  1. 7 DRS in the last 3 seasons. I’m surprised/shocked. Well, now I get to see first hand…
  2. Apparently the Sox acquired LHRP Bailey Horn last night. I missed that. This means a DFA coming to add Smith to the 40 man. Hamilton? Dalbec? Gutierrez? Heineman?
  3. Even 1b has shown to be a stretch…
  4. I’m not even sold that he is. Both hit roughly the same. Neither plays 1b very well. Franchy is the better defensive outfielder, but that doesn’t say much. Ummmmm …. Franchy is taller? It’s an uninspiring acquisition, but credit Breslow for doing what he can…
  5. Not true. Almonte can provide league average outfield defense…
  6. Yeah we needed lots of metal chairs in the European Theater…
  7. And it would be taxable!!
  8. Before you go glorifying those 1939 MLB scouts too much, bear in mind Williams was helped out by being born white…
  9. Well, I wouldn’t get too excited with my bullying. Is Dominic Smith really any better than Franchy Cordero?
  10. Red Sox acquired INF Zack Short from the Mets and are reportedly going to sign 1b Dom Smith once he opts out. So full 40 man with no new pitchers?
  11. You’ve been around mvp78 too long…
  12. It wouldn’t surprise me. Teams like to add some lore to their tape measure home runs, like the story about Adam Dunn homering into Kentucky. (However, no one is accusing the Reds of moving Kentucky for the sake of the legend.)
  13. Apparently. I think this means all Yankee home wins need to be forfeited to the visiting (i.e. non-rule-breaking) team. I’ll email Manfred…
  14. Unless Gio’s replacement was Whitlock…
  15. But unlike Whitlock, Crawford didn’t have TJ after his career high…
  16. Prospectlive.com has him going at number 7. They have the Sox taking ECU RHP Trey Yesavage at 12…
  17. Was Crawford ever really a reliever? He made one relief appearance in the minors and a handful in MLB. But he’s really always been a starter…
  18. It’s not a question that starters are more valuable. It’s just that when you have a pitcher who has only topped 73 IP once in his major and minor league career (and that resulted in surgery), and attempts to put him in larger roles keep injuring him, when do you decide the lesson has been learned?
  19. I will say one concern - this whole “keep trying to make him a starter when he’s clearly a reliever” is becoming a recurring theme…
  20. Also confusing - why he’s our sixth highest paid pitching draft pick over the last decade…
  21. I don’t believe that to be true, but I would agree that some of these running backs posing as outfielders do have significantly greater batspeed than Williams and can - with more difficulty - hit one out 502 feet or greater to right field. I think, for example, Kyle Schwarber might be able to do it. Granted, Schwarber will strike out 1,000 times trying. But eventually…
  22. There are some rules, and not just the infield. Ballparks bill after 1958 are subject to rule 2.01, which has minimum dimensions for new ballparks as well as remodeled ones. And Fenway does not comply, as the nearest fence has to be 325 feet from home plate down the lines…
  23. His trade to Boston was odd, since he was playing well when DFAd. But the other 3 team scenario isn’t uncommon. Miami traded him to San Diego because he was a pending free agent. San Diego lost him to Chicago through free agency. Jordan Montgomery played on 3 teams in that same time frame. Did that mean he has a few flaws in his game, too?
  24. Yes. Two strikeouts. Also only one game…
