  1. And no one said they did…
  2. Red said the same thing when I proposed to Sox use Rafaela as a shortstop. Then where did he play that first game? I’d be shocked if they signed Chapman, but it does make sense on some levels. (In the MLBTR Free Agent prediction contest, I predicted Chapman to the Dodgers.)
  3. So the off-season plan for the Yankees is to sign Ohtani and trade for Juan Soto… and then make them bunt more?
  4. Except that Boston did get Babe Ruth back…
  5. It’s objective, which is nice. BTV didn’t overvalue players based on allegiances. It does give fair trades, but it doesn’t tell you whether or not one or both teams are even interested. But most real life trades do work out on their model…
  6. Still been his biggest health issue…
  7. Trout is a part time player. Ironically, the two positions that have had high ISO and K% under 20% in MLB are corner OF and 2b. However, I’m not sure Betts, Acuna, Altuve, and Semien are available. Maybe Arenado or Machado?
  8. So … SP and 2b? Breaking news…
  9. If the Sox want to act like the Sox again, not filling the MLB roster because of some kid in AA is a bad place to start…
  10. And that leaves enough bench space for a backup catcher, preferably one who can also play all four infield positions. Simultaneously, if possible…
  11. Well, the Sox also didn’t get him as many save opportunities…
  12. I actually didn’t realize I was that close…
  13. He’s 36, not 60! That said, his ticker has always been the bigger concern…
  14. There certainly is. But that scenario is unlikely…
  15. Breslow isn’t signing three starting pitchers to major league deals. I predict Snell and Clevinger. I’m basing this on his velocity predilection. Of course, I have no idea how he feels about QOs and draft picks…
  16. Hard to make a match. One team that might be interested is the Reds, who have an abundance of middle infielders and a weak OF. And managed to become contenders in the NL Central, a division that just gets more wide open every day. Verdugo for Jonathan India seems reasonable. It’s close on BTV, but not quite a match. The downside is India has yet to repeat his ROY campaign and isn’t exactly a defensive wizard…
  17. In the off-season, teams really need to queue up to SP10. If Houck goes (and stays!) in the bullpen, you only go to SP6. It’s possible 8-10 come from the set of Walter, Drohan, Gambrell, Van Belle and Santo. But the Sox presumably get a SP or two on a minor league deal to fill some depth…
  18. Buchholz would be famous for leading MLB in pitch clock violations…
  19. If Breslow’s preference is velocity, Giolito is #4 among free agent SP, behind Snell, Clevinger and Montgomery. (Not counting NPB pitchers, for whom I have no data.) Clevinger certainly seems like a probable target…
  20. So… not much. I can agree with that. How about Tyler Mahle?
  21. How much faith do you have in Giolito?
  22. MLBTR released their top 50 free agents with predictions. Each FA received 3 predictions (one from each contributing writer) The Sox were mentioned for the following players: Blake Snell Eduardo Rodriguez Mitch Garver Mike Clevinger Liam Hendriks I might have missed one or two mentions. Garver is the intriguing one for a RH bat; no one here has done much in the way of suggesting catcher upgrades that I have seen..
  23. It was Buchholz in 2010. In 2013, he only had 108 IP…
  24. Bloom jokes are still timely. And we don’t know yet whether or not Breslow is funny…
  25. He took a year off to learn how to cover 1b. No word yet on if it took or not…
