  1. But I do agree - the third base situation is pretty bad. At this point, I'd rather DFA Sandoval, and give Rusney Castillo (who did play the position in Cuba) a try...
  2. "Bench" and "depth" ren't necessarily the same things. The bench is guys you have available today. "Depth" is what you can go get from your organization that fills a need tomorrow or the next day...
  3. I do question how relevant Beltre"s play with the Sox still is considering it was seven years ago. ..
  4. I did. First thing I heard was the sox got a pitcher and an outfielder. I was hoping they landed a decent prospect or two. I was very disappointed to hear they got Allen Craig, whose downward spiral had already started. ..
  5. That trade was awful because it was a knife in the back of Bronson Arroyo. Although the initial offer was Matt Clement...
  6. The Lackey trade was a bad one for a slew of reasons, especially since his whole threat of retirement was based on the fact that Tony Massarotti can't read...
  7. Rusney Castillo deserves some mention as one of, if not the worst contracts in Sox history. ..
  8. Definitely not the worst, but one awful trade no one ever talks about was trading Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg. In order to get a sub par offensive corner outfielder who went on to a career a a journeyman utility player, the Sox have up a left handed pitcher who went on to pitch for 15 more seasons and win 195 more games with an ERA+ of 107 in that span and even spent a few seasons in Seattle at the best LHP in the American League. But then giving up talented southpaws for bench fodder isn't anything new to Sox fans, as the Spaceman would remind us...
  9. So you agree Ellsbury's contract is worse than Carl Crawford's? I have to think two of the worst, if not the two flat out worst contracts of all time have to be Pablo Sandoval and Rusney Castillo. The Sox tied up about $140 mill in one player who can't crack the starting lineup over their utility infielders and another who can't crack the 40-man roster...
  10. At least you're being thorough...
  11. Sounds like an opinion that was already formed to me...
  12. Move on to what? Chris Young? The Sox minors right now are pretty much empty of outfielders...
  13. There is really no mention in this thread of trading Bradley for anything, so is this just about getting rid of home? Not sure why the OP thinks the Sox are "screwed" if Bradley doesn't hit, either. Especially since he's the one guy who contributes the most without hitting...
  14. One of the thongs Verducci highlighted in that article was how the veteran outfielders still worked on charging grounders to work on fielding them with the proper foot forward to come up throwing...
  15. I get complaining about the offense, but the Sox aren't being held back by the #7 hitter. ..
  16. Actually I'm all for keeping this outfield intact for as long as possible. ...
  17. Many years ago, I remember reading an article by Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated that he spent spring training in the Blue Jays camp and was amazed at how much time veteran players spent practicing fundamentals. ..
  18. But only when he's not hitting..
  19. Well, for starters he'd probably kill every arm in the bullpen. The idea of a guy with ZERO management experience doesn't suit me. Although his ninth inning strategies would be awesome. "No I don't want you to bunt. Just go up there and hit a walk off home run. Got it? Walk. Off. Home. Run."
  20. Have to agree with one point here - crappy hitting is patially on the GM. His whole off-season philosophy was contradictory. " We're going all in to win a title this year!!! But without spending money!"
  21. Why do fans think GMs don't recognize hot streaks and streaky hitters and therefore alue players differently if they have performed better over the last couple days? GMs employ scouts and have a very good idea of how good Bradley is, including the streaky hitting thing.
  22. Bogaerts is a Broad client as well and would command a ton more cash than Bradley. Should he be traded too? And would we even be discussing this if Bradley wasn't struggling?
  23. if Hardy catches that routine pop up then it would have been even easier triple play
  24. Pedroia does have the worst ISO in MLB for any player with 90 plate appearances. But then Bogaerts is fourth worst in MLB. Should he be traded too?
  25. First, you're probably underlying Plouffe, who most definitely is an upgrade and has a nice Fenway swing. I know he isn't a big name all star, but the inability to land one shouldn't be a reason to stand pat and continue with a utility infielder at third. Second, there was a lot of criteria thst he meets, including luxury tax criteria, that won't be met if the Sox acquire Adrian Beltre, and control criteria as well. Plouffe and a few others like the oft-injured Mike Moustakas and the even-more-oft-injured Jed Lowrie, have the potential to meet a lot of requirements...
