  1. Really in this case, he’s having his one bad year defensively. He has shown he has the skill set…
  2. Nick Ahmed was DFAd yesterday…
  3. Valdez can hit major league pitching and makes no money. He absolutely has trade value. Just not to any team seeking a 2b…
  4. DeJong.
  5. The Sox middle infield is a mess right now…
  6. Weissert should have been demoted over Booser…
  7. Of all the starters mentioned so far, I like Anderson and Eflin a lot. Not as wild about Eovaldi, simply due to his reliance on the 4-seam fastball. Kikuchi is another name I’ve seen mentioned…
  8. I do wonder why Westbrook over Meidroth…
  9. Tarver was more spare than John Christenson…
  10. As it stands now, both the Yankees and Royals are competitors for wild card slots…
  11. That’s essentially what those who “defend” the trade are saying - it made sense at the time. No one north of Atlanta likes how it turned out…
  12. I think of it more like trading Bob Ojeda to the Mets. Ojeda had a terrific year there and was part of that team that beat Boston in the World Series. Boston got Calvin Schiraldi and a few other non-descript spare parts…
  13. They can add Yorke anytime. But a lot of his opportunity rests with Valdez/Hamilton/Romy. These guys are not exactly Craig Biggio. It’s not too hard to envision any or all of them opening the door for Yorke…
  14. The Sox make the World Series after downgrading to Bo Bichette?
  15. The rotation is extremely precarious right now. An injury to Pivetta could derail the season. That is why the Sox NEED to add at least one full time starter to the rotation.
  16. The Sox are already adding former Padre RHRP Trey Wingenter to the 40 man roster today. Doubtful they add Yorke was well. Possible DFAs to accommodate Wingenter include Speas, Keller, and Uwasawa...
  17. Then what is the point here? If the Sox had kept Sale, he would certainly be better than most if not all of their current starters. But would he get extra days off as often as he is in Atlanta? Most likely not. Would he go fewer IP/start? No idea how Cora would manage his workload or even if it would be any different than any other starter. Would he be throwing the same pitch mix? Not sure, but right now his 35% fastball rate is higher than any Sox starter except Pivetta. So we really have no idea how he would really be doing...
  18. Now see. If he was in Boston, this might not be the case. The Sox might have the worst starting pitcher depth in all of MLB...
  19. Oh no doubt. Plus efficiency with him getting there more often in fewer starts...
  20. I like him more as a reliever than as a starter…
  21. Salary is a big factor in the price tag of a player in a trade. You do know that. You were responding to a post about "going rate." Glasnow does have a pretty questionable injury history. But as he is significantly younger, some teams might think that makes him less of a risk over a 35yo pitcher. But worth noting - the Dodgers gave up a younger pitcher who already had TJ to acquire him. (Although I'm fairly certain about half the pitchers in the Dodger system have already had one TJ.) The Dodgers did give him a very heavy contract. Five years - $136mill. Certainly shorter than a pitcher with less injury history would have gotten, but it is for a notable AAV. And it still might burn them. I mean, the Dodgers did have a chance to get in on Sale. and clearly wouldn't even go as high as Vaughn Grissom...
  22. Of course, if we look at number of pitches thrown - the real thing they try to limit - Houck stands at 1,687. Crawford has 1,583. And Sale is right behind him at 1,541...
  23. And yet both Houck and Crawford have more IP than Sale...
  24. According to B-R, Crawford has 18 starts, but according to Fangraphs, he has 19. Interesting.
  25. If you look at Sale's Most Similar By Age, it's been guys like Stephen Strasburg and Lance Lynn lately. Not perfect comps, but not ridiculous ones either. Tyler Glasnow might be a ridiculous comparison. He is not only 5 years younger, but also only made $5.3mill last season. And while he did return a top 100 prospect to Tampa, that pitcher has already had one TJ surgery himself...
