  1. The point was about the right hitters who “led the way.” I mean, you actually avoided the AL MVP in a brief list of hitters who led the 1975 Red Sox…
  2. “Evans/Burks” while omitting AL MVP (Non-steroidal division) Mike Greenwell might also support this..
  3. I’m pretty sure his point was “you know, if you ignore the left-handed hitters, the best hitters in team history are all right-handed”…
  4. The whole idea of giving a player the occasional day off isn’t a bad thing. Not sure why dgalehouse is trying to politicize it…
  5. Led by righty swingers? You might have left out the AL MVP somewhere…
  6. The 600 Club/.406 Club/EMC Club altered the wind patterns. And in turn those new wind patters kept changing the name of the club.
  7. Pretty sure Cora is the one implementing the rest days. He was using them long before Bloom came along. And Farrell wasn’t so much for them despite working with a few metrics driven Sox front office types…
  8. It should be a more valid concern. Losing Mookie’s glove wasn’t the biggest part of losing him, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored…
  9. They’ll hopefully as some starting pitching. Yoshida is very likely the DH, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best move. Chapman would allow moving both Devers (-0.5) and Casas(-1.0). But if you like those obvious flaws. As for right-handed bats, it will be interesting to see where. The OF might be predominantly left-handed, but S of today Duran, Verdugo, and Abreu are battling to join Rafaela in the final two spots. (Abreu likely starts the season Worcester.) 1b, 3b, DH, SS, and catcher are likely locked up. That leaves 2b. So are the Sox cleaning out Duran to make way for, say, Teoscar Hernandez? Or Verdugo, and hoping one of Duran or Hernandez morphs into a capable RF? And that’s just for one RHH bat…
  10. If I was predicting, Devers is a lock for 3b. But on my wishlist, they upgrade the D and move him to first. That’s not an endorsement of his defense either…
  11. So “leading with his bat” means what exactly?
  12. What does him sulking and hanging his head have to do with his hitting?
  13. Not to mention your entire postulate is theoretical. You basically conclude with “I didn’t look at defense so therefore it clearly doesn’t matter.” And the rest is meaningless happenstance. Should we therefore conclude that if the Sox had the best pitching but the 12th best offense, they will miss the postseason?
  14. You’re right. After all, they did play more games against the AL East teams than anyone else - all 4 of whom finished in the top 10 in ERA - and since their hitters didn’t set to face their own below average staff, they arguably had one of if not the toughest paths to being a top ten offense. And that does get ignored when we simply look at season totals.
  15. Sox were top ten in runs scored. Sox were 23rd in ERA (but 15th in xFIP) Sox were 30th in OAA (and RAA) Defense is a big issue on this team…
  16. How did it work in 2023?
  17. Only he is allowed to speak for the players!!
  18. Well it started off with Vegasbob saying the Sox should deal him at the deadline regardless of how the team is doing. If he is only around to get traded, just do it before the season starts. Otherwise a Jansen/Martin/Winckowski/Houck/Whitlock/Schreiber/Bernardino/(Other) bullpen should be the best one the Sox have had in a long time…
  19. And also doing a poor defensive job…
  20. They may not. However since the person who makes that call has not been hired yet, I don’t agree with you at this point in time. Naturally if the Sox get a GM who likes him there (which Bloom didn’t), it buys Devers some time. Of course none of that changes what they SHOULD do at the hot corner…
  21. Per my post earlier, what if the best as arm you can get for $25mill is Lucas Giolito?
  22. Well it will certainly eliminate his errant throws to first…
  23. Or Martin. Both have experience and Kenley ain’t getting any younger…
  24. That’s very poor logic for keeping him at 3b. If his salary dictates his position, maybe they need to make him a TOR starter…
  25. So did you have a point at all?
