  1. Verdugo hitting .466 OPS for the Yankees. I like what we got in return.
  2. I think long term, we're better off playing Devers as DH and moving Yoshida to another team. Pay $10M of his contract. He looks more and more like singles hitting DH. Maybe playing in Fenway 81 games will help with his power game. More and more looks to me like another overpay by Bloom. So we now have non performing contracts in Sale, Story, Giolito and Hendriks. $64M on the shelf. This is why John Henry hates baseball. It maybe part of the game but you still don't like it. If I'm JH, I would insist on insurance for any contracts over $10M. Big mistake not having one on Giolito.
  3. 8 Left handed hitters in the lineup.....has this happened before?
  4. My guess is Story will miss significant time, even rest of the year. That said... The question becomes which position defensively is more important? Center field or shortstop. I would say shortstop. Thus, I would prefer Rafaela (ss)/Duran (cf) combo over Reyes (ss)/ Rafaela combination. You can insert Hamilton/Valdez/Grissom at short but Rafaela/Duran combo trumps over anything else. I'd much rather have say Abreu/Refsnyder offense over Hamilton any day. (By moving Rafaela to short, Abreu/Refsnyder will need to fill in for open outfield spot.)
  5. O Neill had been excellent addition. It's all about staying healthy for him. Duran O'Neill and Rafaela should be much improved defensively compared to 2023 group.
  6. Our relievers disguised as starters are doing just fine. Just because experts on this board proclaim they are relievers does not make it so. I will trust Brez over experts here. At some point we had to find out what we had in our five starters.
  7. Brez is committed to youth movement and developing players we have. I am in favor of it. And many of you wanted to send down Rafaela for more seasoning. This site loses much credibility with stupid suggestions. Speaking of asinine can we quit making trades based on whatever stupid plateform many of you use? Give me one trade suggested using that platform that has ever come to fruition.
  8. Think of insane $$ we spent on Moncada. DD was confident enough about Devers and thus made the trade for Sale. Great trade. Kopech was thought to be the big loss but like many prospects he did not reach stardom.
  9. 1 BB in 28 innings blows my mind.....
  10. Speaking of defense....I'm beginning to think we need to move from Devers at 3B. Let him just DH. So we need a plus defender that can match Yoshida in offensive output. We're looking for Devers+Yoshida = Devers (DH) + 3B with better glove I really don't see any 3B on our top 30 prospect list. I wonder if Grissom can move to 3B. His bat to ball skill maybe comparable to that of Yoshida. That's assuming Grissom can become better defender than Devers. What about Mayer moving to 3B?
  11. Basically we have $48M to replace Nick Pivetta's spot in the rotation for 2025. (Gone are Sale, Jansen, Martin and Pivetta's contracts) In theory we have Giolito to replace him. His pay for 2025 is baked in. But he may not be ready on April 2025. We lose Jansen and Martin but Hendriks should take one of the spots. His $5M pay for 2025 is also baked in. Tanner, Reyes, Kutter, Dalbec and Duran will be arbitration eligible for the first time. Kutter and Tanner maybe or should be extended. Cot is showing we have about $110M under the $240M luxury tax for 2025; $90M if we stick to $220M budget. O'Neill will also be FA, we are paying him $5.85M. Looking more and more like we overpaid for Yoshida. We are paying a DH $18M with no power. Good job by Bloom. We really do piss away money. Pay Mookie type $35M and flank him with 2 rookies. We tend to over pay on 'cheap suits' and regret wearing it everytime. I think future is looking up though. This rotation just needs to stay healthy.
  12. These guys should be in their prime. 25 Bello (7 yrs) 28 Kutter (5 yrs) 28 Whitlock (5 yrs) 28 Houck (4 years) 31 Pivetta (1 year) They have shown they can be decent. Would you trade Pivetta if we are out of it in July and we can't extend him?
  13. Can't worry about one game. Managers plays the % and that can go wrong. But the Cora's love affair with Kike was ridiculous.
  14. $41M I have fat fingers....
  15. Moon, I would love to see 'non-performing' contracts by year.... 2024 $41,250 (Giolito, Sale and Hendriks) This is the area where we have to get better.....I'm convinced going young is better...players getting hurt will reinforce Henry's thinking about not signing 30+ pitchers. I think we're doing the right thing by pitching Bello, Kutter, Houk and Whitlock. Let's see what we have.... JMO
  16. I am a big fan of Bernardino. Disappointed he is not part of 26.
  17. So Bello threw his 4 seamer 540 times last year and was hit hard....ops above 1.000. His first outing? 0 4 seamers. " Doc, it hurts when I raise my arm." " Don't raise your arm."
  18. Jansen out and Devers missing 2 out of 3. Maybe the starting pitchers will surprise us all.
  19. You simply stick Rafaela out on center. Ref is a utility piece. I would be pissed if Rafaela is sent down to make a room for Ref. Rafaela is our future center fielder. If we can't srick with him this year when we're expected to come in dead last then when when will he get an opportunity?
  20. I will wait until November 2024 to weigh in when much of contracts will disappear. My issue is we continue to throw away money. We are stuck with Giolito's contract for one more year.
  21. I don't believe a team has ever redone the contract for current year. Casas extension has to be done prior to season opener.
  22. +800 OPS Abreu Duran Rafaela Grissom Is that acceptable?
  23. Obviously I am not optimistic about this year. I doubt we make the playoffs. I am anxious to watch all the youngsters perform, especially our starting rotation. It is what management does this winter will say everything about John Henry and the future. He will be standing on the cliff.
  24. Not sure how my Youtube viewing came across podcast of Padres talking heads but they are all unhappy with Xander's contract. Anyone here really think that would have been a good contract for the Sox?
  25. ]Overthemonster[/color] Looking ahead to 2025, like Red Sox executives seem to already be doing, the future very well could be bright. If each of the top three prospects continue to progress as Sam Kennedy thinks they will, a roster of 13 hitters could potentially feature: Catcher: Kyle Teel, Connor Wong Infield: Triston Casas, Vaughn Grissom, Marcelo Mayer, Trevor Story, Rafael Devers, TBD Free Agent Outfield: Jarren Duran, Masataka Yoshida, Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu Setting aside the fact that eight of those twelve hitters listed are left-handed, that group can compete. But, what if one of the Big Three stalls? Now that's what I'm talking about.....team controlled players.
