  1. i think you're both wrong. He has not pitched like an ace this year, he's had good stretches but that's not what makes an ace. On the other hand, not having him in the playoff rotation is absurd.
  2. So you don't think a prediction on September 22 counts?
  3. I think it's pretty good. If you use the dropdown to look at previous years you can see it was correct for every cy young award from 2011-2015, except for Dallas Keuschel last year, who was a very close second according to the Cy predictor. In 2010 Felix Hernandez was an upset, but that was because he was so dominant that year they ignored wins and team finish altogether.
  4. Baseball reference gives splits by inning. Eck pitched in the 8th inning somewhere between 17 and 22 times each year.
  5. Season series doesn't matter for who makes the WC. If they are tied they will have a playoff.
  6. About 20 times a year from 88-93. Compared to 5 this year for Kimbrell
  7. I wouldn't give up anything more than Shaw for Archer. He gave up a lot of HRs this year, and he has been horrible at Fenway.
  8. The main thing holding Papi back is that he has a lot fewer at bats than the other contenders, a mixture of interleague and being 40 years old.
  9. I would say Porcello is a shoe in among starters. There's a few pitchers with similar stats except Porcello has more wins and quality starts and the others have more strikeouts. Wins definitely mean more than strikeouts. Britton definitely has a shot though, a 0.6 ERA and 0 blown saves is pretty impressive.
  10. I don't necessarily put all the blame on Farrell for the Wright injury, but how the red sox are doing has nothing to do with whether or not the criticism was deserved. Unless you're saying that this was all part of Farrell's plan.
  11. In my opinion Kelley should be on the roster. I wish Farrell would give Moncada some more opportunities. Hopefully they clinch early enough to see if he can be useful.
  12. 36-10 in 1 run games, that is insane.
  13. Exactly. They had the worst pitching staff in the league the first half of the year.
  14. Completely agree. I've always felt defense is more reliable than offense of pitching.
  15. I'd noticed his numbers as DH earlier this year as well, then realized those are essentially all against left handed pitchers and his numbers are pretty much in line with his numbers vs lefties. Your point is still valid in that he definitely doesn't do worse as a DH.
  16. I like him and think he has a good future, but he does have trouble late in games. He was looking like toast by the 6th yesterday.
  17. I hope he doesn't come back. I think a big part of why he's been this good is because he "knew" it was his last year. I also don't think he will be able to turn down a $25+ million offer. Whether he needs/wants the money or not it's hard for him not to consider what he could do with it, especially for someone who didn't have a lot of money growing up. It's such a great story for him to end with a season like this one.
  18. It hindsight it is easy to say he shouldn't have pitched to Ortiz, but he wasn't well over 100 pitches, that was his 101st, which is a pretty low number for him.
  19. I'm on the fence about trading him. I think it's likely that the sox could get another team to take his contract, but not sure they would actually get anything in return. In addition it seems that Hanley often has an adjustment period that results in a slightly down year whenever he switches teams, will that reduce his value in a trade?
  20. Did you post this in every thread? I'll say it again here, Girardi could not have taken Layne out one batter earlier. He just came in and is required to face one batter.
  21. I'm not saying Hill was the best choice, but Layne had to face at least one batter according to MLB rules.
  22. I was simply debating the point that without a miraculous recovery by Mookie the season is history. I did not mean to imply that there was nothing Betts could have done to help them win one of the 5 one run losses.
  23. I'm not sure I'd anoint Chris Young one MLB's best bats vs LHP. He's been great in his 60 ABs this year, and pretty good last year, but some bad years too.
  24. Since the sox are 9-6 over those 15 games and can't be that big of a difference.
  25. You're seriously asking why I would doubt a random person posting something on twitter that was not mentioned anywhere in the real news?
