  1. Yes I remember Yankee fans running Jeter out of town for that same reason…
  2. Well, we used to judge defense with stats like errors and fielding percentage. But errors are really just some guy’s opinion made official. The rulebook even says so…
  3. … and that’s why just spending isn’t always the answer…
  4. But are we done yet?
  5. Yeah that part of the equation has been a sticking point. He is a surprisingly fast runner for his size. I think in time, he could be an excellent defender in RF. The problem, I have no idea how long “in time” is, but I do know how badly things can go between now and then…
  6. I love the idea of moving Dalbec to the OF if Casas works out, but I don’t think the transition will be so expedient…
  7. Wild guess here… Scott Boras?
  8. I used to call the career minor leaguer, usually someone like Chris Carter or Pedro Ciriaco, who had a flat out great spring and generated too much form chatter when they were clearly destined for (then) Pawtucket as “this year’s winner of the Jeff Bailey Award.” It’s probably time to name a few candidates for the JBA for 2022…
  9. Do you need a spot on accurate projection?
  10. Bradley isn’t going to be among the league leaders, but he absolutely will bounce back somewhat in 2022. That’s not even a prediction; it’s actually a statistical likelihood…
  11. And I agree he wasn’t mediocre. He was a very pleasant surprise. But so was Schwarber, who I agree with the OP was a monster. Just because he didn’t drive in runs from the leadoff spot doesn’t mean anything. Schwarber did everything the Sox needed him to offensively…
  12. The point is preseason evaluations, while not totally worthless, are not necessarily accurate either…
  13. Think Duran is on the bench? He’s a BA and MLB top 100 prospect. He needs to be playing if not in MLB then in Worcester…
  14. Dalbec was an absolute monster from mid-June until the end of the year…
  15. Ok, but you singled out Renfroe as someone the Sox wouldn’t have made the postseason without. Apparently everyone and not just Renfroe deserves that accolade…
  16. Hopefully they’re big enough for Arroyo to land on them when he trips. Hopefully they’re softer, too…
  17. Didn’t we feel this way in March last year? Heck I felt 2021 was going to be a looooong season after they opened up getting swept by Baltimore…
  18. The minor league contracts: 1. Don’t bump anyone off the 40 man roster 2. Typically require a player to earn their way to the parent club 3. Are extremely handy as injuries pile up 4. Don’t carry heavy long term commitments that limit future moves, and 5. Don’t affect the current payroll until necessary No one said anything about rebuilding the farm. But they’re not a gimmick; they’re a necessity
  19. Renfroe drive in 17% of all runners on base when he was up, which is very good. Schwarber only drove in 14%, which is about average. Of course, Schwarber excelled at being on base for others to drive in. Without anyone on base, Renfroe ain’t getting those 96 RBIs…
  20. Pretty sure you could say the same without Schwarber and his .957 OPS…
  21. Schwarber batted leadoff a lot. No one puts up RBIs batting leadoff…
  22. Renfroe had an .816 OPS. Schwarber had a .957 OPS for Boston. Schwarber was a much better weapon at the plate…
  23. He actually pulled it making that statement…
