  1. Moon, what do you think about extending Pomeranz?
  2. I want some power out of our corner positions...1B, 3B, LF, RF....but I'm willing to see what develops with our younger kids. He was an elite hitter at IU. I'm all for Sox getting 6+ years of control guys. We need to have some self control going forward. We had a reset when we got rid of high contracts to LA. Then we turned around and signed Hanley and Pable. I think Price was a must get. We need to be selective. As much as I want EE that's not the smart thing to do with so many of our young guys coming up for not only FA but pretty hefty arbitration numbers.
  3. This is why I prefer a simple free agency signing....don't trade away our future....Moncada, Swihart et al...
  4. I'm not too hyped up about Sam Travis. Corner infielder with limited pop.
  5. I'd want to keep E Rod. No way I trade Kopech with his high upside. I'm not sure if they'd go for Moncada, Devers, Swihart and couple of other secondary players. That will decimate our farm.
  6. he would be expensive in terms of giving up players....I'd hate to give up on Moncada, Kopech, Bradley Jr, etc...
  7. I'm very much looking forward to watching Beni play next year as the starting left fielder. I'd love to see both Swihart and Moncada get a look at some point. Throw in Kopech in a September call up and I'm excited for the season. Beni, Betts, Bradley Jr, Xander, Moncada, Swihart, E Rod, Kopech.....I'm nicknaming our core group of youngsters "the Beni and the Betts"......https://youtu.be/D0TnUUqXxaQ
  8. I will go along with DEWY.... Sox need to focus on run prevention. It would be nice to get an ace but I'm not willing to give up any prospects. We should be building the team not risk taking a step backward. I'm changing my mind about our bullpen. If we're going to upgrade it, then we should go big. I vote for Chapman and call it a day. Our offense will take a step back. We will need to protect leads. No more 15-4 games. We need to win 5-3 games. Chapman is your answer. Add Kopech in September. Kimbrel, Kelly, Barnes, Chapman and Kopech....now that's some heat.
  9. I'd like to borrow money from some of you guys.....with your logic I can get a loan for $10,000 today from you and pay you back $10,000 five years from now... You're comparing Pomeranz today vs Espi 5 years from now. What is Espi worth today ASSUMING HE FULL FILLS YOUR FANTASY? There's a time value to money and one has to discount back Espi's worth five years from now to today's worth. From where I sit, we gave up just about the right amount, especially with risks involved when it comes to an eighteen year old pitcher.
  10. we had just finished dead last for two years, three of last 4 years, we went out and spent a good deal of money/prospects acquiring Price and Kimbrel, Ortiz is having a great year on his farewell tour, Pedey is healthy playing well, B boys are having a great year..... We needed another starter. We got another starter. Now everyone here wants to be a Monday f***ing morning quarterback. Still whinning about Espy. Lets rehash the Babe Ruth trade. Isn't time to put your big boy boxers on and look ahead to 2017?
  11. I thought we were adding couple bullpen pieces and punt til July? I'm opposed to giving up Moncada, Devers, Kopech, Gromes, Swihart.
  12. I'm a bit biased.....I'm an Indiana University grad. I would never have believed that Schwarber's college bat would translate to mlb this quickly and this good.
  13. How about Kyle Schwarber for Rick Porcello straight up and signing Hill. Wouldn't that be selling high and clearing up some money? Schwarber can play some left field.
  14. You had it nailed....and this is why I'm opposed to trading E Rod. We finally get a starting pitcher with some upside (yeah I know he came via a trade but he seems like one of our own ) and he's in almost every trade discussion.
  15. 5) None of the above
  16. If defense is truly valued behind the plate, then I guess we go with Leon/Vaz tandem. Depending on game situation, Vaz can be pinch hit third time around if it's a winnable, close game. I just hate the thought of Swihart blossoming for another club, and catching.
  17. I can see every position player come out in the spring with a T shirt..."I'm a DH"
  18. Why the rush to trade away one of our catchers? Let all three build up additional value. And why would Sox entertain trading away an outfield group that can lead us to multiple world series? Fix the f***ing problem, don't create it.
  19. The whole point is not getting stuck with a 4/5 year contract, Ryan Braun. I much rather go the committee route than taking on salary and giving up 22 years of team control guys.
  20. You are correct.....I'm going to assume he remains healthy and relevant for Sox next two years.
  21. And no position player comes off in 2018
  22. Well hell, I'm going to blame it all on Clay Buchholtz. We traded for Peavy because Clay got hurt. We traded for Pomeranz because Clay sucked. We are so pissed at him that we game him a $13M contract and we're giddy about it. That pretty much sums it up, no?
  23. For me, the difference this winter is we now have a team that's capable of competing for the division title with bullpen additions. If we don't do anything else, we may not be dominant but we're probably good enough to win the division. Just want to see Wright repeat his first half, Pomeranz improve, E Rod stays healthy and continues to improve, Beni become a solid fixture in outfield, Betts repeat or come close to what he did last year, Xander get out of his funk, Pedy just needs to be on the field, Swihart given a chance to catch, Kelly continue to improve and be consistent, Buchholtz return to his odd year performance.....well you know where I'm going with this.... I think DD will kick the tire on EE situation, gentlly, but he'd probably find the tire too hard. Plan B is to add little pieces or big dollar short term contracts.
  24. Just hearing good things about Kopech. Control issues are minimal. Ball movement is excellent, tight spin, can't set on his fast ball any longer, etc. Swing and miss pitcher. Fastball, slider, change. Got rid of curve ball. Just going by memory on what I've read. Apparently he used his suspension time well to develop and work on his pitches. Hopefully Grooome won't be too far behind, but he is only 18. Looking at team controllable years on several players on our current roster, I'm really okay with tweaking the bullpen and just sitting back. I don't want to trade away young players with high ceiling potential. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get Votto, but with his salary, we can simply get a FA with less contract length. Betts, Xander, Bradley, Beni, Swihart, Moncada, Devers, E Rod, Kopech, Groome, Ownens, Johnson, Travis, Hernandez, Dalbech, Chatham, Shawaryn just to name a few...keepers.
  25. Kopech having a great AFL....one walk in 14 innings. He and E Rod maybe our future 1/2. I hope the Sox will have a long look at him as a starter and not convert him into a reliever.
