  1. A couple years ago someone on the BDC forum started a thread on 'what is your favorite stat about this team'? I'd like to pose that question for this team. Something I was thinking about today is Xander Bogaerts, at .349/.404/.513 .917 OPS is only the 3rd best hitter on the team add to that Travis Shaw, at .306/.372/.529 .902 OPS is 4th What else you got?
  2. I'd say at 30 it becomes espn mlb home page material. 35 sounds like a good point for it to be at least national sports news. I don't know how many 28 or 29 game hit streaks there have been, but there have been about 50 of 30 or more. I would guess there are around 10-20 29 gamers and 10-20 28 gamers. To put it in perspective of other baseball rarities, his streak is far more rare than a no-hitter or hitting for the cycle (about 300 each). 5 more games and he is in perfect game territory (23 total).
  3. For now I'm looking at the other Dimaggio hit streak. One more week and he has the red sox record. It is crazy to think that as good as this streak again, he has to do the whole thing over starting today to tie Joe D.
  4. I was comparing some numbers on the incredible month of May the team is having. OPS this month is 0.908 Since the beginning of 2013 the highest OPS by any team in one month was 0.858, that was the RedSox in September of 2013. Other than that the highest is 0.838. JBJ 1.281 OPS this month Since the beginning of 2013, 3 players have had a single month with an OPS higher than that (minimum 75 PA). Those 3 are Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, and Edwin Encarcion.
  5. I agree he should be in the top part of the order. My point was even 9th would be better than 7th because he would be harder to pitch around.
  6. Bradley is now leading the AL in Avg, OPS and Triples, 3rd in RBI. Today's game really showed that he needs to be moved in the order. 7th is the worst place for him. 3 walks today. At least put him back to 9th so he has Betts hitting after him.
  7. No surprise on Smith, but when did Holt suffer a concussion?
  8. We could, but there are several players I wouldn't want to give up to do that (Bradley,Boegarts,Betts)
  9. In my opinion any team trading for Trout would be doing it to win now at the expense of the future, since you would have to mortgage the farm to do it. I don't want the redsox doing that. If the Cubs had the chips to do it, they should. Although they could then turn around and trade him next year to get that future back.
  10. I don't think we can compare Bradley to Castillo. Bradley had a proven track record of good hitting in the minors. BTW, I knew that Bradley had a great arm, but I just read he's been clocked at over 100 MPH.
  11. I agree that all star voting is about name recognition, but I hope that gets a little better now that the online ballot has sortable stats with it. It seems to me that the manager choices are largely based on performance this year.
  12. How are Betts amd Bradley grouped together. Bradley is neck and neck with Trout for the best OF in the league. Bogaerts and Bradley would both need a serious slump to not be all stars.
  13. Can anyone tell me why this post got moved to the relative anonymity of the general baseball forum? It was about which redsox players get in the all star game. It seems as least as relevant to the redsox as whether or not Schilling gets in the hall of fame (not to point fingers). Would it have helped if it had redsox in the title, or if it was by someone with more posts? Don't worry, I'm not going to be 'one of those posters', it's just something I was really interested in and seemed to generate a lot of responses. It would probably have gotten even more popular as the all star game gets closer if it wasn't moved.
  14. My hope is he gets the streak up to 30+ games at which point he may be well enough known to get the votes.
  15. Agreed. If he can keep the OPS above .650 I'm happy.
  16. Who will get voted in ahead of JBJ besides Trout?
  17. I'm not big on watching the all star game, but it's fun to see how many sox get selected to the team. With the way the offense is it could be a big number this year. STARTERS: Starters is a bit of a crap shoot as fans often vote for names over stats, plus there's the KC fiasco from last year, but I can see a few starters from Boston. Papi is a shoe in Not a lot of big name SS so Xander has a good chance Bradley definitely should be a starter, if he keeps the streak going his name could become more well known. BENCH: Shaw should be on the team even with all the talent at 3B Close, but needs to turn it on: Pedroia and Hanley are playing well but there are a lot of good options at 2B and 1B so they would both need to have a big month to make it. Betts has been struggling a bit, but if he puts up numbers like he had in June last year he has an outside chance. PITCHERS: Wright probably has the best chance, but he's on the edge Price has a solid lead in strikeouts, but the ERA needs to come way down for him to be considered Kimbrell has a lot of competition. What does everyone else think?
  18. You're right, it's hard to demote anybody. Another option is move him back to 9th. He gets less at bats, but it should prevent IBBs.
  19. Farrell needs to find a better lineup spot for JBJ. I'm all for going with what works, but I'd hate to see the hitting streak end because Bradley was walked 4 times.
  20. How about in the playoffs when they intentionally walked Nomar and O'Leary followed it with a homer. Twice in the same game, one a GS. One of my favorite playoff moments.
  21. At this point, barring any real confirmation on PED use I think Papi is a first ballot hall of famer, and by a wide margin.
  22. Agreed. He had a tough start, but has been great at what they got him for, bashing LHP, especially at home. He had to play today for the DH, that HR was gravy.
  23. Was that sarcastic posted after the home run, or foot in mouth posted just before the homerun?
  24. did you just reply making fun of yourself? Nice!
  25. Stephen Wright true to form. Bad first inning, then lights out for 3. Let's score some more runs.
