The post he responded to actually disagreed with the accusation that DD had no plan. But the reality is, the Sox might end up $40million over the Luxury Tax limit and, if things break wrong, might miss the post - season in the process. And it would be stupid to do so because DD refused to get any depth. And blaming Cherington doesn't change the budget or the need for depth. ..

Holder's defense isn't s*****. He doesn't deserve those Gold Gloves but he csn play the position to the level of an average first baseman. That undoubtedly adds to his fWAR projection, and since Martinez is expected to DH most of the time, he's probably getting zero love from the glove. ..

Those have been bad deals so far. Sandoval is a lost cause, but Hanley at least has a final chance to redeem himself. But more important - both deals are here and on the books. Pointing fingers at Cherington doesn't increase Dombrowski's budget. ..

Ben's been gone for 2 1/2 years. Dombrowski has had plenty of time to get pitchers, unless you think the minors is the only possible source. (Even then, Must of the guys in the upper minors on the 40-man roster were drafted by Ben. Johnson, Maddox, Buttery, Martin, Haley)

With that name, he should be a starring Siempre El Domingo. Or whoever stars on that show should change their name to Damein Magnifico Or better yet- that is the name that should have been given to Mandy Patinkin's (most clunky, awkward name ever, BTW) characheter in The Princess Bride. "My name... is Damien Magnifico. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"

Line Bronson Arroyo was? That's too much to ask, but it does happen. I just want someone to avoid duplicating the awful Steve Ontiveros situation of 2000. That's the kind of thing every team should learn from and make sure it never happens again...

Sure he knows the AAA options better than me as well. But those guys aren't immune to injury either.

Remember the 2000 season? Duquette didn't sign any depth guys and the Sox wound up having key September games started by Steve Ontiveros, who hadn't pitched in the majors in five years. Do are you advocating for that or four trying to prepare for actual injuries by signing actual major league arms?

The Sox have 2 starters already injured. They have one more having elbow issues and another coming off a season that was marred by elbow issues. So far the Sox have added the following starting pitchers to the organization this off-season: Now certainly Dombrowski knows much more about the physical status of all 4 pitchers (and probably all available free agent ones, too) than I do. But right now I do see starter health as a big potential issue, and one that has gone completely unaddressed. And it is starting to look like how Dombrowski handled season after season of ineffective bullpen in Detroit...

If you're looking at an NBA player for an MLB team, hitting shouldn't even come up. Even the most athletic players have very large strike Zones they would struggle to protect. I'd think teams would be better off getting someone like Tyson Chandler or Alex Len who could generate significant moment with longer arms and get some serious velocity on a fastball, not to mention would have a huge stride cutting their release point down to maybe 50 feet from home plate. Amir Garrett of the Reds isn't as tall but basically does the same thing. As the most common physical attribute associated with basketball players is height, that is where you should look for the advantage. I would think very few NBA players can hit MLB pitching, And the ones who actually can are probably not the big name basketball superstars you think of. ..
