  1. The Angels say no because they don’t want $52mill AAV tied up at 3b while they weaken they’re already sub-mediocre pitching staff…
  2. Post-prime Devers doesn’t immediately mean he drops from an.850-.900 OPS to .680. Post-prime Devers should give a year or two (or more!) greater than Nimmo in his prime season…
  3. Eovaldi hopefully accepts his QO. Sign Gallo for RF. Sign 2 relievers. Jansen, Martin and Rogers are the best ones left. SS is a big question…
  4. I’d rather extend Devers, defensive shortcomings and all, then sign anyone on the market this year…
  5. With only 6 guaranteed contracts (I forgot about Kike), then lots of non-tendering is in order…
  6. It is to think that we’re talking about a payroll crunch on a team that only has 5 players on guaranteed contracts. And that’s counting Whitlock’s small deal, Hosmer’s minimum wage deal, and Barnes’ very short deal…
  7. Isn’t that exactly what you keep doing?
  8. Henry doesn’t care about our complaints. He didn’t make billions by listing too impatient people complain…
  9. 2021 was worse for attendance and by a lot. Baseball Almanac has 2022 attendance up nearly 50% over 2021. But this drop happened to nearly every team in MLB, who all had a horrible 2021 and saw significant bounce back in 2022. This is most likely just post-COVID recovery for the sport. And is actually very likely NOT reflective of the product each organization put on the field. (With many ticket sales occurring in the pre-season and 2021 Sox having a deep postseason run, the timing simply didn’t allow for them to.) So Henry won’t but using this drop to justify anything. Because he shouldn’t. It doesn’t mean what you keep saying it means…
  10. Paying customers should have zero pull on actual moves, but you do have to put a product on the field that is worth what they are paying for…
  11. My auto correct does talk the occasional hallucinogen…
  12. Other than Bogaerts and Eovaldi, I doubt theSox talk to any free agent with a qualifying offer attached.
  13. If middle reliever/set up types now command in excess of $11mill AAV and closers get a $20mill AAV, the Sox are going to have to be extremely prudent with their signings or they’re going to need a much, much bigger budget. On the bright side, those who have been pushing for $145mill Chris Sale to go to the pen only to be met with “a $25mill closer?!?” are on the brink of seeing THAT argument disappear in a puff of negotiations and reality…
  14. Two of my three bullpen targets (I recently started pushing Robert Suarez) have re-signed with their old teams…
  15. He asked for $400million. He was offered a $30mill AAV from Boston just like he has today…
  16. Maybe. From what I gathered at the time, Mookie was dessert on racing free agency. That it took 5 months, a cancelled spring training, and roughly 50-60 cancelled games before Mookie FINALLY actually signed an extension does not deter me from this line of thinking…
  17. The thing as, it’s hard to think of Boston, which is part of a smaller metropolitan area than Phoenix, as a market capable of competing with NY and LA. But a lot of people seem to think we are all the same size…
  18. I doubt Devers ever approaches the 2022 Aaron Judge. But Judge spent a lot of time in his 20s on the Injured List and I seriously doubt this changes into his 30s
  19. Ok. But Devers isn’t asking for 7 years $245 million. Not even close to it…
  20. The “PR” scenario really doesn’t generate the positive PR you think it does. When the Sox let Clemens walk away and continue to rack up Cy Young awards, was anyone thinking “at least the Sox tried”? Heck DD tried to extend Mookie and very likely went as high as he was allowed, but people STILL think the Sox should have made another useless offer for show…
  21. But that is what fans want…
  22. Who says the Sox are unwilling to pay FAIR market share? Just because a player demands an exorbitant amount of money does NOT mean that’s a fair market price. Why is is fair for the Sox to give more money to Devers than the younger, better Austin Riley got here?
  23. If Devers is not in prime years at ages 32 and 33, why sign 30yo Brandon Nimmo at all?
  24. The Sox may simply not be a big market team whose plan is to capitulate to the demands of every player..
  25. I’d hate to see the Sox have to walk away from $27-30mill AAV on Devers because the spent $22mill on Nimmo…
