  1. Staying Patient with Bobby Dalbec http://https://www.pitcherlist.com/staying-patient-with-bobby-dalbec/ Here's a great read on Dalbec hitting analytics. Compares it to why Trout is so successful. Must read. Lets try it again.

  3. Bloom stole Arroyo for nothing, and Red Sox are better for it http://https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/chaim-bloom-stole-christian-arroyo-nothing-and-red-sox-are-reaping-reward Very good read on Arroyo..... (I hear Bloom's password is Master-Thief)
  4. Yep, I'm talking crazy when it comes to getting a #1, not very realistic and probably not what the Sox brass is thinking. Syndergard is very intriguing. I'd be happy if Whitlock becomes a starter. I think he has something intangible to go with his stuff.
  5. He's my favorite and I don't want to show bias. Not sure why, but I love watching him pitch.
  6. I'd like to see this: Moon 1. Arroyo 2B 1 yr/$581.5K A1-A3 (22-24) age 26 2. Verdugo LF 1 yr/$649.5K A1-A3 (22-24) age 25 3. JD DH 5 yr/$110M (18-22) age 33 4. Bogey SS 6 y/$120M (20-25)+26 opt (opt out after 22) age 28 5. Devers 3B 1 yr/$4.575M (21) A2-A3 (22-23) age 24 6. Renfroe RF 1yr/$3.1M (21) A3 22 age 29 7. Vaz C 3yr/13.55M (19-21) 22 opt age 30 8. Dalbec 1B $575K, A1-A3, (22-24) age 26 9. Hernandez CF 2yr/$14M (21-22) age 29 Biggest bargain, Verdugo (25). Arroyo has chance to make the 'core group' going forward. As Cora said, he was 1st round draft pick because someone saw talent in him. Dalbec (26), will be under team control for 5 mores years (22-26) Arroyo (26) and Verdugo (25) with 3 more years of team control. Devers (24) with two more years of team control via arbitrations. Xander (28) under team control for another 5 years if he does not opt out (chances are Sox extend with better contract). Kike (29) and Renfroe (29) will return for 2022 season. Vaz (30) and JD (33) will return for 2022 season. Some say JD has an opt out after 21. Some improvements can be had but this is pretty good hitting team.
  7. We won last night with pen guys Sawamura, Workman (struggled), J Taylor and Whitlock. Darwinzon, Ottavino and Barnes should be available tonight. Ranking based on my eyes only 1 Barnes 2 Taylor 3 Ottavino 4 Sawamura (glad his hip issue wasn't serious) 5 Darwinzon 6 Whitlock
  8. Our rotation is made up of better than average pitchers but I don't see a shut down guy on a consistent basis. They are what they are. Maybe the best example is Eovaldi. Announcers go on and on about his 'heater' but he does not generate swing and miss with it, or it seems. Our guys are hittable. This is why you and I agree on signing a #1 and slotting Chris Sale as our #2 guy.
  9. It was good to see Whitlock go 8/9th innings. I mentioned that in an article he was working on his slider. He's beginning to use it. I just enjoy watching him pitch.
  10. I like it.... We're now limiting Santana's at bats. Marwin really does a nice job defensively. He's needed. He can play everywhere, but we don't need a duplicate.
  11. 0-5 night bailed out by ss throwing error...ugh Maybe we now have our second baseman.....I think I rather see him get the 5 at bats.
  12. I'll take seventh year of service of a player, albeit possibility for higher compensation than to have six years and having to offer another 5 year deal for his past performance. You can always trade him the summer of year 6. There will be takers knowing the guy is on the hook for another year. This board now wants nothing to do with seventh year team control due to 4 arbitrations? Unreal.
  13. No one has responded to my comment about the Sox losing a year's control if a player is called up TODAY. They can not accrue one year of service time this year any longer. Thus if Duran is called up, he'll be here for 2021,2022,2023,2024,2025,2026 and 2027. Only issue is if they can qualify for four years of arbitration. Now that becomes a money issue and not player control issue. That's how I understand the rule.
  14. Maybe he can pitch. At least scared the hell out of hitters.
  15. I see that in 2018, we won game 1, 8-4. We won game 2, 4-2 (D Price got the win), We won game 4 9-6. We won game 5 5-1 (D Price got the win #1). Chris Sale coming back 100% would change the equation for 2021.
  16. If I own the Sox, I'd say we don't have the top line pitching to win the world series. As we've seen, good pitching stops good hitting. Obviously we're competitive. I'd love to identify top 3 pitchers for each of 5 contenders in American League to see how they would fare against each other. Our top 3 if everyone was pitching to potential would be E Rod, Eovaldi and Richards. This would appear to mirror high school tennis match from my state (excluding two doubles teams). I think we would be in trouble in a one, winner take it all game. I would not be comfortable in a five or seven game series either. It's very possible they can outperform expectations but I'm not seeing it. Then it goes back to are we content in 2021 just to get into the playoffs and pull the USA hockey team miracle? Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased with the progress the team has made.
  17. I believe you're missing the calculation of service time. 172 days = 1 year of service time, usually there are 187 days in baseball season. If Duran gets called up today (assuming September 30th is the last day of baseball season), he can only accrue 21+30+31+31+30 = 143 days of service time in 2021. Thus his six year team control will not start until 2022. I think you're getting confused with those players having 4 years of arbitration in 6 years opposed to normal 3 years. Top 20% or 30% of players accruing most days this year with less than 172 days will be eligible for 4 years of arbitration. Tell me I'm all wet.
  18. Just got home...4 hits, Santana Leading off.....I'm out.
  19. MLB.com is showing Syracuse vs Worcester in Education Day matinee...first ever. Announcer on Cordero, "he's hitting .405 so that means he gets a hit 40% of the time". Announcer is explaining everything about baseball. Distance between bags, concept of strike zone, on and on so forth, good stuff. Imagine Mr. Rogers speaking..... Duran gets called out on third strike, Marcus Wilson homers, Cordero bunts for a hit away from the shift, Chavis a base hit to left field, OF COURSE CORDERO GETS CAUGHT BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD AND IS THROWN OUT. "Jeter Downs is 23 years old, I know many of you think that's old, but he's actually young for baseball"....that maybe the best line..... Funny stuff.....
  20. For us old timers, are we headed for 1968? You know, one guy hitting over .300 in AL?
  21. Throw in the obligatory Tommy John for pitchers and well you know.....yeah it's a long shot.
  22. Wischowski is 22, not a teenager. Gambrell is 23, not a teenager. De La Rosa is 19, a teenager. Valedz is 19, a teenager. You and I agree on many things, especially when it comes to DD's contribution. I don't want to pick a fight with you. Just a FYI.
  23. Very good article on Josh Winckowski in MassLive (subscription only). Interesting point about him changing his attitude going from pacing himself throwing fastball to throw as hard as he can mentally. He initially did it just to see how fast he can throw. He's touching 97 now and thinks he can go 7 innings maxing out on his fastball. He's also all about attacking the strike zone, so we have another pitcher that's not nibbling outside the zone. That's good news. He also worked out to build his body last year due to not having a baseball season. It's interesting you hear many athletes having done so during COVID. For pitchers like him, it may end of being more beneficial having taken the year off. It's not the year of the car, it's how many miles you have on it. I say we got rid of Beni to purchase Renfroe. And we got some lottery tickets in return. If you don't play, you can't win.
  24. Yep, he always wanted to pitch with bases full. Walking was part of his strategy.
  25. The guy hits 96-97 with his fastball and 93 on a splitter. Not bad for a 33 year old.
