I don't think Pittsburgh is the best place for him to get a shot. If you really want him to get a shot, hope Pittsburgh releases him and he ends up on the White Sox, where the outfielders aren't as good and the best minor league depth is years away. He might be able to step in today and platoon with Nicky Delmonico. And since the White Sox have a couple high profile prospects in Eloy Jimenez and Blake Rutherford who are both a year or two (or three) away, they're not as likely to bring anyone significant into the mix on any long term deal ...

Please stop. Just so this idiocy. The entire point was that if Sox signed both Nunez and Martinez, they would Need to unload two players from the 40-man roster. They signed both and two players went. I don't consider it great insight on my part to recognize that a 29yo career minor leaguer is a DFA candidate. I'm not sure you insisted his power numbers shouldn't make him one and that his age, history and lack of options was important. But clearly they were factors. Not my fault. I didn't designate him. Cheer for Brentz all you want. ( No love for Ben Taylor?) But if you really wanted him to get a shot, you didn't want him in Pittsburgh. You wanted him on the White Sox, Tigers, or Marlins...

I don't hate Him. I just don't think he's much of a baseball player. And for a baseball player he isn't young anymore. You do realize he isn't going to start for Pittsburgh and might not even make the team out of spring training, which would make him a free agent. Looking at outfielders, Pitt was one of the worst potential landing spots for him along small market teams. Chicago (AL), Detroit or Miami might have been a better all for him. ...

If Tampa couldn't find a taker for $6mill All Star Corey Dickerson, I don't think the market for Brentz is going to be so robust we can get a capable pitcher for him...

A DFA fOr Holt saves the most cash as his arbitration salary is not guaranteed yet. Hanley could go and that prevents his option from kicking in, but seriously depletes their depth. Batting significant injuries, it's almost impossible for all of Marrero, Brentz and Swihart to make the team anyway

The Sox can save $2mill if they DFA Holt, which might happen because they need to clear a spot on the 40-man. They could trade Bradley, but will any pitcher they get back make less than $6mill?

So it's time again to play our least favorite game - who gets DFAd? Last time it was the unforeseen Ben Taylor. Toady's candidates include, but are not limited to, Bryce Brentz, Deven Marrero, Brock Holt, Blake Swihart, Brian Johnson, and Roenis Elias. Any others? Holt and Elias have options. My guess is Bryce Brentz. But who knows?

Cody Brannon is 19 and has only played rookie ball. He's more than one year away, assuming he ever makes it at all...

With Martinez on board, that leaves 3 bench spots to Ramirez, Swihart, Marrero, Brentz and Holt. I'm assuming only an injury gets Hernandez on the roster. And from that set, only Holt can be demoted. So unless.a trade is made, it does look like bad news for Brentz. And possibly for Marrero as well, since we all know Holt isn't getting demoted. Now if Hanley gets DFAd....

Dickerson would be a good acquisition. The Sox have a chance to work out a deal before he hits waivers in a few days. Once he does, forget about him. harmony proposed Johnson/Brentz for Dickerson. I suppose it's possible, but also a beatable offer...

All pretty close. But the WAPM is historically the most accurate.

The WAPM has spoken! A better season, albeit not a freakish breakout. .276/.357/.447 (.804 OPS) with 18 HRs for Bogaerts. (Worth pointing out the WAPM does better for mid season hot streaks.) Steamer is projecting .290/.353/.445 with 16HRs. I don't like it when I'm that close to Steamer...

This puts Holt at risk for DFA as well. Although his option might give him a slight advantage over Marrero and Brentz. ..

Since Holt is still in arbitration, can't he be released at some point this spring with the Sox only paying 30 days worth of salary, much like the Rays did with Dickerson?
