins has a plan against our hitters. They have been pathetic for a couple of days now.
  4. I think Cora sent out guys who should have done better. That's all he can do. The players then are responsible for the results.
  5. The time to strike is when the opportunity presents itself. Waiting until the last minute might mean the opportunity is lost and waiting for the perfect opportunity is a losers game as there never will be a perfect one. That said, the Reds are playing better of late and may feel their season is still viable.
  6. I went over to the Cinncinnati Red Trade site to see what they are saying. They definitely don't think they are in the running this year and their posters have Gennett's name up there but not in conjunction with Boston except for a resource we wouldn't ant to part with. One poster there proposed Billy Hamilton for JBJ straight up or with another secondary Sox player. NOt much team control left on Hamilton though. Hamilton is a premier speed guy and can play center. Not the best of hitters though but an interesting thought that the Reds poster had.
  7. I still view second base as our weakest position and don't believe Pedroia is coming back able to play more than token appearances. Nunez is a weak defender and Holt is our only other viable fill in player, but at many positions. If there is any chance to deal for a competitive full time second baseman, I think we should make that a priority. The Sox will not want to advertise this weakness and will put out positive statements about Pedroia, but that might just be a smokescreen to help them trade for a replacement. I believe DD is cagy enough to be pursuing this line of thinking about team improvement. Beltre as a 3rd base/DH sub is okay but not as needed right now as 2nd and we can get by with JBJ although he too is replaceable.
  8. The Sox are wearing rose colored glasses if they really believe Pedey can come back and be an everyday player this year. The idea of aiming high for Gennette is a good one. Maybe young pitching and Chavis, our #1 listed prospect might do or throw in Travis. If something like that won't do it, back away.
  9. Sale just unravelled when he hit Mauer with a man on first and the meat of the order following. Tough way to go when you just took the lead.
  10. Devers gets an attaboy for that one. Looked like another low pitch inning for erios until that.
  11. Sale has the same luck with the Sox. Need to get two guys to hit back to back to get something going. Minnesota pitcher is good for at least one inning.
  12. More on the second baseman idea. I watched the Yankee/Washington game yesterday and noticed Daniel Murphy was hobbling around. It turns out he also has had microfracture surgery on his knee and is taking a long time to get back from the surgery. Looking at his play, you have to wonder if he will actually make it back to what he was. Pedroia and Murphy are close to the same age, both are second basemen and both are finding it difficult to make the return from this surgery.
  13. Maybe he is rehabbinh his hurt pride.
  14. If the Reds are wiling to let go of Scooter Gennett, I would pursue that possibility, especially if Pedroia can't make it back.
  15. I wonder if the long term plan would be to move Devers to first after Moreland's contract runs out. That would be 2020 unless we do something in the trade market with Moreland. I have read that they expect Devers physique to become more solid even then now as he gets into his prime years. The Sox could pick up a talented 3rd baseman while retaining Devers. An infield of the future with Scooter Gennett at second and Chavez at third might just work better than what we have now.
  16. I note that the Nationals picked up Kelvin Herrera today in a rare mid June trade of consequence. They gave up some minor league players but not their top talent. It looks like he was let go to get rid of salary and to restock the minor league. It appears to indicate that trades this time of year can be pulled off if pursued.
  17. Scooter G would be a greaat addition to the team but probably would require too much in trade.
  18. The way I understand it, Pedey is not going to take part in baseball related activities for a few weeks and concentrate on healing and whatever physical therapy they choose to keep him in shape. After that period which will be into July, they will have to test his situation again and see if he is likely to be able to return to playing this season. If not, they will have time to come up with a full time second baseman. Until that time they can play Holt and Nunez who can fill in but shouldn't be considered fulll time replacements. There was a list of probable replacements who are adequate fielders but none are the kind of players some on the site yearn for (game changers).
  19. If you look up errors by 3rd basemen in a season, I believe Brooks made 3 in an entire season and several others were in the low single digits. Devers has been making far to many errors for a ML starter and many of them are the result of his carelessness. I hope he improves but may wind up at 1st base for the Sox in future years if he doesn't make marked improvement defensivel
  20. My management training courses including one in which is was deemed foolish to make declaritive statements about things you could not possibly know. Perhaps there was another important reason for the DFA of Rameriz. We won't ever know unless someone comes out with a book. I repect your opinion that it was the 2019 option that caused us to release Hanley, but I for one suspect there was more to it than that.
  21. He had a bad defensive day today. Lets hope he gets a lot better soon.
  22. Beni's not ready? I don't get that. He is clearly one of the best hitters on the team, has stolen 12 of 13 bases, is playing a decent left field and is a good replacement for JBJ when he sits. I think virtually any other team in the league would love to have him.
  23. He missed the short hop and they generously scored it a hit. Then he misplayed the bouble play ball and Holt saved him on an off target throw. Forced E-rod to be really good and he got out of it.
  24. The Blue Jays are reeling. Why not try to get Kevin Pillar as an upgrade over JBJ. His full season salary is $3.5 mil, he is similar defensively to JBJ but hit 50 points higher in BA and has a *1.5 WAR. He is 29 years old so would fit the team for a number of years. No need to move Beni. Beltre is 38 years old and has been a great player but expecting him to contribute as more than a part time player is optimistic. I would move Swihart as he is showing no real promise.
  25. Swihart has not produced and we should be able to do better. I agree with Kimmi that neither Holt nor Nunez should be considered every day players and Moreland is in a tailspin now, maybe because he is wearing down. I think Beni is one of the best hitters on the team and he can and will adjust to hitting left hand pitching. Devers on the other hand is a free swinging power hitter who has a lot of trouble making regular contact and he is not a good choice as a cleanup hitter. Maybe there are enough dinged up players to force Cora to do that with him. We only had 2 hits last night so the pitching befuddled the entire lineup.. No need to single out specific players. The real question is what can DD do to improve the team with the constraints he is under?
