  1. The good: Wacha has seen his FB velocity increase the past two seasons The question: So? He still really didn’t pitch that well despite throwing harder. The good: Lowest xFIP since his best season. The question: So? His HR/FB was atrocious and he pitched in the best (for pitchers) home run park in the AL East The good: I agree he’s probably replacing Perez and not ERod. The question: Why not just upgrade when replacing Perez, too? Also, maybe he’s not replacing ERod, but does that mean Sale is?
  2. Yeah no one understands why people might have faith in Bloom! I mean, a lot of people predicted last years team would win 75 games!! And damnit, they were all right! And would have been even more right if the Sox didn’t with those 17 other games!! And those 7 postseason games!! Bloom should have earned some credibility last year. Just because he didn’t win a ring doesn’t mean he didn’t do a good job and show he knows what he’s doing…
  3. Well it might fill out the rotation. Opening day, 2022 rotation might be Sale, Eovaldi, Whitlock, Pivetta and Wacha…
  4. Like every move Bloom has made so far?
  5. So… same commentary as last off-season when Bloom went after Perez and Richards? And again after the deadline when all the pitching help we got was Robles and Davis? And how did all those tragic acquisitions turn out? Only with a trip to the ALCS? So at any point do we maybe at least think Bloom might know what he’s doing?
  6. Oh I am 100% behind keeping him in the bullpen. But it’s not going to happen…
  7. No. If I knew it based on something (history?) then I might use him as a starter because it’s usually easier to replace relievers than it is to replace starters. But right now my opinion is Houck and Whitlock work will in the bullpen. It’s not broken. Why fix it? Getting new starters might put question marks on the rotation, but moving Houck and/or Whitlock there and replacing both creates more question marks.
  8. Absolutely true. Eating innings is essential. Of course, we really don’t know if Houck or Whitlock are capable of eating very many. They might be Diet Relievers…
  9. I’m 100% being on board with keeping both Houck and Whitlock in the bullpen. I can see the arguments. Starters are hopefully good for 150 IP, but also only impact maybe 28-32 games. As relievers, they are only good for maybe 70-80 IP, but also can impact 60-80 games…
  10. But the Yankees did trade Chapman elsewhere so he could win one…
  11. That can be changed with one bout of forearm tightness…
  12. Graveman had a great year as a relief pitcher, but this was his first season in the bullpen. Prior to 2021, he was just another oft-injured and occasionally effective starter. There might be another questionable starter on the board who could be converted into a very effective relief pitcher. I’m thinking Jose Urena…
  13. Concussions are weird. It just took one too all but end the careers of Jason Bay and Justin Morneau, but Brandon Belt just keeps stacking them up and plowing forward…
  14. Apparently they have money. Still trying to figure out the advantage of Matz over Danny Duffy…
  15. Tension is building and expectations running high as we approach the culmination of the Steve Matz Lottery!! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/steven-matz-expected-to-sign-this-week.html You heard it here first! Soon we will know the decision! Soon we will know what team has won the right to proudly display this extremely mediocre and replaceable pitcher!!
  16. I remember when Clint Frazier was nominated for a Gold Glove. I think he’s available now…
  17. 1.4 fWAR in a 60 game season in 2020. Released in 2021…
  18. “Therapist” is two words…
  19. You wouldn’t say that if you ever saw him play SS…
  20. Bello may never get above AA. Means would be a good get, but acquiring him figures to not be simple. I’d throw Duran out there for part of the deal, but no way is he enough to get it done…
  21. Ah the America’s Cup. The Aquatic Kentucky Derby!
  22. Orioles listening on John Means. Should Boston be talking? And who should be mentioned first? Would anyone go as high as Yorke and Bello, which is closer to Means’ BTV value and certainly a package Baltimore will listen to…
  23. I’d rather watch just about anything over golf, and was tempted to use the Ryder’s Cup as my overrated example. I also briefly thought of the Beanpot tournament…
  24. You mean like Wil Cordero? Or Chico Walker?
  25. The Rule 5 draft is the most overrated event in American sports, with the possible exception of the Kentucky Derby…
