  1. He was called up multiple times. Even played in 99 games from 2014-2016, and put up crazy good DRS numbers for that stretch. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/castiru02.shtml After DD DFAd him and left him to rot in Worcester, THEN he was removed from the 40 man roster. But he was certainly on it for quite a while…
  2. Having two is a big deal, and fro every Eovaldi that does fine afterwards there’s a Brandon Beachy or Chris Capuano who saw it effectively end their career. And a third one is the end based on history. Multiple TJs is a big deal, and this doesn’t change because Eovaldi did fine after his second…
  3. More worried about the tear than the wear…
  4. Buehler has ace caliber ability, but he’s also a tweak away from never pitching again…
  5. Plus Whitlock, too…
  6. And it was a long shot at best, given the Union preference that players take the largest offer…
  7. I’m sure they say worse. But not to his face or when he’s in the room…
  8. I had to check out the opponents, since a lot of times you get some AAAA lineups from September non-contenders. And two of them were against the Angels and Rockies. But the other two were against the Braves and Padres, which gives him some legitimacy…
  9. Fitts was in the Dugo trade. We got Sandlin for John Schreiber…
  10. None. The only pitcher to return after his third TJS was Johnny Venters, and his return was brief and ineffective. If Buehler has another procedure, his career is likely over…
  11. I’d agree but for the potential of Roman Anthony. The Sox could accommodate both if they dealt/benched Rafaela, but that just makes them even more left-handed…
  12. I think this is a myth. For any team, you have 4 other teams in the division and 25 teams outside of it. So trades outside are 6 times more likely, but only based on quantity of teams and not on anything inherent to divisional play. If pressed, I can think of young stars traded within a division. JT Realmuto, for example. Also Matt Kemp, Mike Piazza, Cliff Lee, Jose Canseco, Gary Carter, etc.
  13. The Sox only made this trade so Henry wouldn’t have to pay Valdez!!
  14. Not to mention, he’s coming off of back surgery. TJ is one thing; everyone has an idea how long recovery is and how a pitcher can fare afterwards. But back surgery for a pitcher is comparatively uncharted waters…
  15. I think you’re too focused on Henry’s wallet and starting to believe some of the Internet Idiocy. Ive seen lots of “but Fried only cost money” out there and on this board. They seem to always forget the part about outbidding the Yankees, a team that did outbid us for Soto and wasn’t going to get beaten for Fried. The Yankees do have better financial resources, but their farm is comparatively weak. THIS was the way to outbid them, was with prospect talent. We played yo our strength…
  16. Buehler? At worst, he’s a 3 time Tommy John victim that does nothing but collect fat paychecks for not pitching. Probably a more likely outcome than that #2 thingy you said…
  17. I think you undervalue Abreu, who was a 3 WAR Gold Glove-winning outfielder who makes minimum wage. A good match is the Pirates, who have made Mitch Keller available and who Roster Resource lists with 29yo Rule 5 (2023) draft pick Joshua Palacios as their starting RF. Abreu definitely fits a need, and more important, is in their price range. Of course BTV doesn’t like this trade. Their model says Pittsburgh needs to add about $10mill in surplus value. I would do it straight up. But I wouldn’t be averse to helping their salary limitation by taking back Pudgy David Bednar (who was awful last year) in hopes of a rebound. I’d even throw in Zack Kelly…
  18. So you're not excited about the announcement that Fulmer might be returning to SP? (I assume they mean in Worcester.)
  19. Buehler is the solution for people who don't think Flaherty gets injured often enough...
  20. Is this really a good complaint? "Sure we got a young high upside pitcher, but we didn't PAY ENOUGH for one!!" You spent half the off-season talking about getting cheap, young controllable pitching. The Sox got a 25yo very high upside starter with multiple years left and an expressed desire to sign an extension. You got EXACTLY what you wanted. At some point, can you at least be happy about it? Carson Kelly is definitely a step up, but he is hardly the only option. And with Teel gone, the Sox can/should now explore catchers with multiple years of control. Since the FA market is just stopgaps and backups, they will probably need to look elsewhere. One possibility might be Sean Murphy. Atlanta has a good catcher in AAA named Drake Baldwin they could turn to (although I only can speak for his offensive skillset.) With Murphy missing most of last year and being owed $60mill over the next 4 years, I can see them moving on to Baldwin...
  21. Flaherty, a reliever (Finnegan, Kittridge, Bielak, etc) and, if rumors of wanting 3 yes / $70millare true, Teoscar Hernandez. And trade for a decent pitch-framing catcher, since they clearly forgot to re-sign Danny Jansen…
  22. I had heard Lopez is not available, but at a minimum, they probably won’t make any drastic moves until the recently announced sale of that club is complete. Who knows what direction the new owners want?
  23. Why would it be done by now? Seattle isn’t looking just to dump Castillo. The main reason it isn’t done is lots of teams are involved. Castillo is owed a lot of money, but it’s still pennies compared to what Burnes is going to get, and very likely less than what Pivetta and Manaea ultimately get as well. So for purely financial reasons, Castilllo is more popular than he normally would be. The Sox aren’t getting any of those Seattle pitcher. Especially not the overrated Bryce Miller…
  24. Did ok? They came in last place the first two seasons after that trade…
