    I thought Eovaldi has good velocity and location. The Devers error made him pitch from from the stretch and the big hit against him was on a high and away FB just out of the strike zone. That was very good hitting not bad pitching. Leon is doing a decent job of pitch calling but if you are referring to the changeup thrown by Kelly on a 3 and 2 call, it might have been on Kelly, not Leon.

    Cora let him get shelled. Pomeranz is not good enough to be in there but Cora didn't appear serious about winning the game. He did come in with Betts later so his approach appears inconsistent tonight. It was tough to have the bases loaded and none out and only get one. Devers did hit the ball hard after a poor showing earlier. Leon is Leon and Beni couldn't deliver.

    Devers put Eovaldi in a hole with another terrible throw. I noticed he had a mouth full of sun flower seeds at 3rd. What is he doing out there. The kid also hasn't been a threat at the plate. I would rest him when Kinsler gets back. We are getting late in the season and the kid really isn't correcting his mistakes nor is he yet a professional hitter at the plate. A rst and some coaching might help him. Maybe a little tough love is in order.

    The pen seems to be way off of late. Consistently wild and seemingly rattled when they get in games. Today we saw Thornburg, Barnes and Kimbrel all have issues. Hope somehow with rest and perhaps some different coaching they can throw strikes when they come in with a good lead. Baltimore is not that strong offensively, so what would happen against a team that is if the BP comes in wild..

    Terrible to come in and walk a guy with a 3 run lead and then throw a knuckle curve when he couldn't hit the fastball. What's next?

    Really an awful appearance by Barnes. Two hits a wild pitch and a walk all leading to a run and could have been much worse. What is going on with the BP. Hembree is beyond awful these days and neither Barnes nor Kimbrel seems to have the dominance they had earlier and now Thornburg was bad. Isn't there something the pitching coach can do?

    E-Rod is a big pieceeto get back and probably will give us 6 innings a start with minimum runs. He replaces Joohnson in the lineup and Sale is back as our #1. Big help to the pitching staff. Kinsler may make it back against the Phillies. That improves our defense and depth and by the way, the guy can hit. Swihart also will be back very soon and will replace Butler, who after all is just a placeholder. Vaz's return is a ways off as he may not make it back until September. We are strong enough to get by without him for a while. This team is getting stronger from an already good position and barring further injuries should win the American League East.

    He has been awful for us recently. Can't even get the bottom of the order and nibbles until he walks guys. Now the game is tied again.

    I get nervous any time he gets on the mound and tonight it is with a 1 run lead.

    Absolutely. He is starting to look more like last year when he helped the team so much.

    None better. 36 on August 11th. Now the rest need to get going.

    Is Michael Chavis eligible? If so, it would only be for a look as next season he may be considered for a roster spot.

    Nine run lead in the 8th. I played today so off to bed. Our offense is great. Maybe we should have gone out and gotten a RP. Swihart will be back in a few days so Leon will get some help. Don't know if the pitching was bothered by the catcher tonight but Swihart will solve that and Vaz is probably at least two weeks away.

    The guy is our most reliable relief pitcher.

    Yes, Beni and Devers are the only two without a hit.

    Eovaldi had none of the velocity we saw recently. Ninety or 91 MPH across the center of the plate. Was his tipping pitches or what was happening. It would be good to get Kinsler back to shore up the defense but to see JBJ make a critical error was discouraging. Maybe just one of those nights. Two in a row come to think of it.

    I am old school but find it interesting that those who might disagree with you are idiots to your way of thinking. All change is not bad, the shift came in as a change and has changed the game and not for the better. Starting pitchers used to finish games at a much higher rate, but now we have a line of RP's in from the 5th inning on, each throwing 95 mph or greater. We have umpires who invent their own strike zones. The offense has changed to mainly HR's. These are all recent changes by my standards. Give the hitters a break. If it takes some limiting of the shift and standardized ball and strike calling, so be it.

    Actually Pom did a better job last time out than we got from Porcello. What's up with him?

    We are living in the virtual world of video gamer's, but I prefer baseball played by real live people with all their strengths and flaws. Those that love to talk in stats can have them. I guess when it comes to paying players there has to be some way to justify the pay differences.

    The earliest for Swihart is the 14th while Vaz is around the end of August. The finger was expected to heal up in 6 to 8 weeks from the surgery plus sme time to get in a game or two in AAA.

    I wonder how many of these hamstring injuries are related to the hard running associated with stealing bases? Also, while Swihart's numbers don't look good for the season, he did seem to be on the upswing (no pun intended) just before he went on the DL.

    I still play softball, even at my advanced age, and I do know that it is hard to hit a ball that is outside of the strike zone. It must be doubly hard with baseballs that are coming in at very high velocities and have movement. I would think it makes a world of difference to a hitter whether a ball that is 2 inches off the plate is called a strike.

    I've noticed how Kelly now relies on the same 2 pitches as Kimbrel The 4 seam fastball and the knuckle curve. Kelly throws harder, but may not have as much deception or movement. Having Kimbrel follow Kelly is like oh, here comes more of the same.
