  1. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/05/27/sports/how-red-sox-reliever-garrett-whitlock-is-making-necessary-adjustments-hitters/ Very good article on Whitlock...working on his slider... For Whitlock, while his changeup-sinker-four-seamer mix is impressive, in order for him to take that next leap they know he will need another pitch. Despite working at different speeds, his changeup and sinker have the same arm-side run. As a result, big league hitters can sit on a location but still adjust to velocity. So, Whitlock has been working on a slider, just to give hitters a different look on a pitch that, ideally, runs in an opposite direction. In addition to direction, Whitlock is trying to adjust the speed of his slider. This is type of information I wish more writers would write about....
  2. Grossman of Tigers with 2 out, 2 run walk off homer in bottom of tenth to defeat the Yankees 3-2. Yankees go 0-10 with RISP, scoring only 2 runs on 11 hits.. G Cole only goes 6 innings due to throwing 103 pitches. Good day for the Sox. Sox game called, 5-2 win.
  3. Just checking out radar.....it's solid rain until 4:30 am (there's no break in weather), rain getting stronger around 1:30 am....I say 4:30am only because the radar only projects out 6 hours. Do they want ME to make the decision? They don't have to pay me either. PS. checking out the hourly projection, 100% rain until 8 am, then drops to 97%, steadily drops to 40% by 4 pm. Game 2.
  4. "Game Delayed Due to Weather" ...I don't think so..."Game Delayed Due to Dangerous Field Conditions" People, I'm muti tasking...lots of non-coherent s*** coming out of my typewriter.
  5. If the capacity was limited to 12 1/2%, they could have moved it to Miami.......
  6. Looks like they won't stop the game until someone turns his knees due to field conditions. Players union has nothing to say in this? I'd be pissed if Devers gets hurt.
  7. Trashing seems harsh.....I think he would be very good utility player. I don't see him as a core group guy. He's holding spot for Duran in CF and maybe Downs at 2B. I also think Marwin gets a big time pass from Cora. He's hitting .199. Not very impressive. He's another valuable utility player. I'm also willing to admit when I'm wrong. I usually use reverse psychology hoping they make me eat my words. I was not a fan, AT ALL, of Matt Barnes before 2021. He's now my hero.
  8. Based on Cora, I was expecting the better version of past Kike....
  9. Can the game be called due to unplayable conditions?
  10. let me rephrase, I don't think he's a leadoff hitter but I've been told lineup really doesn't matter......I grew up thinking you put your best hitter, 3rd but apparently that's not the strongest spot in batting order....
  11. Ok. let's call the game....field's too freaking wet....
  12. Nice piece of hitting by Kike...second and third, no one out, pop out to 1B....to me he sucks
  13. I doubt Bloom would trade someone like Downs. Not in his DNA. I can see him exchanging one young player for another as you said if the player is 'blocked'.
  14. You know I maybe a 6 handicapper at local municipal golf playing white tees but put me on a country club course with water and sand and I'm shooting in low 90's. My golf game doesn't travel. Casas maybe playing in AA, but my guess is his skill set will travel all the way to major leagues. You've all seen it.
  15. Crap....looks like rain for 3 straight days...not good with 100% capacity allowed this weekend...bummer for the fans...
  16. My bad...sounds like they need a new GM.
  17. Boston weather Looks like 60% chance of rain at 7 pm and gets worse. Probably will be postponed. I can't handle another night without Sox baseball. I don't need back to back days off.
  18. Yeah, I thought his contract was structured much like Sale's.
  19. Here you go Kimmi PLAYERS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS 2021 Tax Payroll M. Betts 40 162 26 40 15 0 5 17 25 30 5 2 .247 .359 .432 .792 $30, 416, 667 28 years old $365M commitment Verdugo 46 171 31 50 8 1 6 20 15 23 3 0 .292 .353 .456 .809 $ 649,500 25 years old Price $15,000,000 Red Sox picking up $16,000,000
  20. Yep on Betts... Trout is one superstar in a horrible position. Because of his contract, Angels can't get plethora of help elsewhere. It's kind of sad, yeah I know he makes tons of money. He's playing for money. His team has no chance to make the playoffs. How was your day today, honey? We suck. I'm not having any fun. I can't even remember the second baseman that went to play for Seattle for big contract. How did that workout? Is he relevant at all today?
  21. Rays win again. You have to give them credit. Luxury tax payroll of $83M. Highest paid player makes $8.9M, second highest $6.5M, third highest $4.0M. Is their payroll low due to lack of revenue? Is their attendance low due to lack of 'star' names? It will be interesting to watch Bloom navigate Red Sox player management. I would think he did couple of back flips when told payroll budget was near the luxury tax but you can go over it from time to time. Couple of roundoffs for that bit of news.
  22. I would at least be sergeant at arms for Dalbec fan club. That said, if we have chance to make the playoffs, I'm all for doing what's necessary (except trading big prospect for a rental). If he needs to be platooned, so be it.
  23. Per MassLive The Red Sox optioned outfielder Franchy Cordero to Triple-A Worcester after Wednesday’s game, the team announced Thursday morning. Boston will need to make a corresponding roster move before Friday’s series opener against the Marlins. Cordero, who came over from the Royals in the Andrew Benintendi trade in February, has hit .179 (17-for-95) with one homer, six doubles and a .501 OPS in 34 games with the Red Sox this season. The 26-year-old has only started four of the club’s last 11 games, so the move is likely to get him more regular at-bats in the minors. Position player seems unlikely. They just sent down Chavis. Cora saying he needs work. Probably a pitcher coming up.
  24. Thanks...I did not know about the one year no trade rule...
  25. I'm with you on him....I've read some good stuff on him. Another Yankee.....
