We have Beni for 6 years, Betts and Bradley for 3 more. Outfield depth needs to be addressed in 2018 but I don't think it will be a major concern. But we are pretty thin everywhere until last year's class move through the system.

On the heels of two last place finishes, what did anyone expect DD to do? I just hate Monday morning quarterbacks. We won the Division and had a chance to win the World Series when the first pitch was thrown in Cleveland. DD did his job.

What has changed is many here are more astute about financial constraints placed on Sox especially with severe penalties attached for going over the luxury tax limit. There's simply too much money vested in Pablo. Having Devers come through with no Sale to me is not as attractive as using Devers to acquire Sale and try to rehabilitate Pablo's career at 3rd. If Pablo can give us average production at third, then we'll be that much closer to winning the title. Pablo tried to fool us when in fact he was fooling himself. Let's hope he's in his best shape to meet the challenges og hitting ml pitching. Yeah patting one's back is not very attractive. It's akin to publicizing one doing a good deed. The act itself is the reward. Not being recognized for it.

Trading HanRam and/or Pablo next winter may become an option. Exactly...I'm just pointing out that someone MAY EMERGE during 2017. And THAT may allow Sox to trade off a piece or two to position themselves to sign current players as they become FA. It will become a cluster f*** eventually. Possibly winning a world championship along the way will keep us all fully engaged. I also suspect that couple of players will receive ridiculous offers that Sox won't be able to match in three years. Winning in 2017/18 becomes critical.

Don't forget Kimbrel has $13M club option after 2017 season. My feeling is that he's a DD guy and his option will be picked up, UNLESS SMITH, THORNBURG AND KELLY goes nuts in 2017.

If he plays well, then we'll have more options with him. Not that it matters, but isn't this Craig's last year? St. Louis sure knew something about him that we didn't.

I'm thinking should he have a decent year, then we trade him. It will be one less year on his contract. Hopefully Devers is making enough progress to warrant a 2018 call up. If we can will it all in 2017, then DD will have earned additional 'good grace' to do something extraordinary.

Nerd that I am, I have it on my desk top, sorted by positions for quick reference. Ok, I have way too much time. Next event of interest is where the arbitration numbers stack up.

Well DD is bit more optimistic than you....but what's he going to say? Our bullpen SUCKS!

"Well, I think the one thing is the roster is balanced in a lot of different areas," said Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. "I do like that. Our starting pitching is strong, and it's deep. Our bullpen has become deeper with the [Tyler] Thornburg addition and we think Joe Kelly can pitch well for us and we're in the spot where we led the league in runs scored last year. Again, we should pay some attention to what DD is thinking....No freaking way he's sending Kelly down to AAA to 'stretch' him or to save a roster spot for a guy with no options remaining. Does what DD says matter to any of you? He's been a straight shooter if nothing else.

I don't think the issue is the dollar amount subject to tax THIS YEAR. The issue is resetting the penalty rate for Sox. What you don't want is 50% penalty for 2018 season.

Again, is anyone paying attention to what DD is saying? Starting job is E Rod to lose. Jesus...any of you coached before? Do you know what that means? This is akin to Clay B discussion. He was gone when we traded for Sale.

We'll need to trade for a 4th OF for 2018.....I don't think we can afford to keep Young. Maybe if it doesn't work out with Swihart, he can learn to be a back up in LF, C, 1B and 3B. I don't see anyone close to being ready in the minors.

After 2017, we'll have as many as 16 players in arbitration process, 6 more under contract but Sale will require $6M bump in luxury tax computation. We only have Moreland ($5.5M), Young ($6.5M) and possibly Abad (anticipated $2M in year 3 arb this year) for total of $14M coming off the books. We can get some relief if we pick up the club option for Kimbrel ($12M) and trade him assuming Kelly, Smith, Thornburg, Ross, Hembree and Barnes all come through and improve. Do something similar to what we did with Clay B. What I'm getting at is we still won't have much financial wiggle room next year. At some point, we'll have to trade away a $20M contract for prospects so we can keep our core together.

Whoa Moon.....I'm not pointing finger at you.....just a general observation. I think you would agree that DD is very happy with our current, projected OF trio. Thus no trading Bradley Jr and Beni....

Holt had some big misplays in OF....just because a guy makes easy plays doesn't mean he's a good outfielder.

I ended up paying $90 or so to get the Red Sox only package. They can raise it to $200 and I will still get it. There's still room for growth, as long as we are winning. Perhaps by 2025 there will be no foul territory at Fenway to accomodate additional seating....jk.

I'm strictly pointing out that new CBA will bring parity among teams in terms of competition but the revenues will be tilted still towards big market clubs. John Henry will make more money without getting called out by the Sox fans. He's spending the MAX already and the goalposts aren't moving much....what will be our complaint other than poor baseball operation? He can take out DD without spending much money.

With additional penalty attached without raising the ceiling very high, MLB is getting closer to having a hard cap. This is really a win for major market team owners. More money will drop into their pockets without seeming greedy. Henry is spending close to the luxury tax limit. Meanwhile TV revenue continues to rise. As pointed out in the past, revenue increases are outstripping the increase in luxury tax limit.
