    Pham was also horrible last year. Although some of that can probably be attributed to getting stabbed in the off-season. I do think Pham would be a smart short term depth piece. Right now, it looks like Duran is starting and that will be great of he hits. But what is the contingency plan if he doesn’t?

    He is. Kevin Newman is also a better defensive shortstop. If Boston acquired Newman, do you think Bogaerts should change positions to accommodate a guy with a .574OPS? I can see both sides of a Story/Bogaerts case here. But if Boston moves X to 2b, extending him becomes more difficult.

    Arroyo has been a pleasant surprise, but also a durability nightmare. If the Sox don’t land Story, I imagine Arroyo in a platoon with Bradley that involves bouncing Hernandez back and forth between 2b and CF…

    I’m not so sure that’s how any of it played out. For example, last September was the first time Iglesias and Bogaerts played together in Boston. Iglesias was dealt to Detroit 3 weeks before Xander’s MLB debut, and had been playing 3b (brilliantly) to accommodate Stephen Drew. Bogaerts reportedly did tell the Sox he was more comfortable at SS, but by then Iglesias and Drew were both gone, plus Xander did play 3b in the World Series. Story only recently pulled off his adamance at playing SS. And there have been stories for each side about whether or not Bogaerts would move…

    The Braves don’t care about spending? They let one of their most popular players walk away in free agency over barely more than they just spent on Jansen. (Also interesting side note, the Red Sox have outspent the Braves in free agency this off-season.)

    The important point is in that series of trades, we would have lost Jon Lester. Now the Sox are supposed to get Brandon McCarthy, which would have been a minute compensation at best…

    Per the latest article on MLBTR, Story is open to changing position short term. They also cite he wants a “win now” team. San Francisco and Minnesota are also in the running let the article. Seattle seems to have settled their infield issues…

    On the Story front, MLBTR does paint a picture with Boston as a legitimate candidate to sign him. Of course, they need to be in the right financial ballpark first…
