  1. YES!! OMG, someone who thinks the same way I do about 1B! Another thing that was only touched on is the fact that having a good 1bman makes everyone in the infield better because they don't have the pressure of making that perfect throw. The more a player thinks about the mechanics of his throw the worse it's going to be and having a good 1B allows them to not think about the throw. IMO that's why you see so many pitchers make throwing errors to bases on what should be a routine play. They THINK about the throw... how far away they are, how hard to throw it... and it affects the throwing motion. I had a period of time when I was playing in the infield and "my" first baseman was 6'10" tall. I knew that all I had to do was come up with the ball and get it somewhere near him and he'd make the play. Consequently I made more good throws that year. Not only fewer errors, but more GOOD throws.
  2. You're welcome. I live to serve.
  3. Yes. By all means, let's move on from that other garbage and back to baseball. JBJ is what he is, an outstanding defensive player who is mercurial with the bat. I'm willing to live with the bad times with the bat to have his defense out there. Trading him would be foolish. Fortunately for me and those who feel this way, DD does too. He made it clear during the trades that JBJ wasn't an option for other teams to be getting. Thanks, Dave!
  4. No. I legitimately asked if this forum had an ignore feature. My question was answered and I thanked the person for giving me the information, which I thought was socially appropriate. At no time did I post that I was putting him on ignore. You inferred that from my post. I'm good with all of this. So let it go.
  5. Ya know.. I ran into a very similar situation just recently at a game I was at and one of the guys I was with started criticizing the coach for having a player running at a certain time. My response to him was that 'we love it... when it works'. And that's the way it is. We love it when a manager has a player steal successfully, especially if that runner later scores on a single. But when the runner gets thrown out it was a stupid move. It's that way with any gamble. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. All things considered I have no problem with JBJ trying to steal in that situation. I just wish it had worked out better.
  6. I am. I'm fine with it. My approach is to ignore what he's posting and I'm good with that. Why aren't you?
  7. I haven't asked anyone to take sides in this thing but I will post this again since some feel it's necessary to chime in on it. The bold part is his own words, Aug 5, 2016 at 4:04pm dannycater said: notin has been on my ass going back to BDC. I'm basically sick of his holier than thou attitude, including his famous love for Dan Nava, and how he somehow took credit for him jumping from a .180 to a .280 or something like that his second to last Sox season. Nava was at best a singles hitter who had albeit a nice '13 season, one that will be his highlight to his MLB career. Notin’s reply: Huh? On your ass? Unless you're andrewmitch or S5 (now s5dewey) or Schumpetr's Ghost, hardly the case. Really, my favorite target was andrewmitch, so much so I used to ask other people to quote my posts so he could read what I was saying despite him having me on ignore Also I feel really bad for not mentioning georom and ADG. And there was another Serial Whiner whose name began with "A" I used to ride a lot, but I stopped when I noticed every time he responded to me he was polite and even complimentary (Curse him!) I did stop harassing ADG when I realized he also lives in Chicago and statistical likelihood dictates him probably being bigger than me. Notin stalked me and others and then admitted it in a previous forum. Consequently I don't much like the guy. Do you blame me? I see the same pattern starting again I have no interest in it happening again. I have no control of what he sees or what he posts but I do have control over what I see, and I choose not to get drawn into this sickness again. If that makes me 'douchy', so be it.
  8. Yes. That's because he's not, to use his words "on your ass". Enjoy. I chose not to.
  9. Here's another thought for you on tickets. There's a site called Red Sox Replay that allows season ticket holders to sell their tickets on line. http://redsoxreplay.com/resale/redsox-events/ If you look around you may be able to find some decent seats at face value or slightly above. Also, I've had good luck with Ace tickets, and if you need to have them in Will Call there's an ACE close to the park. Try shopping on line first. When you find the exact seats you think you want listed go to Precise Seating. http://www.preciseseating.com/ When you enter the section, row, and seat #'s they will show you the exact view you will have. That's pretty important especially if you're getting tickets in the Grandstand section since MANY seats in the grandstand section have views of the field that are partially obstructed by posts. And don't take the Sox word that a seat doesn't have an obstructed view. They have a VERY LIBERAL definition of "obstructed" and it has to do only with being able to see the pitcher and the catcher. Or.. if you're really brave and want to maybe get some really good seats show up at the Landsdowne street ticket window. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/ticketing/gameday.jsp But beware. Tickets GO ON SALE 90 minutes before the game. That means you want to be there 2 1/2 to 3 hours early to get in line for good seats. The downside is that you're taking a chance that you might go away empty. If you're interested in this at all I'd recommend getting tickets reserved for one of the games and try to get seats on Landsdowne street for the second one. IF you are feeling brave and want to take that chance!
  10. ...and yet 25% of the time it happens! Would you like to tell that to us Red Sox fans after 2004?
  11. But you thought you'd post it here anyway, huh?
  12. Nobody is going to deny that a better team has a better chance of beating a weaker team. But they won't do it every time. In fact, the argument can be made that a WC team that wins the WS is the better team. That WC team has to have fought their way through more games against allegedly better opponents to get there. IMO the fact that a team that didn't win their division has won the WS 25% of the time (5 times in 20 years) indicates how relatively insignificant winning the division is. If you believe that the best teams have won their division then the results should be heavily weighted toward one of those division winners winning the WS, however, 25% of the time a WC team has won it - exactly the same percentage as if the winner had been drawn from a hat each year during those 20 years.
  13. Huh? The ALE is the toughest division in baseball. With playoff spots decided by a game or two a team that thinks it's a contender needs and will pay for a #3 pitcher that would be a #2 on a weaker team. And again, when/if the Sox make the playoffs they're going to want a solid #3 - so they have to pay for it.
  14. Leave it to Harmony to scour the internet to find something negative about a Red Sox player and then post it here. However, I still recommend reading the article. The first several paragraphs talks about the emphasis on launch angle and I (at least I! LOL) found it interesting. Your results may vary.
  15. Ya. That's the real downside to being in the AL East. Our #3 has to be better than the #3 of Oakland, the Phils, or the Reds, and we have to pay for it accordingly.
  16. I thought his CY award was an aberration, but I'll take it! I now expect 12-15 W's from him with a WHIP of ~1.2 - 1.3 and an ERA of
  17. "Tools" is an all-encompassing description, but have you tried Amazon? They have barbequeing tools, a Red Sox tool box, some really cheap all purpose tools, etc.
  18. Thanks. I'll go exploring to find it and change my online experience for the better.
  19. Would someone please help me? I don't need someone who wants to be "on my ass". Does this board have an 'Ignore" function?
  20. You're right. Where was my Thesauraus when I needed it?? Ugh.
  21. Agreed, and it's easy to second guess the manager. But ^^ isn't much consolation when Kelly gives up a HR with Kimbrel on the bench. I like bringing in the 'closer' in the situation where he may be able to save the game, regardless of the inning.
  22. Well.. Am I now defending myself against things I didn't say? I didn't say that comprehensive is a bad thing. I just believe that "comprehensive" can be used as a metaphor for "unduly complicated". Next.. I've also never said that Bogaerts is not the 9th best (defensive) SS in the league. IMHO there are a lot of SS's who are better than he is defensively. IMHO he's one of the best SS's in the league when his offensive and defensive skills are combined. This is going to be a long easier discussion to have if you don't keep throwing red herrings into the conversation.
