  1. 60 day IL means starting his service time clock and doesn’t count towards the full year Ward needs to spend on a roster to be kept. So, coupled with the year necessary to keep him on the roster means a selecting team gets one minimum wage year before arbitration hits once they decide he’s a keeper. (For two years in total) Teams would be better off finding healthy unprotected arms rather than trying to invest two years in Ward to see if he is worthwhile
  2. Bogaerts is a better overall player than Correa, at least according to fWAR…
  3. It actually would have been very stupid to protect Thad Ward. That would mean the Sox has TWO 40 man roster spots dedicated to pitchers who were going to be out for nearly the entire season and who couldn’t be placed on the 60 day IL without it accruing their service time and bringing them closer to free agency and arbitration…
  4. Jimenez is very very fast, but is not a good base stealer. Any team selecting him to Buttrey him on the bench as a pinch runner would be doing his career a great disservice. Not to say some dumb team won’t…
  5. I wouldn’t say there is no chance Jimenez gets taken. He’s not in that much different of a position than Akil Baddoo was last year. Likely? No. Impossible? Also, no…
  6. And is there anyone we really worry about losing? Jimenez is the highest ranked of the unprotected, but he’s still in A ball. Ward is probably two years away from actually being controlled by a new team, assuming he can stay healthy. And by then he’ll be pushing 26 with still only maybe 6 innings above A ball. I suppose there always someone like Feltman or Hart that some team is willing to gamble on. Or maybe Zack Kelly, although he’s fallen grew a few cracks already…
  7. But for a lot of teams, the Sox unprotected players might not be the best options available. We might lose a player, but so will a lot of teams.
  8. It’s not the roster spot that’s the problem. Teams like the Orioles and Pirates often struggle just to get 25 major leaguers. The problem is keeping the player on your MLB roster and not only taking away a year of development but coinciding that with bringing the same player one year closer to free agency. Heck one year closer to first year if arbitration. I think a lot of times these teams realize they’re probably just better off staying the course with their own farm players…
  9. In that case, I would have won. Those guys wanted to protect everybody up to and including Chaim Bloom’s mother-in-law
  10. Or the starting 3b, like he’s been the past couple seasons…
  11. If there was a forum pool on guessing this - and the heck isn’t there one? - I would have lost mightily…
  12. Aren’t that all trade candidates, except $19.5 mill worth of JD? One year ago, would you have colored Benintendi blue?
  13. Both Baez from 3 years ago AND Baez from 2 years ago? Not unless we replace Bloom with HG Wells…
  14. For Baez, last 3 years is 7.9 fWAR and 13.2 for last 4 season…
  15. Better
  16. Lower
  17. Make him throw right-handed? That has disaster written all over it...
  18. In the event the Sox do sign Duffy, he probably won't face those two guys too many times...
  19. They might be trying. But Bogaerts has to be agreeable. Probably worth mentioning he did hire the most disagreeable agent in the sport...
  20. OK. But Iglesias can agree to go elsewhere. Pinder can't if they del for him...
  21. Neither was Marwin Gonzalez. What's your point?
  22. With Tampa, Bloom did like to acquire former top prospects who just did not pan out for their original teams. Tyler Glasnow, Jake Bauers, Logan Morrison being some examples. If this is the case, should we expect 2B/OF Shed Long to be on his radar?
  23. So the plan is not only mediocrity, it's doubling down on mediocrity?
  24. Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues takes umbrage to this statement. Although like many, he is probably a fan of Lucy.. \.
  25. Thining 3 free agents for Boston tops. 1 starting pitcher. Prefer GRay, but it will probably be someone like Danny Duffy or Jose Urena. 1 relief pitcher. I will guess it will be Archie Bradley, Hansel Robles, Hector Neris, or Ryan Tepera. They all seem a bit Bloom-ish. 1 second baseman. I like Cesar Hernandez, but Bloom seems to like infielders who play a boatload of positions, including Kike, Santana, Arroyo, Jose Peraza, and even Jose Iglesias. So let's predict Leury Garcia here for no real reason except that one plus he fits any budget. I did go bargain basement across the board. Not that I think Bloom necessarily will, but I also have no clue about his budget....
