  1. Interesting that Dalbec was both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. Devers, Chavis and Dalbec our future DH/1B/3B combo?
  2. Qulity starting pitching is a must. Can we add depth at around $10M? 2019 Sale, Price, E Rod, Porcello, Wright, Vector, Johnson solid 2020 Sale, Price, E Rod, Wright, Vector, Johnson....no way we let Sale go. 2021 Sale, Price, E Rod (final yr of arb), Vector, Johnson
  3. I just think Dustin abused his body by giving 200% on a body that couldn't give 100%. It's pretty amazing what he's accomplished.
  4. I don't think we re-sign Porcello at $20M plus and sign Sale and Xander. Something has to give. After 2018 for 2019 season Sox pick up approximately $56M (22+8.5+13+3.8+9=Hanley+Pom+Kimbrel+Kelly+additinal cap space) Basically we have $56M to cover arb raises ($20M?) and Kimbrel if we want. We'll be good again in 2019 After 2019 for 2020 season, Sox will pick up $19M on Pablo, $20M on Porcello and $6.5M on Mitch for total of $45M. Do we have enough money to sign Sale (additonal $17M), Xander (additional 10M) and re work JD's contract while covering arb raises? We should be competitive in 2020. Whats obvious is that Sox hasn't developed in house starting pitching talent. Can we do another Miller to Baltimore trade? Or do something really drastic and trade one of our best players for cost controlled proven talent.
  5. JBJ is a 4 year arb guy....he becomes FA with Betts
  6. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/2018/09/mlb_notes_red_sox_have_been_cornered_without_jose_abreu Great read on what could have been with Abreu
  7. quite honestly, he should just retire. We're going to win 105+ without him. Let that sink in.
  8. He has value on this Red Sox team. No more, no less. What can you get for him in a trade? Not much.
  9. We keep using him.
  10. Can we just stick a fork in Pomeranz?
  11. Only Kimmi approves. Did I just say that?
  12. He's a closer, not a reliever, Moon. Closers have their own union and PR department, didn't you know?
  13. That's why if we win the Big One this year, this organization needs to do some soul searching. How to set up for success over next several years and not just 2019. At some point, we'll have to reset our payroll structure. Soon to be expensive players coming due for free agency while we have high sticker price players already under long term contracts.
  14. Or Tampa Bay?
  15. Rank relievers for the playoffs as of today. I don't want Kelly. 2nd coming of Clay B. Brasier, Thornburg, Barnes, Hembree, Johnson, Vector, Poyner, Wright, Workman, Scott, Eavoldi. Who is 1-7?
  16. Basically anyone can see the talent in Kimbrel two years ago. It's just money and players to get him. Can we identify next great closer? Isn't that what good baseball people are able to do? Who saw Brasier coming this year after spending several years away from MLB? Bonus to the scout that saw him overseas.
  17. If we win the World Series, Sox can pretty much do anything and fans will be okay with it. What am I saying? Explore trades. Trade out some expensive players for younger talent. Again start at $239M, subtract Hanley ($22M), Pom ($9M), Kelly ($3.8M), add $9M for additonal space on Luxury Tax, Kimbrel ($13M) for total of approximately $57M to sign a closer (could be Kimbrel) and cover arbitration raises. Personally I'd go for another World Championship and keep the payroll slightly under the second tier penalty.
  18. Maybe other than Xander and Betts, does anyone else need rest?
  19. Congrats to the team for winning 100 games. Unless you're 72 and older, you've never seen it. Poor Ynakees. 90-56 with 16 freakin' games to go. I would have taken that for the Sox at beginning of the season. 90-56 with 16 games left. Oh by the way, you're 10 games back. Just goes to show how good this season has been for the Sox. Scary thing is both Sale and E Rod has missed several starts. Also I predicted 93-96 (max) wins. No freakin way I saw 100 win season. And it's not over yet.
  20. Price did not put gun to anyone's head to get his 7 year, $210M deal. Just saying. On the heels of 2 last place finishes and essentially in his first full season coming up as President of baseball operations, DD did what he thought he had to do. Overpaid? Sure but it's always easier after the fact to evaluate the money given out. Unless someone here can predict the future, you have no case against the signing. Some of you must be able to predict the highs and lows of stock market. How many millionaires on this board? Sox will extend the Division champion streak to all time best 3 this year. I'm happy Price is on the team. Now let's talk about Pablo.
  21. Is it possible that Devers' power numbers will explode as Ramirez' has? Devers looks to be more of traditional power hitter than Ramirez. I think we just live with him. Give him occasional time off when he's slumping. Devers has four more years to get to age 25.
  22. Question for Kimmi We can shed $47M from our payroll by letting go Hanley (done), Kimbrel, Pom and Kelly. Throw in additional $9M in cap increase. We have Sale, Price, Porcello and E Rod. #5 options are Wright, Johnson and Valazquez. Do we have enough talent to get to the 2019 trade deadline as a contender and then look for additional reinforcement?
  23. You got it. There's a team option at $13.5M. Only FA pitchers are Kelly, Kimbrel and Pom.
  24. Ben and Theo definitely have your Aretha.
