  1. Cora will go before Bloom. For all we know, Bloom is doing what Henry wants. Cora isn’t doing anything anyone wants…
  2. Pitching has been good lately, with last inning being a rare exception. And imagine how good it might be with even a league average defense. The offense has been flat out anemic…
  3. Sox haven’t scored more than 3 runs in a game since last Tuesday, when the absolutely piled it on for 5 runs against Cleveland…
  4. The Sox pitching isn’t the problem…
  5. Ok so… game over?
  6. The problem is, however, that the current stretch is ten games and counting…
  7. For some context, DWAR is set against a league average. The base is rooted in UZR or DRS (depending on the source), and both of these numbers trend towards being cumulative. Long story short, limited playing time can negatively impact a players dWAR, which does make sense. No one adds defensive help from the bench. For the Sox, this does mean part time players like Arroyo and Valdez would and should struggle to have positive defensive WAR contributions just due to playing time and regardless of fielding ability…
  8. Plus they are all but ensuring the World Series goes into November…
  9. So 10% more often than when a team squeaks in and wins it all
  10. Sox are 5 games over .500 when Kike is not the SS…
  11. The Sox committed 2 errors on run scoring plays, including the eventual game winner. On the other side, the only reason the game went to the tenth was that spectacular home-run-robbing grab by Nolan Jones in the 8th. The Sox got out-gloved…
  12. You sure they have bats?
  13. How often in the last 20 years has the best record win the WSC?
  14. They could be competitive with slight tweaks to the lineup, never mind the roster…
  15. And we can call him Pablo Reyes, the replacementiest replacement player of all time…
  16. Using DRS as a metric, Texas has the second best defense in MLB and San Diego is top ten as well. If you put Eovaldi and/or Wacha on the mound with the 29th ranked defense (that leads MLB in errors) behind them, do people still think these guys put up Pitcher of the Month caliber numbers? The Sox rotation has been nothing short of miraculous of late, given that they’re supported by the stopgap middle infield clusterf*** trying to record outs with varying levels of success. The defense and the offense are the incredibly obvious shortcomings right now…
  17. I posted a week or two back about how the starter ERA was dropping, as was the team OPS. It was met with “yeah but Kluber!! Wacha!!”
  18. Yes and no. Certainly when only one team made it it was tougher. But bear in mind also it was an 8 team league (except from 1961-1969, when it was 10). Now it’s a 15 team league, so even with more teams getting it, more teams also still miss the postseason…
  19. This offense is struggling mightily. They have scored more than 1 run in an inning exactly one time in the past 83 innings. That’s just over 9 games…
  20. He probably had prolonged stretches. The first hitter I saw do this was Jay Payton when he was in Boston. He did eventually get his OBP above his BA, however. Still, he showed it was possible. Although I hate crediting a whiny blowhard like Payton with anything…
  21. The problem they have is that the entire standings in the AL Central can be re-arranged if anyone goes on a 4 game winning streak. If the White Sox feel they are out of it, Giolito is a free agent and could go first. They’d probably have to be blown away to deal Anderson…
  22. Interesting and nonsensical distinction…
  23. You’re in conflict with ChatGPT. Not a debate you will win. It’s intelligence might be artificial, but it’s still intelligence…
  24. No he isn’t. It’s very likely, but not guaranteed. It’s rare but it does happen where a player has a lower OBP than BA. This can be accomplished by having more sac flies and sacrifices than walks…
  25. Certainly they were hindered by not having the Wild Card. But you’re also going back to a time when payroll want the concern it clearly is today…
