  1. lol....check mate. I will bet anyone million that there was an article about sox coming in second, behind the White Sox. I'm not betting it's true, but there was an article. Just because a guy on this board hasn't seen it doesn't make it didn't happen.
  2. I haven't compared missed games/starts by starters for both the Sox and the Yankees. It's just a grind. Gutsy performance to win the last two at Houston. It could have gone really south for us. I'm staying positive.
  3. I'm glad you were there to witness the comeback and the homer. We've done amazingly well to this point. Injuries are all part of the game. Not having Betts is huge. I would not be too concerned about Pedey if I thought Nunez was 100%. He just doesn't seem the same to me. One wrong step or turn and he looks to be injured. We still have tons of upside. None of our starters are really in their groove. JBJ maybe breaking out. If he could just hit .250. We just need to leave Devers alone. Hit him 8th if we have to. It's probably still too early to give up on Pom. It's encouraging to see Wright pitch well. Thank God for JD Martinez.
  4. Cora has said that Swihart will get a start behind the plate next week. He can be a valuable bench player at the very least by playing LF, 3B, 1B and catching.
  5. I was just tired of talking about the past. Good or bad, this is our team. Despite objections on this board by some, it sure is fun to watch JD Martinez along with dormant bats come alive as we suspected from Betts and Xander. (2017 compared to 2016). I'm guessing you think there's no way we re-sign Pom? Won't we need Hanley's $22M and Pom's $9M to cover raises for Betts, Xander, JBJ and to re-sign Kimbrel and maybe Kelly? As well as Kelly is pitching, I'm not sure if we have enough money to sign him. I've been a Kelly basher for long time. He's finally mixing up pitches to go with his 100mph straight ball. He's become a pitcher and not just a thrower. Barnes on the other hand.......well he's cheap and he's young. Sale Price E Rod Porcello Wright Some young guys need to step up and provide depth. It's about managing payroll and you do that as well as anyone here on the board. You see the big picture. All of our position guys will come back for 2019. And only Xander and Moreland will be FA in 2020.
  6. but you are missing the big picture guys we have versus guys we gave up....are we as good over the last 3 years without the trades? No question we traded future for winning now. Do you think sox nation would have been happy with mediocre teams on the heels of two last place finishes or three out four? Let it go, moon. Are you unhappy with the team we have today?
  7. Apparently DD has done somethings right. He's no Theo or Ben though.
  8. I respect Moon but I always hate him sitting on the fence. Moon Which trade would you undue?
  9. Hanley Ramirez (.708 OPS) not producing as Boston Red Sox's No. 3 hitter, Alex Cora should consider lineup change per MassLive We don't OWE Hanley anything. Let the performance dictate their playing time. It appears to me both Beni and Hanley should be platooned.
  10. I can dream Of course that's after Sox winning the World Series I guess you missed this part......
  11. I'd love to see Machado in our lineup. Price opts outs ($31M), Hanley does not vest ($22M), trade Xander ($7.05M), trade Moreland ($6.5M), let Pom's contract expire ($8.5M), trade JBJ ($6.1M), let Kelly go ($3.825M), trade Holt ($2.225M). Total Savings $87.2M. Trade for Votto ($22.5M), sign Machado and Harper ($66M), sign Kimbrel (additional cost of $5M), total $93.5M. Pablo's $19M will come into play after 2019. Votto decides he wants to play for a winner. Votto for Beni and Moreland (1 year left on contract). Line Up Betts CF Votto 1B JD Martinez LF Harper RF Machado SS Devers 3B Pedroia 2B Vazquez C ?????? DH Rotate, use Nunez and others to sub in position wise I can dream Of course that's after Sox winning the World Series
  12. J.D. Freakin Martinez
  13. I like this idea.......it gives ultimate protection for Betts and others like him. Or go every other year. Injuries, down turn in performance, all protection for the player.
  14. Never thought I'd say this but I'm anxiously waiting for Dustin's return. Nunez looks not to be 100%. His defense is just lacking. I like him but again, he looks like he's playing hurt.
  15. JD freaking Martinez!
  16. We need at least 3 out of five going strong, right now it's Sale, E Rod and Price. Pom is just frustrating to watch right now. Maybe he can turn it around, it's still early.
  17. Agree. I still think it was a good signing at the time. At the time of signing, JD was not a sure thing. At the very least, thus we had DH/1B covered with Moreland and Hanley. I also thought Moreland played hurt last year. He's not great but more than adequate.
  18. And the Yankees have played 7 more home games than the Sox. That will jump to 10 when we open a 7 game home stand vs A's.
  19. I will never be convinced that Barnes can handle high leverage situations. He just looks soft out there. I'm still not there with Kelly, although I'm pleased that he's mixing up his pitches. We just need to see if Thornburg can be that 8th inning guy for us. I still think Carson Smith can handle 7th inning. We've really f***ed up Swihart situation. I also will NEVER be convinced that Holt is better for Sox than Swihart, long term.
  20. At some point, fans will get wised to that approach and tell the home team "call me when the upgrade is complete". What's in it for the White Sox fan this year? (as an example)
  21. I bet the Orioles fans would love to have E Rod now. Was that trade worth it for Baltimore? Agree on Devers. He's 21. We have six years of team control. We finally have answer to our revolving 3B issue. Let it go.
  22. As a coach, you always look for your team's ceiling. Good news is that Sox can get better. 1 Pom can hit his stride after a slow start as he did last year. 2 Both Price and Sale have some work to do. 3 E Rod has chance to finally come into his own this year for sustained period 4 Carson Smith is still on his recovery phase 5 At some point, we should see Thornburg. 6 I'm impressed with Poyner (sp?) 7 Pedey will eventually come off the disable list. He'll give us better defense. If healthy, he'll hit. 8 Devers will be smarter with pitch recognition and hit better. 9 JD will continue to improve his power production as weather gets warmer. 10 Xandder and Betts simply need to stay on the field. Jacksonianmarch can talk all he wants about not all Yankees hitting their stride, same can be said of Sox.
  23. Game after game, hitting home runs have been critical to our success. We can bury our heads in the sand but the fact remains we play in AL East and MUST HIT FOR POWER if we are to succeed in this Division. Yes, pitching still wins games but it sure is easier scoring runs with a homer. I've argued that stringing together 3 hits does not guaranty a run at Fenway due to short left field. DD did the right thing by signing Martinez. He has lengthened our lineup.
  24. Kingham takes perfecto into 7th, wins debut Righty strikes out nine in first MLB start as Pirates sweep Cardinals Steve Blass walked into the Pirates clubhouse on Sunday morning, made a quick right turn and found Nick Kingham sitting in front of his locker. Blass, the Pittsburgh pitcher turned broadcaster, shook Kingham's hand and gave the 26-year-old some advice a few hours before his Major League debut: "Be yourself." Kingham has learned a lot about himself since the Pirates drafted him eight years ago out of Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas. A lot of his education took place over the past three years. He was on the cusp of reaching the Majors in 2015, but Tommy John surgery delayed his arrival. He worked his way back in 2016, returned to Triple-A in 2017 and went back this spring when he didn't crack Pittsburgh's rotation. See how other teams do it? Boston Red Sox prospect Jalen Beeks dominating with 1.37 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 19.2 innings at Pawtucket.
  25. I don't care what ANY manager says, after a 2-4 one homer night, why in the f*** would I want to come out?
