  1. Not that I'm hoping but I think there's a possibility exists Pedroia will retire if he has another set back in spring training. No matter what anyone is saying, I'll believe it when I see him on the field. That will free up $13M+.
  2. According to Cot's, Sox still has $8.4M before going over the ultimate hell limit of $246M. That's plenty of money for DD to do what he did last summer. We're good to go. My thought is if we fail this year, it won't be the bullpen that will derail us.
  3. Moon, you don't ever have to apologize for being a homer. I think you keep it pretty real. Same people were predicting imminent demise during the pennant stretch last year. You simply listed the upsides.
  4. Nah, I'd be little more subtle than that....
  5. Logic I read was he was pitching so poorly no way he was cheating.
  6. Only problem I see is me thinks Buch wants to pitch and not sure if he would see an opportunity with the Sox.
  7. First of all, our catching situation is fine in the context of we don't need any offense from that position. But all of you are STUPID thinking somehow Leon and Vazquez are some magicians behind the plate. Both Sale and Price were elite pitchers BEFORE they came to Boston. Who caught them? Certainly not Leon and Vazquez. Some of you make Sandy out to be the greatest defensive catcher in this century. You're joke if you think that. We don't need to fix our catching position because we are very strong at other positions. Move on.
  8. That's the dumbest thing you've ever said Moon. You are telling me that Rays going into Yankee stadium should get 1/162 of YES TV revenue each time Rays play the Yankees on the road? A TV contract based on viewership of NY city? And why in the f*** would Yankees give away 50% of gate to Rays when Yankees play in the stadium in a city with population approaching 10M people? If I'm the Rays, I would play all 162 games on the road. I'm pretty sure Mr S didn't sign up for that stupid arrangement.
  9. Color me skeptical when it comes to resetting. I don't think we'll get below the tax line. But we still should show some fiscal constraint. On one hand we complain about lack of farm, but we're quick to propose trading away young talent. Farm system exists solely for the pleasure of major league team, I get it. Sox are now in a different space. DD took the job on the heels of two last place finishes. He had one mandate and that was to do whatever it takes to get the team out of the gutter. He over spent on Price. He traded away valuable pieces to shore up the roster, Kimbrel and Pom comes to mind. 3 straight division titles and 1 world series championship. Let that sink in. I agree with Moon in that we probably paid too much for Price, gave away too much talent for both Kimbrel and Pom. But those moves I think had to be made. But now? I'm just opposed to trading away young players anymore. Especially our top ten prospects.
  10. Why trade away Chavis? Won't we need a 1B in 2020?
  11. Moon, just stop and move on. "Hide profits legally".....you mean by legit expenses? You're talking non sense. "Hiding profts legally = less profit" JBJ has tendency to hide his batting average legally by getting less hits. Got it.
  12. Hopefully he meant all businesses want to keep their tax liability to minimum, legally.
  13. I live in Midwest. Only blow back I get for being a Red Sox fan is team's geographical association with the Patriots. Pretty much everyone hates Patriots outside of New England. I always have to explain I became a Sox fan back in 1967 and I have never been a Patriots fan. I don't dislike the team like so many do. Just not a fan.
  14. Over the next three years, Yankees will have 9,12 and 13 arbitration eligible players. They are no different than the Sox. Their payroll will expand. Can we just quit bickering with the lone Yankee fan on this board? They are the greatest team ever assembled on paper. I will concede. As you profoundly stated, it's not like our closer is going to blow every game he enters. Teams with lead going into ninth inning usually wins.
  15. Sorry but I'll put my faith in Cora's decision to go with Vaz during the playoffs as opposed to what the fans think.
  16. Machado, personality aside, is a nice player. He's averaged around 36 homers over the past four years. But does his stats warrant a 10 year $300M deal? I just don't see it. What's his upside? Some players mature early and play well in early years. That does not mean they will continue to ascend. On positional side, I see Trout and Betts deserving that kind of money. Not to say I'd pay for it. And can they really get that much better over the next ten years? I seriously doubt it.
  17. Excitement? Hell we signed Eovaldi and Pearce. That was pretty exciting. I have good feeling about those two.
  18. This offer ($25M average annual value) for Machado, who is 26 and has a career .905 OPS, represents a continued issue with free agency. Ownership is showing an unwillingness to pay the top free agents what they deserve for a second straight year. Per Christopher Smith at MasaLive Do sportswriters take Economics class? Market value is where buyer and seller agrees to a price. It DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK YOUR HOUSE IS WORTH. IT ONLY MATTERS WHAT BUYERS ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR YOUR HOUSE. What you deserve has nothing to do with what you may get.
  19. I want both JD and Sale to remain with the Sox. That said, JD was only a money transaction. He gave us what we paid for. Sale in my opinion is little different. We gave up Moncada (and don't forget the matching fee that we paid for him) and Kopech. It's difficult for me to see DD simply letting Sale walk away. I would argue that DD has more vested in Sale than JD.
  20. Yep...Perhaps Rays ownership has it right.
  21. I'm not sure if there's a collusion. It's more like Economics 101. 10 year, $350M deals are very risky. Think what we can buy with Pablo's $17M.
  22. I guess you missed the part where I said $40M over the tax limit becomes the HARD CAP for the Sox. Pay perpetual $23M penalty until new CBA comes into play. Even at $40M above the limit, we can't keep everyone.
  23. "Then, maybe in 2021, we go back to $39M over and fill the biggest gaps." What to reset again in 3 years?
  24. I doubt Henry is going to destroy a contending team for money he can afford.
