  1. Not one person commented on my previous avatar, Sandoval Car Lot....
  2. "They will spend, spend, spend, again." Moon G Cole just gave up 4 runs in bottom of 1st....yep, keep thinking you're in the playoffs.
  3. For Scherzer, it's beginning look like a non rental.
  4. I'm working from a perspective of payroll budget of $230M. Penalty of 42.5% in third year costs us $8.5M, which to me is insignificant for the Sox ownership. Hopefully we'll be drafting post 25th in future years so not sure I'm going to get too excited about losing draft pick. This is where Bloom excels I think, finding little nuggets.
  5. I'm embarrassed but I have no idea who Berrios is.
  6. Which begs the question, why are we so stingy with them when it comes to trading them to acquire proven talent?
  7. Suppose we're able to land Scherzer without much damage to our minor league system. Competitiveness of a player is difficult to measure. It's like 'porn', I know it's bad analogy. You know it when you see it. Scherzer types exudes confidence, similar to our Chris Sale. Then you have Richards. He may have lost his future earnings with his little outburst. Question becomes this for me...are we better off combining the salaries of Richards ($10M), Perez ($5M), Andriese ($1.2M) and even E Rod ($8.3) and getting a Scherzer or do we wait and hope to develop a Scherzer and spread the risk among several starters as we did this year? How long do we wait? Posters here at different times were excited for Groome at one point. It's been a journey for him and the outcome is still uncertain. Our top two starters right now came via a trade, Sale and Eovaldi. We gave up some talent. (I wish we could have kept Kopech). I think we're moving in the right direction with young arms such as Seabold (25), Mata (22), Bello (22), Ramirez (20), Groome (22), Song(24) and Ward (24), not to mention Whitlock (25), Houck (25), Darwinzon (24), Taylor (28) and Pivetta (28). I'm not asking Bloom to empty the pantry. Just part with little of it to get a bona fide ace.
  8. I meant for 2022.
  9. There are several veterans that may not be protected on 40 man roster. Richards Perez Andriese Ottavino Workman Plawecki Chavis Gonzalez Santana
  10. My guess is everyone wants to see Scherzer pitch tonight before the deal is finalized. He was scratched from last start due to some tricep tightness.
  11. New York Post The Yankees will be receiving more than Joey Gallo and Joely Rodriguez from the Rangers – Texas also is paying both players’ salaries the rest of the season, The Post has learned. That is not insignificant, as the Yankees’ aim clearly is to remain under the $210 million luxury tax threshold and they were projected at about $206 million before this deal. For purposes of the tax, Gallo would count about $2.3 million and Rodriguez $1.03 million. Interesting that apparently Yanks will NOT go over $210M.
  12. My guess is we do NOTHING.
  13. What do you do when your boss says hey go spend some 'money'?
  14. Hey my old favorite, how about Joey Votto? I always thought he'd be great in Sox uniform. Two more years of contract left at $44.5M. He'll solve our 1B problem until Casas is ready. Supporting a .889 OPS. What the hell, sign Kimbrel, Votto and Scherzer.....Yeah, I've had few beers.
  15. He doesn't think that's enough to beat NL West teams. He is also high on Houston and White Sox.
  16. I'd want to protect following prospects. Groome and Chavis enough? Casas 21 1B Duran 24 CF Houck 25 P Seabold 25 P Bello 22 P Mata 22 P IL Song 24 P Ward 24 P IL
  17. You better check with Moon first on that....
  18. Yankees up 3-1 bottom of 10th. Wander Franco .643 OPS. #1 prospect in majors. Bobby Dalbec, .647. Yeah, I know. One is shortstop and other is first baseman.
  19. July 28: Sale, Scherzer in the same rotation? Despite Scherzer's reported preference for West Coast teams, Red Sox ownership is encouraging a final push for the 37-year-old, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden (subscription required). The club is reported to be particularly motivated by the prospect of Scherzer backing up Chris Sale, who is nearing his return from Tommy John surgery, down the stretch. Thank God John Henry smells another championship.

  21. Jonathan Schoop, Tigers 1B/2B With 17 home runs and a .799 OPS, Schoop is having a solid offensive season for the rebuilding Tigers. He’s on a good contract -- he’s owed less than $2 million this season -- and will be a free agent at the end of the season. Schoop could opt to sign an extension to stay in Detroit, but if those talks stall, he can add some pop to a contender in need of a lineup boost. Potential landing spots: Mariners, Red Sox, White Sox cheap addition, can play both 1B and 2B
  22. Hey he may not be back for another 3 weeks....I'm not kidding. We have a serious situation here.
  23. We need an infielder to add to our current roster as Marwin, Arroyo and Santana are all out for extended period. Chavis just sucks. Our only other alternative is Kike at 2B. We can go JD, Verdugo and Renfroe in outfield but then who DH's against left handed pitching? Moon, you're good at this sort of thing. What do we do?
  24. 21-28 is now a small sample size? I though 2-4 would be small sample size. No matter not relevant.
  25. ECK is the best......
