1. I freaking pass on Hosmer. His cash payout decreases after 2022 but his AAV is $18M. His OPS is barely .710. And we'd be stuck with his contract through 2025. You take Hosmer's $18M plus Richards' $10M......You can sign a freakin' ace for 2022-2025.
2. This is a blow for the draft class this year if it does come to fruition. I understand the logic here from the Red Sox to call Fabian’s bluff here and dare him to go back to school, basically requiring him to be a no-doubt first rounder next year to out-earn what is likely an offer somewhere in the $2.5 million range. And to be clear, they have until August 1 to come to a deal. This report from Gammons is not officially closing the door on a deal being had. So, difference of $500K ($3M vs $2.5M).....top single tax bracket is 37%. So now you're talking about $315K. That's before agent gets piece of that pie. He's risking a lot. Not smart thing to do in my mind.
3. I agree with you Moon. Just because a pitcher gave the offensively proficient Sox a chance to win does not mean that the pitcher pitched well. We're fortunate we can score runs....
4. Record vs AL East 27-13 10-3 Yankees 7-4 Jays 6-4 Orioles 4-2 Rays Run Differential +92 Rays +86 Jays +68 Sox We must be winning close games..... We've had a good season.
5. This was more for the poster that thought Houck would struggle second time around the lineup. Not sure Houck would do any worse than Perez.
6. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 11h Over his last 8 starts Perez is averaging 3.2 IP with a 6.23 ERA and batters are hitting .362/.417/.608 off of him. For the season the second time through a lineup opponents are hitting .326 with a .391 OBP. His grip on a starting spot seems tenuous. I posted this earlier.
7. http://https://www.overthemonster.com/2021/7/26/22594020/boston-red-sox-trade-rumors-carlos-santana-trade-target-kansas-city-royals Red Sox Trade Target: Carlos Santana The Royals first baseman could be the best option to shore up this desolate position for Boston. What would Royals want?
8. Good point.
9. He may be the one replaced by Sale. Richards probably has slight edge in terms of having a better upside than Perez although both can suck equally.
10. Here's a message from Cora to our younger players. “The last two days is a great example that contact matters. Contact matters,” Cora said. “Yeah, we live with strikeouts and all that. But there’s certain at-bats that you have to make sure you put the ball in play and good things happen. They did it yesterday and we did it today.”
11. We may need an infielder while Arroyo, Marwin and Santana are on the IL. Reports are that they're not coming back any time soon.
12. Looks to me like we need a middle infielder rather quickly. It was reported that Marwin, Santana and Arroyo are not expected to return any time soon. Sox maybe forced to bring up Downs. Sorry for hogging the board......
13. AL East Contenders-Last 10 days 7-3 Rays 6-4 Sox 5-5 Yankees 5-5 Jays I like to keep tab on this to see how the teams are doing recently. For the Yankees and Jays, not making up ground is troublesome for them. They may eventually run out of time.
14. Cordero Report Card Saturday 0-1 with 2 walks Sunday 1-3 with a key hit in the 8th inning.
15. LOS ANGELES -- After being out of the lineup for seven consecutive games, the Dodgers placed All-Star outfielder Mookie Betts on the 10-day injured list with right hip inflammation on Sunday. It's great that the Dodgers have the luxury of winning without him.
16. Alright, for pitching geniuses on this board. What's more taxing on the arm? Two consecutive one inning outings followed by rest day or one two innings stint followed by 2 days rest? I'm curious because is Whitlock best utilized as he is now or should he replace Ottavino for the 8th inning duty?
17. He wasn't very funny in a movie he was featured in.
18. If he's healthy tomorrow and after his next start, I don't see any point in having him pitch any longer in the minors.
19. No way Darwinzon gets demoted. Sox sees him as able pitcher as long as he starts a clean inning so he can walk 2 batters and strike out 3. Sawamura is very cheap, cost control guy for the Sox. Two years plus club option. I doubt he goes unless there's a good return. Our cost for both Richards and Perez is their paychecks. We can trade them for PTBNL. Not sure if we get much for them other than taking on their salaries.
20. Sale in his third minor league start went for 64 pitches...his fastball toping out at 96 MPH (it hit 98 MPH). I wonder what the targeted goal is in terms of pitch count before he's up with the Sox?
21. Yankees go up in flames for crushing loss to Red Sox New York Post (I like their headlines)
22. Red Sox One Hit by GermAn of the Yankees...
23. The Guardians Finally Protect Lead vs Invading Rays.
24. Rays down 2-3 now in the 8th...fiy
25. Unfreaking believable....Captain Xander with clutch sac fly
