  1. We clamored on this board to extend Devers. #1 priority before 2023 season starts everyone said. Sox sign him to a 10 year deal. Now all we can talk about his pending move to 1B where we have 5 year team controlled player that may finish 2nd in the Rookie of the Year Voting. I am shaking my head. We got rid of the shortstop that lead the majors in errors at the time of the trade. We replaced him with a plus defender. It appears we have a future gold glove centerfielder close to the majors. I was led to believe Wong is a good defensive catcher. Maybe they were only talking about his 'pop' time being good. One step at a time folks. We did a great job shoring up the bullpen last year. If we do the same with our starting rotation, our bullpen will even get deeper and stronger. I really don't give a damn that we finished last. I'm sure the Yankee fans are doing cartwheels having not finished last. Yeah, right. World championship rings. We may have to wait until 2025 to go for it. But I believe we're getting closer.
  2. "He wanted to leave and I can't blame him for going to the Dodgers. That's my storyline." Is this the court of the law? Geez, some people are uptight.
  3. He wanted to leave and I can't blame him for going to the Dodgers. That's my storyline.
  4. Is there a stat for relievers that show runners inherited, runners scored? My reason for asking is especially during last couple of months, it appears (eye test) Winckowski has not done a very good job when he comes in. Damn the ERA. Inheriting 3 runners and all of them scoring has no impact on his ERA but it certainly doesn't qualify as getting the job done. Just curious.
  5. 77-83 A Realistic View of 2023: Part II. Shouldn't we retire this thread after tomorrow's game? We will get the final Realist View of 2023 Season.
  6. What do you base it on? Eye test? 3.2 vs 1.2?
  7. With the 2023 Red Sox season winding down, co-hosts Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam dished out several Red Sox awards on the most recent episode of the Fenway Rundown podcast. Cotillo and McAdam agreed that Justin Turner — not Rafael Devers — should be considered the team’s MVP despite Devers having better statistics in most categories. 1 Rafael Devers BOS 3.2 2 Jarren Duran BOS 2.4 3 Alex Verdugo BOS 2.2 4 Kutter Crawford BOS 2.1 5 Chris Sale BOS 2.1 6 Adam Duvall BOS 2.0 7 Brayan Bello BOS 1.7 8 Triston Casas BOS 1.7 9 Nick Pivetta BOS 1.5 10 Chris Martin BOS 1.5 11 Justin Turner BOS 1.3 Because Justin is a nice guy? Typical Boston talking heads.
  8. I was making a point that most of our position players are Pre-Arb guys and cheap.
  9. For 2025, we are only committed to 4 players, Devers, Yoshida, Story and Whitlock totaling $75M. We are $144M under luxury tax threshhold. Not sure why everyone here is depressed. C Teel/Wong 1B Casas 2B Yorke SS Mayer/Story 3B Devers OF Rafaela OF Duran OF Abreu OF Anthony DH Yoshida Go buy some pitching. See how easy it is?
  10. I am talking about Casas on 10/4/22 vs Abreu on 10/4/23. Do u not see the stat line for each on Sept call up?
  11. Good read on Boston Globe as season winds down. Bello has been our most consistent starter, only pitcher to log 150+ innings. Obviously he's hit a wall. Globe pencils him in as #3 starter. Noting Sox needs to find #1 and #2 via free agency or trade. Globe thinks Pivetta is a keeper as our #5 noting his resurgence after getting demoted. His big plus is his ability to eat up innings. Globe thinks Verdugo will be gone. His lack of production after the All Atar break, his lack of effort on a consistence basis and finally the fact that he is set to become a free agent in 2025. Globe is very high on Abreu. Cora loves his swing and his hustle. Lastly Globe wants the team to figure out what they have in Houck. Starter or reliever. Cora thinks he knows the answer but no one has asked.
  12. Well if you put it that way....I think I remember Cora saying Kike will be fine at short.
  13. There's some crazy talk about Anthony making his major league debut in 2024. Pretty unreal but hope it happens.
  14. I was going off what Cora said about Abreu in the spring. Maybe I'm bit too optimistic. I just don't see much difference (offensively) between Verdugo and Abreu.
  15. Smaller than Casas? We handed him the 1B job.
  16. No way I'm trading Duran. He's a keeper. His athleticism is off the charts.
  17. Well the 'color commentator' on NESN said "he looks like an everyday player to me" after his second dinger in September. I have no doubt Abreu will hit 20+ home runs. Just for comparison of September call up numbers; GP AB R Hits 2B HR RBI BA OPS 27 76 11 15 01 05 12 .197 .766 Casas 22 58 09 21 05 02 11 .362 .983 Abreu I can make a stronger case that Abreu belongs more than Casas as of 10/4 And he can't play much worse defense, no? Nice job by Bloom for getting Abreu from the Astros for 2 month rental of Vaz (he didn't even start for them)
  18. I know I know....many of you aren't enthralled with Abreu, yet but Can he exceed Verdugo's numbers and save the Sox $6-8M? 80 Runs 36 Doubles 13 HR 54 RBI .753 OPS (He's ranked 5th out of 9 eligible right fielders in AL. He's closer to bottom 4 than the top 3, all over .803 OPS) Again, for me, it's like watching Beni and I lost interest in Beni long ago.
  19. Suppose we get two top line pitchers for 2024. SP 1 FA SP 2 FA SP 3 Bello SP 4 Pivetta (yes he's back in my grace) SP 5 Sale, Crawford, Houck Clos. Jansen Setup Martin BP Winckowski, Whitlock, Schreiber, Bernardino, others Do you think this lineup will score enough runs? 1 Rafaela/Duran CF 2 Devers 3B 3 Duvall, LF 4 Casas 1B 5 Story SS 6 Abreu RF 7 Yoshida DH 8 Reyes 2B 9 Wong C Combination of players, LF, CF, RF, 1B, DH, 6 total from Rafaela, Abreu, Duran, Casas, Yoshida, Duvall
  20. 2019 team was predicted to win 95 games, just 2 below the Yankees and 3 below the Astros. My recollection was that pitching staff faltered. Wasn't that the spring we held back the starters? Extra month of work in 2018 was the reason given.
  21. This is how I look at it. Despite all the knives thrown at our favorite Japanese whipping boy-son, our outfield improved greatly offensively. Don't forget that many of you didn't think much of Verdugo's defense in 2022. 2023 OF & DH Yoshida Turner Duvall 87 games Duran 102 games Verdugo 137 games, OPS of .753 I think this group for 2024 maybe better Duvall 140 games (previous Gold Glove winner) Rafaela 150 games (future Gold Glove winner) Abreu 150 games (I will leave this site if Abreu can't hit above .750 OPS, that's how confident I am) Duran 150 games (his D improves by refining the stuff between the ears) Yoshida -DH primarily (I will miss his short strides...any analysis on how many steps he takes to get to a routine flyball?) And we shed some payroll....our defense improves simply by not playing Yoshida in left field
  22. Verdugo doesn't interest me anymore. Year 6. $8M for 2024? I rather watch Abreu. He has more power potential. $1M for 2024. The difference will cover Pivetta's pay or close to it. Or throw on top of what we're going to offer the Japanese pitcher. That's how you manage payroll. Verdugo looks like he's following Beni career path. Some say he has no trade value so keep him? If he's as good as many here thinks, he should have some trade value, no?
  23. I still like Dalbec.
  24. Devers raise is taken care by getting rid of Kike. At least that's how think. (Oh no, who will play shortstop?)
