  1. I think that kind of stuff gets overblown and many stories we hear are incomplete, one-sided, and misunderstood. The Sox defense all-around was among the best in baseball and definitely helped the pitching. If the Dox do decide to add another depth starter, the team defense does become a selling point for pitchers on a one year deal. It won't outweigh, say, pitching in Petco. But a pitcher looking to bolster numbers might see the advantage the Sox defense helping him out over other lesser fielding teams...
  2. There is plenty of evidence to support Moustakas' as a quality defensive 3b. If you want Devers to "grow into the position, " send him to Pawtucket where that kind of thing takes place.
  3. I'll try a crazy one. C: Vazquez 1b: Abreu (acquired for Bradley and Swihart) 2b: Yollmer Sanchez (acquired for Bradley and Swihart) 3b: Devers ss: Bogaerts LF: JD Martinez CF: Benintendi RF: Betts DH: Hanley SP: Price , Sale, Pomeranz, Porcello, Wright BP: Kimbrel, Smith, Thornburg, Kelly, Barnes, Johnson, Scott Bench: Holt, Hernandez, Leon and Castillo Not my plan, but I could see something similar...
  4. The cliff is like the horizon. Sure we're heading for it, but it's not going to get here. Especially right now. Given the low value of even elite prospects, a team can rebuild the farm substantially with one July deadline sell off. But really, a lot can and will happen in 3 years.
  5. The concept has more to do with free agency than age...
  6. Hopefully they don't trade Bradley (for a 1b?) to accomodate Martinez in the OF. Bradley is the better all around player of the two, so it better be a great return...
  7. And what do you expect us to do about it? I've contacted Brandon Phillips, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet...
  8. Saves have very little relevance. Ditto wins.
  9. I don't think it's a priority. ..
  10. My thoughts on Sox needs. 1. 1b. I predict Hosmer but prefer Santana. Or Abreu if a trade can be worked out. I prefer the Sox don't break up the OF. Moustakas is an option, sliding Devers to first. But I doubt Dombrowski moves him. I do believe the QO will not be a deterrent to Dombrowski, since I don't think it ever has before. 2. 2b. Free agency has some mild options like Brandon Phillips and Howie Kendrick. Yollmer Sanchez is a terrific player who loses his job this year (and might be too pricey). There is a good chance Brad Miller is non-tendered. Internally, Marco Hernandez and (ugh!) Brock Holt are other options, ahead of Deven Marrero and Tzu-Weight Lin. And hey, maybe Josh Tobias (acquired for Clay Buchholz) can turn some heads. I do doubt anything expensive happens here. 3. SP. Wright likely rejoins the rotation. But hopefully Dombrowski brings in some depth better than Kyle Kendrick this off-season. 4. RP. I like the Bryan Shaw prediction. But regardless, DD needs to add a reliever to the disabled list. And also to possibly replace any trade bait. (Barnes? Hembree?)
  11. Is THAT what you got out of the post?
  12. So they're both basically the same hitter...
  13. Ju Moustakas' has only once had negative marks defensively, and that was one year after knee surgery. His power output, per Rotographs, has been a very real progression. His downside is he doesn't walk much. I like Moustakas but I doubt the Sox sign him.
  14. Ok but no Sox fans should have any reason to discuss Cain
  15. So do I. Also Hosmer and Moustakas...
  16. Are the Sox trying to rebuild?
  17. I bet not...
  18. Why? Most of the complaints about stuff he says are complete misquotes or people in denial. I think the Sox will do their due diligence on Stanton. But ultimately Stanton will end up a Dodgers...
  19. Its a contest. MLBTR is hoping to be correct on one of them...
  20. Especially since we only need a stopgap 2b..
  21. I'd put him behind Betts, although that could depend on Moore's next deal. Drew Pomeranz is another candidate whose value going forward could surprise...
  22. That team will take anybody. ..
  23. The big issue with Hosmer is that the "safe money" might be 7 years $154mill. Is that 3 fWAR money?
  24. Moustakas is a tough call for me. I'd prefer Santana. Although that deal lacks the crippling potential of JD Martinez, but at least Martinez gives RHH power and is less likely to spend all 5 years hitting in to a shift. Pass on Cobb. Really good pitcher. Really bad health. Love Shaw. And Dombrowski does go get a new set up guy every year. But if we get him, does it jinx his "Never been on the DL" track record? Pass on Dyson. Keep the outfield intact. Dyson is just a cheaper version of Rusney Castillo with more steals.
  25. If those are the prices, we should get Santana. And it isn't even a close choice. Morrison is a joke at that pricetag. The guy just spent 7 years as a league average hitter. Any guesses what he will be for the next three? And to make it even worse, for $3mill more you can have Santana? Avoid Option Year Heroes at all costs.
