  1. I think Duran and Verdugo both get a longer look. Even if neither is an ideal - or even league average - fit defensively, both have shown the ability to provide an overall positive impact. I disagree Cordero is not an MLB talent. But I would agree he’s a role player/4th outfielder. And would adamantly agree he’s not an infielder. Refsnyder is at best a role player, and while clearly underrated by a lot of previous employers, is probably in the midst of a career year. Like Cordero, he’s a role player at best. But hey, teams do need role players. Benches don’t warm themselves. (Unless you have some cool electric bench that does. But that’s another topic.) Granberg might be under the radar, much like I always felt Cole Sturgeon was. But I also felt Sturgeon’s ceiling was Cordero/Refsnyder role player. (Sturgeon less so with the bat, moreso with the glove.). Granberg might fit that type as well, but at some point this team needs starters to keep these bench players benched…
  2. I was high on Rocker last year, but more of that was based on his earlier years and the recent successes of Vanderbilt pitching and not on his comparatively lackluster senior season as a Commodore…
  3. A fair point. I only read the English translations and was unaware of the origins. But your reference was not too obscure for me…
  4. But they’ll offer based on the 2022 version. Plus right now, he’s the best Sox outfielder and the farm has no one between Jarren Duran and Cedanne Rafaela…
  5. I don’t think the offense is as problematic as recent frustrations indicate. The Sox are second is the AL in Runs Scored, which is actually remarkable when you consider that all throughout April and early May, this offense simply could not put anything on the board. They didn’t even have a game where they scored double digit runs until May 16, and went stretches of scoring 3 or less for several games in a row. Any lack of excitement they have is far from rare in the league this year. And don’t deal Verdugo. When the shift is banned next year, he is poised for a massive improvement. I stand by that…
  6. A French comic book? Or a Gallish one?
  7. This makes for an interesting (or maybe not) question. Past GMs have been valued or degraded on this board based solely by how they finished in the standings. But that rarely tells the whole story, and almost never includes any caveat. So this year hypothetically the Sox could finish in 5th in the AL East but might do so while winning 85 games. And if that happens, clearly the AL East is once again the AL Beast. But how will that fit into Bloom’s legacy?
  8. Part of me does want to see Plawecki play shortstop. It’s not a part I’m proud of…
  9. Why do the Sox need a RHH RF? Something happen to Refsnyder? The Sox already have two platoons. They can’t have three. With only 4 bench spots, that would mean Christian Arroyo would be the backup catcher or Plawecki would be the backup SS with the other DFAd…
  10. Let’s limit this to trade deadline pursuit. While it’s very likely to happen, there are no guarantees players like Shaw and Iglesias get released and become available for Boston…
  11. MLB also has an obscure rule that all postseason tiebreakers eliminate the Mariners…
  12. Maybe. But it’s also just 38PA, the overwhelming bulk of which have been against two pretty good pitching staffs…
  13. I do hope if he is starting in 2023, it’s not in Boston…
  14. If you look at his starts, especially in 2018, it looks like a handful were as an opener. So maybe 20 actual starts?
  15. Why would the Sox even consider being sellers right now? Eovaldi, Bogaerts and Martinez will finish the season in Boston…
  16. But even if they move Snell, the proposed package of a washed-up outfielder and an oft-released fungible pitcher is definitely not going to get it done…
  17. I don’t think the Padres have any intention of moving Snell. They probably have several players they’d love to move, including Hosmer, Myers, and Kim. And maybe even Pomeranz and Voit. But there’s no indication they’re willing to dump Snell to do so.
  18. Careful you don’t burn your fingertips on the sun with that reach. If the Padres want a fungible starter, they can find anoyjer Tommy Milone anywhere. If they want Milone, they can wait for Seattle to DFA him, which they would have to do to shuttle him back and forth since I’d be surprised if he had any options left. The Sox could trade minimum wager Ryan Brasier in lieu of Diekman (and take the hit as it wouldn’t work out on BTV) and therefore give the Padres an actual player with an option left…
  19. Perennial candidate Terry Francona is certainly a good choice again this year. If he can win the division with one of the youngest rosters in the past 30 years, he probably vaults to the top of the list…
  20. If the plan is Downs, then Bogaerts is likely not in the plan. Unless for some reason he decides to move to LF…
  21. ZiPS also projects Milone’s “rest of season” is 32 IP….
  22. I don’t think Diekman’s contract is a killer if they also shed Wil Myers. I don’t think Upton and Milone are attractive trade pieces under any circumstances…
  23. The 1b Trade Market Josh Bell (Was). To me, the top player available Jose Abreu (Chi) Unless this guy can be had. And I am doubtful he can be. Trey Mancini (Balt) I see him listed as available, but he won’t be. Jesus Aguilar (Mia) More of a consolation prize CJ Cron (Col) Goid option of Colorado actually sells for once Eric Hosmer (SD) 3 years $39mill left after this year is a deal breaker for me. Garrett Cooper (Mia) If Miami makes him available, he’s one of the more underrated hitters in MLB.
  24. I only had to top Upton and Milone. But I also took back Wil Myers, who isn’t exactly Keith Hernandez at 1b, but is much closer to The Stache than Dalbec or Franchy…
  25. BTV accepts Snell and Wil Myers for Diekman and Bautista (or any of a wide number of other minor leaguers.) Padres reduce payroll by $19.8mill AAV (non-pro-rated value) and save even more actual cash…
