The idea that the Sox let a few 30 something (and in a couple cases, very injury-prone) free agents go and they got hot elsewhere is hardly Bloom’s biggest mistake.
This whole Hamilton situation is just ridiculous. Hamilton gets protected over Ward, probably the Sox most MLB-ready pitching prospect before the season. Not only do we see far too many games of Hernandez flummoxing around the infield, but Hamilton - whom it was so important to keep - tears up AAA and is left there in the minors. Meanwhile, the Sox keep trotting out Enmanuel Valdez and his specially designed glove with 5 thumbs and keep leaving Kike at SS. And then because Ward is in Washington, trot out a 32yo career minor league/multiple Asian league veteran with an 88mph fastball to join the rotation.
Letting go of aging players who go on a hot streak can be just bad luck. But the promotions and non-promotions on this team are the real questionable moves…
