Betts’ rise in BABIP wasn’t just due to luck and regression is imminent; Betts hit substantially more line drives and had a much higher percentage of hard hit balls than he did in 2017. Typically players who outperform their expected BABIP are not “absolute monsters physically” but rather fast runners with quick first steps who maximize getting hits out of ground balls. No player in MLB consistently outperforms his expected BABIP better than Austin Jackson, who is definitely not an “absolute monster physically”. ( He’s not even all that ugly.) My suspicion is Judge might be more prone to regressing on BABIP than Betts. His BABIP his last few seasons in the minors was hardly anything dazzling, and that he “always” has high BABIP might stem more from the fact that it’s only been two seasons. He’s not Shin Soo Choo yet...&

And the question becomes - does resetting make sense? If the Sox cut payroll under $206mill and it impacts the product on the field to the point where Henry makes less revenue, then he may very well forego any reset...

Loria was one of the worst owners ever. Why did he keep buying teams when it was evident to everyone he cared nothing about baseball? Was he just buying teams to pocket revenue sharing money? MLB needs to make sure he never owns another team again...

He injured his left shoulder in a dirt bike accident. While it was off field - and off road as well, it was still the shoulder attached to his throwing arm. Last year he injured his left hand on a line drive hit back through the box. While not likely to recur, both of these two injuries might impact how he throws in the future...6

He’s a worthwhile gamble because he can be released in spring training and cost the Yankees nothing more than airfare to Florida and a few nights hotel stay. And if all their infielders get thru Spring Training without injury, I will be VERY surprised if he is still on that team on opening day...

I Soxprospects.com ranks him number one, but Baseball America has Dalbec as the Sox top prospect. Fangraphs has Casas as the top prospect, but is essentially tied with Chavis and Hernandez with a 45 for future value. That’s a decent FV score overall, but it does mean the system is weak if no one has an FV score above 45. Chavis can be traded and probably will be. And when it comes to bolstering the bullpen, either he or Dalbec should be...
