  1. IMO @$31M Price was going to be overpaid no matter what he did last year. That being said I wasn't terribly disappointed in last year's regular season performance. Of course his post season game is another story.
  2. So if a player has better stats in 'late and close' situations than in normal AB's can we call him "Clutch"?
  3. Bad baseball, boredom and three bad announcers will do that.
  4. I've got to think that there was some alcohol involved in posting that. :-)
  5. Definitely trackable, "important" from a historical sense (I guess) but in terms of the game it's like all stats in that it's relatively meaningless. And if you believe all that I have a bridge to sell you.
  6. I don't see where she brings anything to the booth, but at least she fits in with the other two.
  7. I don't want to say anything, but JBJ makes that play.
  8. OMG I hate these Sunday Night games. Not only do they go until nearly midnight, those three in the booth are useless.
  9. Hanley is living in the past. He thinks he's still 23.
  10. JBJ bails Pom out... as best he can.
  11. I've been schooled to believe that statistically a player cannot turn it up a notch in any situation, and now I see statistics for "late and close". I'm so confused.
  12. Call me cynical, but I see what Price is saying is nothing more than spin. What I'm hearing is this. "I love the guys in the clubhouse. It's the rest of you suckers that I hate. The fans, the media, all you f***ers. I can't wait to get out of this Godforsaken city. 2018 can't come soon enough for me." He sees himself as a victim in Boston. A victim of the media, the fans, everyone. That's not going to change until he starts to pitch better and as long as he maintains that attitude the chances of his pitching better are pretty slim. This ball is in your court now David. If you want respect in Boston, earn it. If you can't earn it then don't expect to get it just based on your history.
  13. I agree, but the media seems incapable of doing that.
  14. I've been waiting for that shoe to drop ever since those two came up. Ugh. While JBJ would bring a better return, we don't have an adequate long term replacement for him. I see the catching position as being the one to have the shake-up because we're deeper there. We've got Swihart in Pawtucket who, along with some other lesser players, could net us someone decent. Or if forced to part with Vaz or Leon, Swihart could step up as our backup catcher. But maybe that's just wishful thinking since I've always been a big JBJ fan.
  15. Guilty as charged, your honor! And I need to remember not to post until I've had my coffee. :-)
  16. Fast-forwarding through June and most of July, it'll be interesting to see what happens at the trade deadline if the Sox are where they are now in the standings. Do we give up yet another prospect in a trade for a big bat?
  17. This is a really good point for those who thought Farrell went to the 'pen too early on Wednesday, making Kimbrel unavailable for Thursday. "Don't save a pitcher for tomorrow. It might rain tomorrow."
  18. Ugh.. That work schedule sucks donkeys. Kimbrel wasn't all over the plate last year. He was all over everything but the plate last year. His BB's are down but that doesn't begin to tell the story about how much better his control is this year than last. The reason his BB's weren't worse last year is because his breaking pitches were breaking so sharply that they were't strikes by the time they got to the plate. However, they looked so good on the way in that the hitters were swinging at them. When they started taking more pitches they got more BB's. This year he's throwing enough strikes to keep the hitters honest... they don't dare take borderline pitches because they're strikes this year. ...at least that's my observation.
  19. All three of those strikes were at the top of the zone and at about 99 mph. I was left wondering if Kimbrel had exposed a weakness in Judge's swing. Of course, a pitcher has to be able to throw 99 to exploit it!
  20. Now there's a definition I can live with. Not everything in baseball is explainable by statistics and we're probably better off not even trying to figure out why those things happen.
  21. Kimbrel found a spot that Judge can't hit. Judge can't catch up with 99 at the top of the zone & looked overmatched.
  22. My memory of his decline centers around his inability to hit a down-and-away curve ball in the 1986 playoffs against the Mets. The Mets pitchers owned him. 10 K's in 30 AB's.
  23. Yep. I learned a lot about pitching during that game.
  24. Thanks........... I think.
