    Casas should stay. The Sox do have an outfield glut and a SP dearth. Cost-controlled Duran could be moved due to a potential lack of position/starting role. I know people think “but he won’t get an ace and we need an ace!! Maybe two aces!!” And they’d be right if this was 1985. But todays SP need not be aces on the Bullpen Driven Era.     Two of them were depth options. But nothing can be real learned about a prospect as a pitcher over a few scattered IP here and there. Murphy and Walter are not the problems on this staff…

    He was stupid at the deadline. That’s not in doubt. Even if everyone coming back from injury came back at 100%, did he thinks the injuries are over? And that for the remaining ONE THIRD of a season, that no pitcher would get hurt?

    They really should do it. And move Duran for a pitcher. I’ve thrown out Braxton Garrett due to similar trade values on BTV. But a more likely scenario is a first or second year arb-eligible pitcher. Or a third year arb guy, like Brandon Woodruff. It’s far more likely than thinking the Sox will outbid the pack for Yamamoto…

    I’m fine with all those pitchers I mentioned. I’m not expecting Cy Young candidates from them. Bello and Crawford are very likely just gassed. Bello is at his career high in IP already, and Crawford is at his most since A ball. And A ball IP aren’t the same as MLB IP. (Although A-ball Crawford probably also has very little in common with MLB Crawford. Houck has sown himself to be an effective 5-6 IP starter. That’s actually fine in todays game of 8 man bullpens. And Whitlock just needs to be left in the bullpen, where he has been very effective…

    I’d unload Story first. But I doubt that happens. Bloom probably overpaid for him, but this off-season just about every free agent was a massive overpayment. Except Kodai Senga. I thought the Sox best target would be Brandon Nimmo, but he wound up getting 8 years $160mill. Yoshida’s contract at least isn’t insanely long. Four more years tops.
