The only other chip IMO might be Duran (or Rafaela). The turnaround of Duran and the glove/promise of Rafaela have turned CF into a position with potential depth to deal from and IMO the Sox best trading chip to land effective SP. I doubt this happens but the Sox could deal Duran and use Dunn as relief while they break in Rafaela…

And certainly an avenue Henry has chosen before. I’ve been postulating that Bloom is safe if he is doing what Henry wants. But even that only applies for as long as Henry still wants it. He might change direction at any time, too. But it’s also worth noting Cora is a pretty good scapegoat, too. For all the blame Bloom receives, he isn’t in the dugout and he isn’t running the game decisions…

Not sure you know how this whole “opinion” thing works. That the 2019 Red Sox won 84 and had the highest payroll in team history at the time are not really matters of opinion. That the upper minors had little to no talent left in 2019 really isn’t either. You’re sure about the fantasy world thingy?

There also may be discrepancies in the integration of the word “competitive.” I mean, the Sox finished poorly last year but we’re only 3 1/2 games out at the deadline. Were they competitive? They might simply mean “Not into full blood Sell Mode and therefore not stringing up a slew of 50-55ish win seasons like the Orioles did for a 4 years prior to 2022”…

But on the bright side, a lot of those contracts expire after this year. Assuming, of course, you consider Carrasco, Robertson and Pham to be “a lot of those contracts.”

Really all they have to sell. The rest of the pending FA types are not going to be hot commodities. Duvall or Hernandez might get you something, but probably nothing memorable…

Did you expect more for Hembree, Workman and 2 months of Vazquez? The Sox are unlikely to make the postseason and probably should go too deep into pursuing the 34yo and oft-injured Paxton for next year. Trading him now while he’s still actually worth something is the smart option, and 2 months of Paxton isn’t going to get anything more than a gamble or role player. I imagine the Sox should hold Paxton until all of the Snell’s and Giolito’s of the world have changed uniforms and he’s the Best Arm Available…

My “thoughts” about what he was left with have as much merit as anyone’s. Sorry if don’t live in the fantasy world where he inherited The Greatest Sox Team Ever and then willingly destroyed. Because I thought he took over an 84 win team with the highest payroll in franchise history (at the time) and a pretty empty farm system above A ball…

I’m not so sure he’s done a good job; I’ve criticized several moves. But I think he was given a harder job than most of his forehead critics like to admit…

Three other teams also had Mayer “fall into their lap” but passed. Jay Groome fell a lot further into DD’s lap, but no one mentioned that. (Heck I credited him with getting the deal done). But as for other top 100 prospects, Nick Yorke and Roman Anthony by Bloom, and another addition, LHP and 2020 draftee Shane Drohan is likely to be ranked soon…
