  1. Abreu will have games where you think he’s a gem, and other games where you think you see why Houston gave him away…
  2. That wasn’t a minor league deal
  3. Not sure why the Sox have this philosophy that you can raid the bullpen for starting pitchers. I thought that was just an annoying Bloom thing, but it seems to continue. All off-season, pitchers like Eric Lauer, Zach Davies, Carlos Carrasco, and Domingo German, among others , signed minor league deals with other teams. Per sportrac, 30 starting pitchers signed MiLB deals. None with Boston.
  4. I just said “three starters”…
  5. And the Astros GM wanted him even more
  6. Finally!! I am so f***ing sick of posts about the 1945 Detroit Tigers!! Eddie Mayo sucked!!
  7. Gloves cost money…
  8. Giolito. How soon we forget…
  9. A little over a week ago someone posted a Sox lineup and called it the worst of all time. I forget who, but clearly not a visionary. This lineup looks non-competitive in the International League. Heck, I’m not sure this lineup could compete in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen…
  10. Heineman is the only position player left on the 40 man roster. He’s not officially “called up”; he’s just traveling with the team until they know the story with Casas. But if Casas did go on the IL, Dalbec plays 1b, Reyes at 3b and Valdez at 2b. Wong does have experience at 2b and 3b, if needed…
  11. I’d love it if the Sox kept Betts, especially over oft-injured Story and TBD Yoshida. But it’s not like it was an an either/or. Once Betts wasn’t retained, I’m just happy they spent the money at all…
  12. But where does Tom Brunansky rank?
  13. I am impressed this team is hanging in there considering they’re missing 3 starting pitchers and 5 infielders…
  14. I’m not defending Bloom; I’m pointing out the reality. Players sign for the total value, not the AAV. When the Yankees tried to sign Judge to a 14 year deal, it wasn’t Judge who objected; it was MLB. Judge signed; he didn’t care. He was getting the same money. Ohtani deferred the bulk of his money to lower his AAV because, hey, think he cares if he gets his $700mill a few years later. He’s still getting $700mill. AAV matters to the team, especially as the approach tax limits. Players want the total commitment…
  15. You don’t get out. This isn’t a Bloom thing; this is a basic math thing. You’re arguing that $255mill over 11 seasons is equal to $360mill over 12 seasons. But at least you took your own advice on cutting the snarky comments…
  16. Again. No. Story and Yoshida combine for $255mill. Mookie signed for $360mill. That’s a big difference. Mookie didn’t sign for the AAV; he signed for the $360mill guaranteed… The Sox could have signed him, but no agreement was reachable.
  17. Those are two separate stories, despite your sad attempts to combine them. You sound desperate to turn the story into Bloom choosing Story and Yoshia over Mookie and making up math that fits. And above all, making sure Dombrowski is cleared from not signing Mookie. But the reality is Story and Yoshida combine for $255mill, far short of the $360mill it took to sign Mookie. This includes Yoshida’s posting fee, but not luxury taxes signing Mookie would have incurred. Dombrowski had multiple years to extend him and failed to do so. From what has been said, Mookie didn’t seem remarkably eager to extend, so I don’t think this was Dombrowski’s fault. I’m sure he went as high as he was allowed. But it didn’t look like Mookie wanted it to happen at whatever that limit was…
  18. Some reports had him wanting $400mill…
  19. Would Mookie have signed for 6 years? Because that’s all the Yoshida/Story money pays for. Unfortunately it’s not as simple as you want it to be. If signing Mookie was as simple as you think, why didn’t Dombrowski get it done?
  20. They have several fun players in the 25 and under club, including Jack Suwinski, Endy Rodriguez, Henry Davis, and Oneil Cruz. I caught them at Wrigley last September and am going again t this year, since my diehard Cub fan daughter is also a big Andrew McCutchen fan…
  21. Still haven’t answered why you thought Pittsburgh is a bad team…
  22. The Red Sox are trying to play without three starting infielders and one backup infielder. (And three starting pitchers.) I’m not wild about who they still have starting, but hoping there is an end in sight. Of course, they need Devers to get healthy as well. All things considered, being above .500 right now is a good sign for Boston. Their biggest weakness has proven to be depth, and they’re still holding on while that gets tested…
  23. Post 72 You said “ so you are going to have bad teams like Pittsburg, and Boston with winning record” Asking why Pittsburgh is a bad team. You’ve possibly seen the Red Sox play, so whether or not I agree with that conclusion, I know where it’s from. Where is the Pittsburgh conclusion coming from? Also, calling a 23yo with FIFTY CAREER IP a fake meatball pitcher might be a tad premature…
  24. I was a lone voice of positivity. I have been getting negative because the secondary infield is subpar, to be kind. But it’s also not permanent. So tell me which parts of the Colby College and Sea Dogs games lead you to conclude the Pirates were a bad team? You’re right there was a lot of negativity, but none of it was directed to the Pirates aka the team you said was bad and I asked about…
  25. The Pirates won 14 more games in 2023 than they did in 2022. I doubt they improve by that much in 2024, but they’re certainly heading in the right direction…
