  1. Yep. This thing was rolling along well until Barnes couldn't find the plate. :-(
  2. I believe that the Sox relievers threw 18 pitches in a row out of the strike zone before getting one in. Perez swung at two of them.
  3. Has the pen thrown a strike this inning??
  4. Great post! Now pardon me while I try to clean the beer out of my keyboard.
  5. Welcome Zs... Ok, your initial post didn't get rave reviews, but don't give up posting. Picking up Cozart wasn't something that I'd seen here before and new ideas always give us something to think about. Keep throwing things against the wall and see what sticks!
  6. Sorry, but this "inner ear infection" doesn't even begin to pass the straight-face test.
  7. I hear you, but I'm torn on this one. We need someone competent at 3B but at the same time I'm always concerned about bringing someone up who may not be ready. I tend to take a longer view on things and if we find he's not ready we've burned up an option year if we send him back down. I'd rather give him a few weeks in AAA to see how he hits their pitching and then make a decision as to whether or not to bring him up.
  8. Exactly. I see no problem here. After all, the team has a better record when he's on the field than when he's on the bench. Put him out there. Leave him there. What could possibly go wrong? After all, the statistics don't lie!
  9. I've got to admit that I wasn't optimistic that this would happen when the Sox were on their way to Houston.
  10. Note to all. DO NOT run on Christian Vazquez!
  11. Our friend Moon is in the middle of a hostile crowd there! I hope he's doing his rooting for the Sox quietly.
  12. WTF is going on with those announcers?? When Hanley got burned with a bad call they talked about what a great job the pitcher did of setting that up, but when it happens to the Astros they talk about how the hitter stayed off an inside pitch like he was taught to do and didn't get rewarded for it. These guys suck as much as the ump sucks.
  13. In terms of runs scored it's right in the middle of the pack. Out of the 30 teams it's 17th in runs, 27th in HR's, 15th in doubles, and 27th in triples. The only thing left is singles, which they're 7th in and i"m not sure that being 7th in singles would make them a "hitters park".
  14. Fenway's being a hitter's park is an old myth. It's been said that the renovations they made to the park have affected the wind currents and have taken that advantage away from the hitters. Fenway is actually about in the middle of the pack. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor
  15. This could be a part of the problem. The Sox, like Sandoval, are playing sporadically well enough that the FO is hesitant to make any changes.
  16. IMO the problem here is that we've had trouble defining what "a look" is. Is it a couple of games or is it until the AS Break? I feel like this team is hanging on by a thread as it is and putting Sandoval out there for a month as "a look" could play us out of contention, not to mention increasing the price we'd have to pay for a trade deadline 3B. Sandoval simply cannot be allowed to play this team out of contention with his mediocre offense and less than mediocre defense. I don't see Rutledge/Marrero/etc. as the answer but I do see it as a better answer than Sandoval.
  17. Case in point, "JBJ".
  18. I agree. I was being extremist to make a point.
  19. LOL Nice observation. I hadn't thought of it that way!
  20. I agree with you but I'm not sure everyone would. That could amount to a .150 BA and .550 slugging %. IMHO most fans wouldn't put up with that, even if they played CF like..... like... er... like JBJ!
  21. I usually reserve "hate" until I've actually met someone personally. And even then I hesitate to use that word. To me that word goes more toward absolute and intentional actions than to things like job performance. Intent cuts a lot of ice with me. I strongly dislike the situation we're in with Sandoval, Thornburg, Pomerantz (although I do come close to hating the Padres in that I question their intent in dealing Pom without fully revealing what they knew about him), Craig, and Castillo. Did I leave anyone out? However, I don't dislike them personally because I believe that as professionals they (should) have a lot of pride and must be as frustrated with their performance as we are. I refuse to believe that any of those players came to Boston with the intent to collect their salary and not contribute. I also strongly dislike the GM's and others (hear that, Larry?) who put the team in this position, but my opinion of anyone is based on the aggregate of their actions. If I'm going to "hate" DD because he picked up Thornburg and Smith, do I also have to hate him in spite of the fact that he picked up Chris Sale? If I'm going to "hate" David Price because he failed miserably in the playoffs do I also have to hate the David Price who won 17 games last year? {And before certain posters jump all over that, yeah, I know that wins aren't the best indicator of how a player has pitched, but wins are the determining factor in who makes the playoffs.} I have certain players whom I "like" - but not love - without meeting them and it's usually based on their defense. Obviously Dwight Evans is one and Mike Lowell is another, due to not only their on-field accomplishments but also because they "played the game the right way". Of the current team I also strongly like Vazquez and JBJ, but that's no secret to those who've followed my posts. Mookie is also quite high on my "like" scale. Pedey used to be but that fracas about "It's not me, it's them" lowered his position considerably. Meh.. this has gone on too long. Enjoy the day... and Happy Father's Day tomorrow to everyone except Kimmie. Edit: I think that in spite of the fact that I've never met the man I hate John Sterling.
  22. the only good news is that this hot mess only took less than 1 1/2 hours. At least it was quick. Grrrr
  23. Sandoval wasn't the only problem tonight, but he sure was one of them.
  24. one word for this game... UGH
