  1. It’s like that old George Will quote. “ The beauty of being a pessimist is you are constantly either proven correct or pleasantly surprised.”
  2. I do? I found no fault with the umpire and every fault with Price. You can’t argue he got squeezed when he grooved an 0-2 pitch. And his walks to Gardner and Torres were simply bad pitching. Hopefully he gets another chance against Cleveland or Houston and gets better...
  3. While his W-L record says otherwise, Porcello did pitch very well against the Yankees this year in 4 starts...
  4. Huh? That home plate umpire last night was about as good as it gets. The only calls he “missed” per the K Zone were about as marginal as it gets. And when you remember his job entails trying to determine if a 95 mph pitch passed even partially through an imaginary box that’s maybe 7 or 8 cubic feet in volume and do so in a mere second or two, I’d say his performance last night was outstanding. Price got “screwed over” because he threw an 0-2 pitch right down the middle to Judge and because he foolishly walked the 8 and 9 hitters back to back...
  5. Anyone still wish Kelly was off the postseason roster?
  6. I’ll take it. They don’t have to all be strikeouts...
  7. It’s easy to forget it’s only the second inning and the Sox have plenty of time to score. But it’s hard to forget the Yankee bullpen can end this game in the sixth...
  8. That might solve two problems...
  9. Can Price be traded? I’m thinking Jayson Heyward or Miguel Cabrera or some other “untradable” contract...
  10. Hated the Price signing when they made it. Hate it now...
  11. If he was healthy, there are always innings available...
  12. Is it possible we might also be able to say that about 2018?
  13. Well, one month and seven innings anyway...
  14. Get thru the 7th and 8th. Then Kimbrel...
  15. Very disappointed with Workman - 1 strike in his first 8 pitches. But he got out of it..,
  16. Even with a record-setting team, do you see Trader Dave being so complacent as to grab ancillary pieces and only use the free agent market? This is a guy who went all in for Sale just one year after giving David Price one of the biggest contracts in history, and did so before Price's elbow issues. He'll spend, but he won't keep the status quo elsewhere. And he probably shouldn't. The 2014 Red Sox defended their title by basically standing still and quickly became a last place team...
  17. If you’re that worried about Sale, why do you think he should be starting at all?
  18. If Sale continues to pitch like he did in September, the Sox aren’t going very far anyway. Cora will probably not make any radical changes to what has gotten him the best record in MLB, except typical postseason stuff like going to the bullpen earlier than usual. And we just have to hope Sale was just cruising in the last month to test his shoulder and not really going all out. If that was his best, this may not be a good series for Boston. But if he was holding back, and there are certainly reasons he should have been, than he is the one pitcher on this staff the Sox don’t need to cushion with some entirely new strategy...
  19. Given that the Sox don't need another OF, any deal for Yelich would have likely started with one of the current ones. Would you have dealt Benintendi for Yelich?
  20. If they did, the Yankees are morons. I like Stanton, but he is a one dimensional player among the highest paid in the game early into a long term deal...
  21. I would say it is possible. DD tried to move him out there before, although it didn't go so well physically. Itg's not my top choice either. But I would say Swihart does appear to be athletic enough to handle a new role and his skillset might even play into being an everyday OF. I think there was a reason DD tried to move him to the OF before...
  22. Defintely true. He turned down at least two trades we know of, and neither was an insulting offer. OTOH, he is rapidly running out of trade chips. The farm had no real breakout candidates this year that became a good one, and he is going to have to remove some salary while adding salary. JBJ, given his years of control, salary, and prety much a whol bunch of other factors - like him being a desirable player to acquire - does make him one of the better tade baits on the team if DD wants to get a missing key piece back...
  23. I think he’ll trade JBJ. Not sure who becomes the other outfielder or DH if it’s Martinez. Not like DD is a Castillo fan. Although he clearly is a Swihart fan, so that might be on the table, believe it or not. A Beni- Betts-Swihart outfield? Hmm...
  24. While I wouldn’t re-sign Kimbrel, I think Dombrowski will. For whatever it takes. Pedroia is the 2B next year. Nunez is back as well. So is Holt. I doubt the Sox add anyone unless they think Pedroia isn’t going to make it. 3B is Devers. No one is or should be giving up on him yet. DD probably deals away Chavis or Dalbec or both in order to bolster this team someplace, possibly the rotation. The Sox are more likely to subtract at catcher than add. But if they do add, Yasmani Grandal might be their sole venture into free agency. A defensively talented catcher who is among the game’s best sluggers at the position...
  25. The new villain in the latest Star Wars movies is named Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver...
