  1. You can’t expect the GM to improve on something that hasn’t happened yet. He have the future to look at. If a player improves elsewhere, there could easily be other factors involved. Are Wacha and Eovaldi benefitting from better defenses? Or better coaching? Is JD hitting better because of worse pitching or the ballpark or being buried in a better lineup? Other than the defenses, I don’t know of any of these are true. But they are all certainly possible…
  2. And also a pitcher who NEVER pitches a full season by that definition. And one San Diego gave a 3 year player option to if he does get hurt…
  3. To fans, yes. GMs should consider how long deals are and what that impact is…
  4. Does it matter? Sale could sustain a season ending injury while reading a book…
  5. But hey, Sale almost got to 60 IP this year…
  6. And their replacements are not signed long term. They’re also easily replaced…
  7. Starters aren’t only pitchers. Anyone who starts can be called a starter and it fits the definition of the word and distinguishes them from bench players…
  8. JD had his chances in Boston. Most people are upset he wasn’t traded away. Again, it seemed like no one liked the 2022 Red Sox when they were here. But now that they’re gone we’re swimming in all this Wacha, Eovaldi and Martinez love. I think some folks just need to stop pining for the past and listen to the words of the great philosopher Stephen Stills . If you can’t be with the one you love…
  9. I was responding to a comment about he hasn’t drafted anything in his middle too late rounds. He’s only had two chances to do that…
  10. Obviously you have forgotten about Aaron Small…
  11. Did Cora? The Sox are 19-24 in games Kike starts at SS. 12-8 in games anyone else starts at SS…
  12. Or… he could have realized that he was never going to call up Hamilton even if he was winning the International League triple crown and the Sox only other alternative at shortstop was wheelchair-bound. And then he could have protected Ward…
  13. But having the world’s greatest defense can make your pitching look better. Red Sox are 29th in team Defensive Runs Saved. Rangers (Eovaldi?) are 3rd and Padres (Wacha?) are 9th…
  14. Point? JD’s last season in Boston, he had a .790 OPS and hit 15Hrs in nearly 600 PA. He wasn’t horrible by any stretch, but what did he do that made you think he was an obvious extension candidate?
  15. To be fair, Bloom has only had two drafts that even had middle and late rounds…
  16. Heck their new $300 mill shortstop is being booed by his mom. True story. Google it…
  17. Who is Joe Jacques?
  18. Agreed. There was nothing wrong with giving Kluber a chance. But it’s time to move on. It didn’t work. This has been obvious. I know it’s possible for a pitcher to just have a bad year. Josh Beckett was awful his first year in Boston, too. But this is not the case here. Kluber is over 10 years older than Beckett was and clearly has fallen off a cliff. He’s not going to recover or make any adjustments. He serves no purpose but to bolster the stats of opposing hitters…
  19. Dermody was a better choice…
  20. Since mid-April, his OPS is around .700. I know the argument is he’s being pitched around, but usually when a hitter gets pitched around, he draws a fair amount of walks. Devers has 14 walks since April 16. For some perspective, in that same timeframe, Refsnyder has 10…
  21. I think signing Sale and Bogaerts ended any attempt to…
  22. Betts did turn down basically the same AAV from Boston, but for two less years. Of course once DD signed Bogaerts and Sale, Betts tenure in Boston had an impact expiration date…
  23. Point? Mookie was leaving after 2020. He wouldn’t sign and turn the money was spent on Bogaerts and Sale. Most superstar trades yield very little. The Marlins traded back-to-back MVPs for Starlin Castro and a slew of MiLB players. The Orioles traded Manny Machado for Dean Kremer and scraps. The Marlins dealt Miguel Cabrera for BA top ten prospects who peaked at setup guy (albeit top tier and that took time) and a journeyman OF. They were never getting back another Mookie. They were in Salvage Mode…
  24. He might get the opportunity to change that in 2024…
